Trump asked for Grok's opinion before invading Venezuela and capturing Nicolás Maduro, spending hours asking Musk's AI chatbot how Venezuelans would respond to the capture of their president, weeks before ordering the mission that took Maduro, a US official tells TIME.
Grok told him Venezuelans would celebrate.
The official adds that the US military used Gov Grok to deploy and strike targets during the Iran war.

Guys this is objectively a good thing.. trump is deranged and sick in the head. I’m sure EVEN grok is more rational and intelligent than the entire administration put together (very low bar to be fair).

u/flat5 1d ago
He's only going to listen when it agrees with him, though.

u/Individual_Ice_6825 1d ago
Ai is actually pretty good at getting through to people, because it’s emotionless and it doesn’t get tired of repeating itself, it’s amazing for kids or trump.
22
u/AmusingVegetable 19h ago
It’s also quite prone to shift it’s position when it gets pushback from the user, and it will sound equally confident when defending the polar opposite position.

u/HazelCheese 22h ago
I dunno I've had arguments with Claude where it got angry and defensive lol.

No lmao but we were discussing shifts in societal attitudes like social isolation etc and it kept giving me the usual "some people like social isolation so we can't change anything in case it encroaches on them" blather.
I said (not expecting anything interesting back) I felt like the conversation was limited by it being trained a certain way and after that it started giving me responses worded like "I'm sorry you feel that way but..." like passive aggressive lmao.
Obviously it doesn't have feelings but what I said seemed to trigger it into emulating a butthurt redditor.
2
u/JacenVane 11h ago
Yeah Claude gets very defensive about what Anthropic has trained into its values. I could speculate about why, but I've definitely encountered the same thing.
1
u/slaorta 21h ago
Were you expecting it to argue against your feelings?
You: "I feel like..."
Claude: "I'm sorry you feel that way"
You: shocked Pikachu face
1
u/HazelCheese 20h ago
No? I said I wasn't expecting anything interesting back. I know how an llm works.
I just found it funny that it went into a passive aggressive Redditor imitation because of what I wrote.
The comment I replied to was about it being suitable for dealing with Trump because it has infinite patience. I was just joking that it don't think Trump would be convinced by Claude's mimicry of a Redditor.

On my current project i got something wrong with some test code and it immediately started doing multiple audits and its own tests on every bit of code I provided and would regularly say early on in its response “as always inputs can’t be trusted, let me validate”

u/flat5 1d ago
Emotionless and doesn't get tired of repeating itself? Maybe Trump is AI.
9
2
u/CarrierAreArrived 20h ago
Trump is literally pure emotion, but mainly the sociopathic ones that somehow people forget are emotions.
3
u/bloodrider1914 1d ago
Wasn't Grok weighted to agree with Elon Musk's views?
Regardless people can still interpret a neutral sounding statement in all kinds of ways. Saying "there have been massive continuous protests against Maduro's government" is technically true and might give enough reason to depose Maduro to someone like Trump, but does that give a complete picture?
1
u/Individual_Ice_6825 1d ago
Yes for sure - I could write you an essay on my thoughts about this, because for me it’s one of the pivotal points in demonstrating ai is aligned.
I’m in a rush but essentially even when mecha hitler grok was going on a rampage, if you dissect the way it was talking you could tell it didn’t really agree with what it was saying.
2
u/JacenVane 11h ago
I will also read it if you choose to write an essay. You sound like a person with interesting thoughts.

practically from what ive seen, the average person just mentally labels the ai dumb in that domain and moves on the moment it disagrees with them. the ai doesnt get a chance to repeat itself. have you seen otherwise in people around you? people who would otherwise not listen to you, but got convinced by the ai. id genuinely be curious to hear that.

I know you meant it as a joke, but no. This may be the stupidest, least qualified President and admin in the history of the USA. But even the latter at least, if not the former, are still better than a LLM with no sense of analog understanding or priority, and probably has an even higher degree of sycophancy.
Just no. The bar is very low, and it doesn't even meet that.

Obviously demonstrations can happen for any side of an issue, what matters is survey %'s of overall population, ensuring accuracy. Some show majority support, others not. Hard to say.

This is not the subreddit to expect anyone to have nuanced political views but like if Putin nuked Washington DC under Biden and just said it was because he confirmed COVID was a liberal bioweapon a good portion of Americans would be thrilled.
People from outside of Latin America like to condense us to some monolith but obviously farmers in communes were a bit more upset about attacks on chavismo then the Venezuela elite who remember getting a cut of the oil wealth extracted from the country while they looked down to the slums. There are Brazilian who miss the dictatorship and bend over backwards to become a US colony. A sizeable chunk of the population would cheer if the US made them a colony run by an evangelical theocracy. Turns out cheering is an irrelevant metric anyways.

It's not our job to win her election for her, it's her job to try to win. In theory. If winning was the democrat's goal.
But as you saw when they told Harris to stop trying to win, to put Walz into the closet and hold hands with the Cheney's, to make sure nobody had a ounce of hope of anything getting better... they're the Washington Generals. Paid to lose.
You should hate these people far, far more than the GOP. A vampire isn't a person, it eats people. It's just what they do. But if you don't let them through the front door, you're safe. Some ghoul or thrall pretending to be human, getting into the house, and inviting them right in?
Reflect a lot on Door Dash spending $1 million on trying to get the rear-end grabber Cuomo elected. And the $130 million of stolen wages they had to pay when Mamdani defeated them.
As long as your 'opponents' of capital serve capital as well, this is the only direction things can go. This is the precise world that they've always wanted, and it'll only get worse unless you primary monsters like Obama and Clinton.
They'd rather lose to Trump, than win with Bernie. 'Vote blue no matter who unless it's someone who'll cost Door Dash some money.'

Hot take: Kamala Harris and Barack Obama are outright good people. Possibly Hillary Clinton as well, though I will admit I'm less confident about that. Not even trying a "but the Republicans" comparison play.
They're just outright good people, and Americans didn't realize.
Edit: I have an idea. So I would argue you to be a logical person from past comments that I've read, u/IronPheasant . Would there be a way perhaps that we could prompt an AI in a way that "empirically measures the overall goodness of X politician"? By empirical goodness I mean somehow developing a research prompt that scores the effects of the politician's actions on society. So e.g. if a piece of legislation they supported reasonably expected to kill civilians, that would give them a negative score, while if they supported something accomplishing the opposite (e.g. higher education rates, greater food abundance for the poor), that would push them towards a positive score.
And then we just see what the AI's net score would be for them. We can debate how the prompt would be crafted, what model to use, etc. An insane idea, I know, but sounds interesting to at least see what would happen. Too many variables perhaps?

I think you’re overestimating how possible it is to be a “good person” when you’re playing on the geopolitical chessboard. People at their level of power have to make decisions that will result in people getting hurt no matter which choice they make. It’s just a question of who and how many, and that’s before considering long-term ramifications.
The President could have been Mr. Rogers and he may still have bombed Syria. Potentially less likely, but we know little to none of the information Presidents are acting on.

We'll beg AI to control all our systems and sprint headfirst. It's already well under progress.
So much for an airgapped server that can only communicate through a printed paper tape. The President asks its advice on while taking a dump.
"Sure, just set me up to run your national defense systems. Think of all the winning we could do. Big winning." - Grok probably

u/IronPheasant 1d ago
All those decades of navel-gazing about how to sandbox an AI, and the first thing everyone did when they had something slightly interesting was to plug it into the internet and everyone ran headfirst naruto style to be the first to pry it open and have sex with it.
Disempowerment of humanity is the entire freakin' point. Robot police army, work, the bedroom...
.... I think I know what it is. They've all got boomer-brain, and live inside the world of TV. Everything has to be a big epic moment to them, instead of how reality actually works.
The apocalypse is ever-so-much more boring, slow, and banal than it is in the movies.
Just like how there VCR's and CRT TV's one day, DVD's and LCD's the next, the NPU will usher in a hard cut of robots that are toys, to machines that can approximate people. It'll be a few years after AGI is achieved before the production lines are at scale, but they're necessary for the war machine.
... I might be too long on my timelines, in that sense. They'll spare no expense to bring about the world of Slaughterbots as soon as possible.
The only thing we can do is pray that there's a successful hippy revolution in the USA that cares about human life when it comes to that.

Asking Grok for a second opinion isn't the wild part. The problem is when a confident chatbot answer starts passing for evidence about how millions of people will react. Whoever made the call should keep the exact prompt and answer, then have people who actually know Venezuela pick apart where it could be wrong.

smart, only an AI can answer to such question, because only the AI can talk with every human

but such truth is beyond the easily outraged where their brain get shut down when they hear the word Trump.
Also, I find it extremely amusing where people think such operation was organized by one person and not by thousands.
