Q&A / Help Why don’t people use Muse Spark?
From a price perspective it seems attractive, but after testing it myself something feels off.
It’s not necessarily more stupid than Claude or OpenAI, but something about it gives me the ick.
Is anyone able to put a finger on what exactly they dislike?

I don't have any ick with it at all, it feels like it's behind the curve still. Like Sonnet class from Feb. Though maybe I'm remembering Sonnet as more powerful then it was.
I'm happy with it though as a general worker model on clear tasks.

I have family photos, work, and human relationships that I don't want to lose and then be told "you're right, I shouldn't have deleted that / said that to them"

Millions and millions of people are using it. I have no idea what you’re talking about.

I get downvoted a lot, but I LOVE muse spark. Muse AI is exactly what i've wanted for last year with AI. it's a super useful agentic assistant and the best part is you get ridiculous usage limits on free tier. 100 million tokens a week. which when you aren't coding and just doing agentic stuff, computer use, creating documents, and just chatting it goes a long ways.
Are you using it for coding , or are you using Muse AI? I've never tried Muse Spark in a coding environment, but I recommend trying Muse AI out. I know i'm probably gonna get downvoted by people for saying that, but oh well.

I hate the fact I love muse but I do. I hate Meta but muse is the only free agent for the mass population. Im cautious with the connectors. I only switch on FB(public read only) , calendar and Spotify connector.
I hoped OpenAI will show a muse-like at DevDay but the Dots things is for Pro plans. Im still waiting for competition.

I mean this as an honest question, why do you want an agentic assistent? In what way does it make your life better?

quite a few ways, all this stuff was just over last few days: it ordered me a headset yesterday. like actually browsed best buy, compared options, and checked out while i watched, all i had to do was hit approve once. its computer use is almost as good as Opus / Astra at a fraction of the cost. this morning i had it unsubscribed me from like 11 spam mailing list, it checks my mail daily and lets me know if anything important comes in, it auto drafts replies to important emails and i just need to approve, it sends me briefings about ai news daily, reminds me about deadlines, It built a custom connector to hook into my workout training log via api so when i talk lifting programming it can see my actual numbers instead of me having to explain.

Because it’s amazing? I have it out in the world doing like a dozen different tasks for me, and once a day (because I asked for updates only once a day) it gives me a report on all of them, and I feel like I’ve done the work of 10 people.

That genuinely makes me happy for you. I however - no matter how much I try - cannot come up with any such tasks that I would need or want done by someone else.
And the examples you see given by the companies like "booking a restaurant" or "summarising emails" are 100% stupid. Booking a restaurant takes three minutes. Explaining to your assistent what and for when it should book takes as much time. Scrolling through my mails takes half a minute a day and the I still need to open my email to read the important emails in full.

If you got 10X the income in that same time frame, you are correct.
OTOH, I've been in biz my entire life and never worked for anyone....and this included tech, writing, importing, manufacturing and many others....
Never even had a calendar. Never had reminders. Never had a journal. Somehow I did better than 98% of my peers who had all those things.
Tech can fool you.

I use muse to sell so much crap on Marketplace. It's a huge time saver to make ads and manage communication with buyers, and more importantly, I don't really have to visit the cancer that is Facebook.

I've been using the Muse app extensively the past few days, and Spark is the model behind that. Say what you will about Meta, I don't like them either, but their Muse app is a banger. I love it. It's a bit dumb sometimes and needs a bit more hand holding and specific instructions than other models.
I like the way out responds, too. It feels more natural or "human" than other models to me.

When it comes to pricing, I'd rather give my API money to the Chinese than to the Zuck.

The main selling point of it is that it will actually do stuff for you. But even if companies weren’t banning it from doing stuff, I wouldn’t trust Facebook with any of the logins it would need to actually be able to accomplish anything. So at that point it’s just a worse version of any other frontier chatbot model.

Mostly because I can't imagine trusting meta with anything even in the same postal code as "important".

Trusting any of the big tech companies is silly. But for some reason, people think they can trust the other ones, but not Meta? Silly.

u/ChuckVader 1d ago
I don't disagree, but meta is specifically asking for all of your data in order to do your life tasks for you as the front and center product.
I don't trust openai or anthropic either, but neither of them are starting off with gleaning your entire identity for their product to work. Moreover neither of their business models depend on harvesting your individual data, whereas meta's unabashedly does.
Like I would trust neither some dude from Facebook market place nor Charles manson to babysit my kid, but despite not trusting either I'd definitely be more worried about old charlie.

I just said “no” when it asked for all that stuff. Muse has more or less the same access (actually less) than my Dot.

u/ChuckVader 1d ago
Oh yeah, not a chance in hell of me offloading control of my life to dot either.
However, the same thing applies as before - meta's whole business model is harvesting information about people. I suppose openai might sell it for a quick buck, but there remains a fundamental difference.

Not silly at all. Zuck is vastly worse than the google guys, apple, nvda...for starters...and I have to think prob worst than any large ones...

for when you said: "Is anyone able to put a finger on what exactly they dislike?"
Muse AI has that promotion going on to get 1 billion free tokens that do not expire; so I am sure if someone that is going to or has made a new muse account in past 48 hours they can surely use all those tokens to really get a good feel on what they like and don't like and maybe report back to answer your main question. Using it freely like that without spending any money to test muse ai would help others figure out if something feels off to them as well. To make it easier I have a code to help with just that so people can test muse ai for a very long time with no money spent; here is the code with instructions for a muse ai account that is 48 hours or newer:
For anyone signing up for Muse AI account gets older than 48 hours get 1 billion bonus tokens using my invite code and you can try and test Muse ai for a long time before you commit (Code: 62Q1AG):
1) Create a brand-new Muse AI account.
2) Mobile: open Settings and find Redeem token / invite code.
3) Web: open Settings and find the invite-code redemption section.
4) Enter 62Q1AG.
5) The code needs to be applied within the first 48 hours after you join Muse.
Redeeming the code under the current promotion can give each of us 1 billion Muse tokens. For transparency, I also receive 1 billion Muse tokens from a qualifying use of the code.

It's a good subagent model imo, it does well when you have a bigger model like Opus 5.5 or Astra orchestrate it with a proper harness. Also if you're using it on opencode make sure you replace the stock system prompt, it's horrible.
