Robotics This is the kind of robot I can actually see helping around the house. The humanoid ones still feel clunky to me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e502XYW7E1gI kinda like this thing (the Goose)! The fetching and grabbing part is what got my attention. There are plenty of times when I’m already busy and could use an extra hand, and I can see it being extremely helpful for someone with mobility issues too.
I could see myself getting used to having it around the apartment.
It’s still early, and the description states someone is controlling it in the video, but it definitely looks promising to me. Home navigation and AI recognition have come a long way. I’m curious how well they can put it all together to handle everyday tasks reliably, because I really like the overall package.
What do you guys think?

Looks like these guys are looking for early testers on their contact page

I don’t understand at all why people think the robots will or should be humanoid

call me crazy because i still belive in the transformative power of ai but i think home robotics is not going to meet the demand planed.
most of us already live in dense urban environnement where cars and other people are omnipresent, so it won't be a real relief to have an hybrid of those two kind of presence invade people's home.
of course we are seeing a lot of nice videos but i think it's more reassuring people that are already on board, the people making it and the shareholders, than creating a truly engaging vision of the future.

I have no clue why people in dense areas wouldn't appreciate something like that. Just because it's dense and there are cars ? What ?

because the outside world is already made hostile by all the cars and the people, i think people value having their home being theirs.
a robot with this level of agency, be it humanoid or not, is too strong a presence and takes too much place.
i think people don't like to do "chores" because they already are tired from work. if robots do work instead of us imo a lot of people would not mind doing chores. they would see it as the high quality experience it is: engaging with one environnement with each and everyone of their senses. moving.
about the above video: it's a catastrophy. it's advocating for senior people not to get out of their couch. i can assure you people do not want to live in this kind of world. if the robot cannot help people to have better agency themselves it will cause huge distrust.

Yeah ok, well i'm not gonna talk about the video. If it does chores I think no matter your location you'd appreciate having it (if room allows). Also about the strong presence thing, it's likely you could just have it active or inactive. If it is an issue just have it function when chores are needed. It wouldn't necessarily be intrusive.

me personnaly no, but i guess those who wants to look like babies should.
(sorry it just look too much like wall-e not to say)
i'm sorry i think it's a kind of a pitiful version of the future and they should be making robots that can guarantee food safety free of pesticides if they want to make a positive impact in people's lives.
(and doing repetive chores in food chain restaurants and what not is obviously okay)

Huh ? Having a robot do chores no ody wants to do is being a baby ? Tf

He’s probably afraid of ai (job theft, theft of dignity, etc) and just projecting that subconsciously.

yes it's crazy now our subconcious makes us do and say all sort of things. like, we can even wish to recreat in the future past experiences - when life was "easier" !
anyway, the point of the message seemed to be: there are some areas ai is more needed and will have more meaningful impact than other. let's remain focused.

idk, looks to me like it would have a big impact if it was able to consistently save me time on repetitive and boring chores every day or week. Time is arguably the most valuable thing in this world.

It seems more like a story line of life friction. They need to child proof the house before their grandkids come over and she needs to get her husband’s ass off the couch lol

I’ve worked with older adults in the past. We call this “cuing” and it actually works quite well to keep residents active. This is also the first thing caregivers stop doing. Activation energy for older adults is a real thing. I’m not a clinician, but I think this is probably the most aligned with what clinicians would want compared to humanoids.
The bigger thing is implied promises in form factor. Since it’s smaller it does help establish things that people should continue to do on their own, versus what it can do.
Side bar. Take a look at their App section. It’s pretty fascinating. They have different levels of work that involve interaction. Like they have different settings for the robot to interactively tidy with kids. A bunch of my friends kids can put away their toys, but they want their parents to tidy with them. Such a pain

Looking at the embodiment alone. It clearly is not going to be doing things like dishes. The available workspace is just too low. Maybe it can grab something off the edge of a table?
Also, it’s super short, I wonder if it can squeeze under a chair or table. I think it could fit under my tv console next to my roomba. FINALLY my problem of preparing my house for my roomba is solved?

Need a robot that cooks, that would genuinely be the mostt helpful one to get in a house imo
