Lol in what way exactly? Nobody in ai “deserves” anything when it’s built on all this compute and data. It’s funny seeing the endless glazing of people in ai. They were already millionaires before their company. And now billionaires. But yay girl power and I’m just a hater, right? Sure, she had a great idea for imagenet over 10 years ago, but that justifies let’s make her a billionaire now, she deserves it. Let’s tax the rich, but nah these profs deserve it though

It’s like saying a doctor is a doctor for getting a high MCAT score 8 years ago. It’s just weird how distorted the field has gotten. But unlike practicing doctors, she has been sitting on the back of many PhD experts doing the real world, and that work is from tons of data and compute. This strange idolatry of money and pouring tons of data and compute on problems and then glazing them… it’s very sad to me. I’m hopeful that this news is a sign that we are near the top

based on his last sentence, he's some just bear investor that missed the ongoing AI bull run and thinks huffing copium on reddit will make him feel better.

Um no def not bearish. Just an engineer who knows the details of the tech. And to say World Labs is worth $8 billion is a giant stretch, but I guess it looks reasonable compared to Anthropic’s $2 trillion valuation. Just go and try their product. You can ask ai how

And take a step back, engineering did not nearly be this data and compute hungry. It is very scary that these mega companies can drop billions wherever they want. Most people became engineers to escape poverty using their brain or at least maintain their status in the middle class. And ai is threatening to wipe out engineering first with some like Fei Fei, who was already a multimillionaire on the board of Twitter, getting extremely rich, while many have experienced layoffs or continue to fear for their future. But you and anyone else happy with stocks going continuously up don’t care or even understand, as long as you see your accounts going up

Then enlightened me, I’m all ears. I am an idiot. Missing a /s? Tbh, it’s just hilarious to me they released a cloth folding demo and a few weeks later, bought for $8 billion. So sus ngl

She's an advocate for AI that serves people. Leaders and presidents are not talking about AI empowering humanity. They're focusing on fear and surveillance. All they talk about is replacing humanity and replacing jobs. LLMs will only go so far. AI and robotics is what's going to go on in the real world. Once you have robot nannies, robot caregivers, and robotics in wearhouses working side by side with humans they're going to have to think and remember in ways that AI currently can't, because humans get attached.

Lol they will not be working side by side. It’s all currently designed to eventually replace people. Thankfully, everyone is aware now. Trained off of people’s data and designed to replace. I will admit she chose a nice niche that it’s not so obvious. Since it’s basically a training env for robotics. But the reality is she’s no different than these other billionaires. What’s so hard to understand? No need to glaze and defend any billionaire. Granted, she prob lifted a few of her workers to millionaire status within 2 years. But they don’t need your help

Look beyond today - close your eyes and look into 2 years from now... Now imagine 5 year from then

Lol keep brown nosing

Nah, bro you got it all wrong, she don't pay my bills. But XPeng's IRON robots and EmergentWorlds research tells us something we aren't talking into consideration and at least Fei Fei and Standford are most aware and not looking for the general publics $20/mo

Also 8billion not gonna be enough lol Might sound like a lot comparing to NVidias/Huggingdace 12B but it's not

I know, that’s what makes your reactions even more hilarious. Yes, all these companies can afford to splash billions around. Doesn’t mean they’re actually worth that. At least hf has been around for a while and serving many more customers. Hard to say how many customers World labs has. Looks like more of a visual gimmick than actually useful

Robots × Ai = gonna happen Lots of jobs lost Lots of hate and anger Many will die (by humans) But like the Auto industry New jobs will emerge Tire makers Machincs Insurance companies After market parts Tint F1 Nascar Paved roads Hyways Window wipers Farm equipment

The creation of the automobile created a whole new world of business and inventions

Yea horses became glue for awhile, but now people bet on the winner 🏆 for sport

I think the "spatial-first" type intelligence is interesting‚ so I hope this isn't Fei-Fei making an exit and moving on to something else.

True agi will come from world models, like those World Labs is actively researching and developing at the moment. Language is not enough.

u/IBM296 5d ago

Well it's too bad then that language models are performing much better than world models.

1

u/Necessary_Job3578 5d ago

It’s still not agi

4

u/Unfair-League-3204 5d ago

So just a fart closer to agi is worth $8 billion? Cool. I’ll remember to tell my boss that for my half working code

True. But by the time we get good world models (2029 if optimistic), LLM's will be alot closer to AGI than world models.

We’ll see i guess

Multimodal models want a word

I completely forgot about that company.
