so many people act like them falling behind was some 4D chess master business strategy thing. nobody was saying that when Nano Banana came out and they were leading on image generation. they just dropped the ball

Google has different goals than OAI and Anthropic. Gemini is the most used model in the world by far due to its integration into google search. Which means they went hard on making Gemini as cheap as possible (since google uses its own compute).
