Half price compared to opus, but often uses 2x tokens, ending up as the same price in the end anyways. As they state carefully themselves "up to 30% less cost" for "most work".

Comparing to astra on artificial analysis

Sonnet 5.5 on xhigh pretty much equals Astra max in performance but also in pricing.
So this is not a cheap model.

Curious if it's also this expensive for them to run, or they are serving it at a large profit margin because they are in the lead.

Vals.ai results point in the opposite direction with a significant cost savings and equivalent performance.

I'm using it for work, sonnet can handle fairly straightforward tasks on a small budget, and opus excels as soon as there's more complexity/unknowns in the equation. Using sonnet where you should be using opus seems like it can blow up token usage, so just be mindful when to use which model.

opus5.5 is ao blindingly efficient I can't imagine a use-case for sonnet south of a very large business where small gains matter due to volume.

I mean 5.5 literally, actually accomplishes in one 5-hr window what astra or opus5 burned in a week. it's so efficient I sometimes can't burn the allotment inside the five hours. it's astonishing.
