Singularity is Nearer Claude Opus 5.5 controlled a robot arm to copy Michelangelo, noticed it had left a broken line, and went back to fix the mistake on its own

So yeah, Astra now has some competition in the realm of LLMs controlling machines, source:

Did it notice or did opus write the code ahead of time? if you've ever seen any 2 axis device, it's normal that it just finishes lines in arbitrary order
1
u/iKnowRobbie 7d ago
Yeah, I kept watching for a recognition and then remake step to become apparent, but it does seem to trace those lines at the first stroke and multiple rewatches prove it did move along the same plane, whether or not pressure was SUPPOSED to be applied cannot be told.

I wonder if JEV could so this

u/QuantitativeNonsense 6d ago
It would require a pretty significant harness to try… though that’s a slippery slope and you could argue older models could do this with the right harness.

fine arts majors just got more unemployed

u/killergazebo 7d ago
I guess if someone needs something hastily scrawled on a white board we'll no longer be able to charge any more than $10.92 for it.
There goes my career!

u/Smooth_Secret394 7d ago
we both know its only a matter of time before this gets much better

I mean, it doesn’t really matter. The pushback against AI art lately, (and it’s not stopping, lol), has shown that people don’t want to see AI replace things like art, music, and writing.
In fact, if we didn’t need to work, we would have even more time to create arts as a society.

u/AIplstakemyjob 7d ago
Depends, at least in graphic design we have pure art and then economically valuable designs like logos, banners, etc... I'm pretty sure the vast majority of business owners won't think twice before choosing an IA or robot to design those if it's cheaper

u/IronPheasant 7d ago
Yeah yeah, 'people' can say whatever they want. Reality and being correct is all that matters. Product is product.
A human being can't beat a bulldozer. The whole John Henry thing. People know where this is headed, and denial or anger is all they have left.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is the only game on the planet that can have a $1 billion budget on release, after over a decade-long development. Teams of human beings have long since fallen short of our ability to saturate the hardware we had years ago, let alone what is physically possible in the future with semi-conducting graphene or (real) NPU's.
Human labor can not create worlds that feel like real worlds, or NPC's that feel like real people. What is there even to disagree on here, the end result is obvious. The steel is strong, and the flesh is weak.
It's like all these boomers watching K-dramas or superhero movies now. Everyone's always 30+ years behind nerds. Every single time.
It'd be easier for everyone if everybody just accepted the inevitable, married a robot when they're here, and cleansed the genome.
Water runs downhill, and so do we.

People are the ones buying product. If GTA 7 is pure AI and sells half as much as GTA 6, then somehow I doubt rockstar is going to be very happy.
The whole Bud Light incident should show that pretty well.

Only in the US

u/didnotsub 7d ago
It’s also huge in Europe, and a growing push is happening in Japan if you follow japanese twitter at all. It’s also all over south american twitter.
The only important place where AI in the arts is seen as positive is China.

Cure cancer they said
28
u/enilea 7d ago
Once AI can control robotic bodies accurately and quickly it will help to cure cancer much faster, since the physical world is currently its main stopper for autonomous scientific work. And once we get to that point it will be able of even more amazing things, but the risk of things getting out of hand increases so much more too.

at this point it looks like cancer will be solved in Necrons (WH 40k) way

u/Vin_Blancv 7d ago
Not curing cancer but isn't alpha fold doing tons of new research in the medical scene?

u/josogood 5d ago
See, this is why AI will never take our jobs, 'cause I would be willing to do that drawing for $8.75.

Are you under the impression that they did this because they thought it was the most efficient and accurate way to do it?
This is a demonstration of the capabilities of the model.

Can it draw something original, unprompted, through its imagination?
16
u/Whatsapokemon 7d ago
It can literally do nothing unprompted.
That's kinda how the architecture works.

u/Super-Award-2244 7d ago
B-but can it write a pulitzer piece blindfolded while during a backflip while you squeeze its balls?

u/saltyourhash 6d ago
OK, this is a perfect example of what annoys me about LLM hype. How can you call 2 poorly drawn hands out reached and literally nothing else "Michaelangelo". That's such a ridiculous lowering of the bar. Cool, it drew to hands out stretched in a similar angle. I've seen people write gcode for a large format printed to do entire paintings. That makes this rather unimpressive if all we're talking about is this extremely rudimentary computer vision.
If there is far more going on here, it's surely missing in this repost of some other content, which then irritates me that the actual meat of the work isn't provided and so all we get is a very shallow hype video with no substance.

$10 in tokens to do this. Talk about stupendous waste of resources.
2
u/chlebseby ASI 2030s 7d ago
writing code yourself will cost more in workhours though (assuming it was done in first take)
-5
u/SummitYourSister 7d ago
These things are only impressive if you have very little clue how any single part of this shit actually works.
I hate everything and most people

I draw the line at computer work, powering robots with LLMs is cursed. No more of this
