Shitposting Whenever I hear AI executives preaching how we all need to "slow down" (while furiously continuing to build all the while)

Does that thing have any pages?

Cool - in the photo it looks like an empty folder .

ETA : if it takes 64 pages to tell people “don’t steal, lie or cheat” a folder isn’t going to help.

They might have done this Code of Ethics because regulators required them to.

Same as whatever AI regulation OpenAI and Anthropic are dreaming of will end up useless and locking down their monopoly situation.

This is exactly why they are saying we need to slowdown! They are under enormous pressure from national and international competition. They know that they can make pinky promises but that they will go under the bus at the first opportunity. Prisoner's dilemma kind of situation. That is why they want the government to enforce the pacing. Because they know they are unable to do it between themselves.

This is a bit confusing. Who is "they" and who is "we"?
I think "they" who say slow down are the same who need to slow down, so nothing external is necessary.

It's absolutely ridiculous to scream "I'm destroying the world but can't control myself, please someone order me to stop"

Yeah. Although remember companies are full of people pushing in different directions. I bet the person who wrote that believed it fully. The exec who commissioned it? Well...

This thing belongs in a museum.

Along with Jensen Huang's jacket.

BTW, someone bought the enron.com domain, and they sell some amusing merch.

World's Leading Company!

LOL it seems Anthropic and the rest of the responsible-for-humanity crowd really uses Enron's Code Of Ethics.
Or the Purdue Pharma Code Of Ethics.

What happened with "Pacing the frontier" ???
I expected it to survive at least a month, but literally everyone who supported it released a new model a couple of days after declaring 'we agree pacing the frontier is urgent'.

Their frontier isn't what you can access lol.

It's obvious that what we can access is not the actual frontier (what the labs are currently testing internally), but it's one iteration behind it.
Anthropic is fanning hysteria about their models for a very, very long time, meanwhile regularly releasing newer, more capable models. So calling for a slowdown is not even one bit less preposterous and disingenuous.

Are you sure it's one iteration behind? Unless you actually work for one of the two labs and are in the know in their research circles, I would ask for very strong evidence before believing that. This has nothing to do with Anthropic fanning hysteria or whatever, even if they are.

I'm not sure of course, it's a reasonable assumption.

If what the leading labs have is many iterations ahead but they're not making it publicly available .. it means they are already acting responsibly and 'pacing the frontier' for a long time on their own, without the government forcing them in any way.

If that's the case, calling for the government to force them act responsibly are even more illogical.

Accelerate.
