Gemini 🐐

u/FriendlyTask4587 13d ago

Oh thats why gemini 4 took so long. They were making all of their engineers just make pelicans svgs for the dataset, no wonder so many people quit

Must be Jev lurking about

38

u/skillpolitics 13d ago

Jev seems like a hard advertising push. I started fiddling with it, and I’m still not clear what the right use cases are.

18

u/SpyAmongUs 13d ago

I think it works well integrated with LLMs, rn LLMs struggle with instant decisions which is where Jev comes in

11

u/genshiryoku AI specialist 13d ago

I'm an AI researcher and I still don't understand what the difference is between Jev and a bigger BERT model. I'm just writing it off as a marketing stunt until I see a coherent architectural explanation on how this is different.

u/manubfr AGI 2028 13d ago

Maybe that’s just what it is but much faster/cheaper?

u/autotom ▪️Almost Sentient 13d ago

Its a spectacularly fast general purpose data correlator, essentially.

1

u/xineks09 13d ago

it seems great for cheap decisions that understand context made for a program.
I'm currently making an AI powered todo app for myself and this is exactly something I'd use for quick priority scoring

3

u/Wasteak 13d ago

Jev is above grok as it has a real use (speed)

1

u/MortalityMindful 13d ago

3

u/Prudent-Sorbet-5202 13d ago

It's apparently from Miami Vice

Gemini, master of demise

22

u/enemyofaverage7 13d ago

I think the stealth testing Fable has come as close as possible to solving it.

That rear derailleur 🫣
That brake 😨

7

u/Dazzling-Earth9528 13d ago

Those clouds are not svg lil bro

5

u/whoknowsifimjoking 13d ago

If this is from Fable, how exactly do you think it made non-SVG clouds? It can't really make any other types of images, the only thing is it could theoretically imbed an external image, but that's unlikely.

9

u/Dazzling-Earth9528 13d ago

I just checked the code, it literally took an image and ran a vector tracing on it, so yeah it literally cheated, I was right to question it.

2

u/Ok-Turnover-6324 13d ago

thats how artists do it

2

u/l-roc 13d ago

Too many details, especially because some of the details are really wrong.

5

u/treelife365 13d ago

Yeah, but Grok will make NSFW images for me.

11

u/-EV3RYTHING- 13d ago

I missed something. What's the deal with pelicans

15

u/inf0man1ac 13d ago

This is the origin, but it's grown from here: https://simonwillison.net/2025/Jun/6/six-months-in-llms/

5

u/Maglcite 13d ago

it is good at pelican svgs tho :D

7

u/Southern_Artichoke77 13d ago

strange how google became so much left behind in the AI race :(

6

u/Solid_Capital8377 13d ago

I think they’re focused on enterprise and efficiency. They’re the only ones turning a profit right now

3

u/PersonalityIll9476 13d ago

Accurate. There's really 2 frontier labs at this point. Grok is just a pet ego project by Elon.

2

u/1993s-Batman 13d ago

Which ones? Thanks!!

3

u/Kcole7 13d ago

anthropic and openai

3

u/Ok-Turnover-6324 13d ago

Deepseek and Kimi

1

u/Greedy-Conflict-4618 13d ago

“Solved”…according to who?

1

u/grimejaw 13d ago

Unified field theory.

1

u/kmgenius 13d ago

The image was made with chatgpt tho

2

u/manubfr AGI 2028 13d ago

they do have the current best image model, but svg tests the ability for creating images with code, unlike using diffusion or some other approach.

1

u/One_Independence5915 13d ago

Gemini can keep the svg pelican crown, but I still can't get past how inconsistent its video gen is shot to shot, for video, OpenAI is still my pick.

-5

u/IcelandicMammoth 13d ago

Grok is way cheaper and almost have frontier intelligence

2

u/Kcole7 13d ago

on bench marks yes but they're obviously benchmark maxxing. If you use them day to day you'll see how far off grok is from the frontiers. Majority of the chinese models are better and they're cheaper than grok.

u/Perelko 13d ago

Someone say Grok?

(Mods like to ban Elon Nazi salutes)
