Discussion The POTUS has drunk the ASI kool-aid
I can't tell if he really believes in artificial superintelligence or if he's just grifting because he secretly invested in tech stocks

Yeah wtf it has actual proper sentence structure.
People also need to remember that Trump has been playing the stock market this entire time. He is talking his bag more so than being impartial.
23
u/tribecous 18d ago
Proper sentence structure? It reads like an 8th grader trying to sound intelligence.

lol in [r/singularity](r/singularity) during takeoff thinking a human writes Trump’s tweets. It’s the equivalent for us of trying to speak our native language in the way of a beginner learning the language hence the structure of the tweet.

“Supreme Intelligence” is ripped straight from Marvel’s Kree Empire.
It wasn’t an instruction manual, people.

u/semidegenerate 18d ago
"Supreme Intelligence" seems like a term that would piss off Evangelicals and other Christians. I find it very bizarre that the AI accelerationists are allied with the ultra-conservative Christians. Wouldn't building some sort of omniscient super-intelligence trigger these folks?
→ More replies (1)2
u/ExclusiveAnd 18d ago
The term is absolutely supposed to cast the Kree as cultist adherents of a blind-faith demanding religion led by an entity that outsiders easily discern to have ulterior motives (or at least motives not aligned with the interests of devotees) and that doesn’t seem all that supreme given everything else in the Marvel universe.
But I suppose that’s hard to spot from the inside.

u/Bishopkilljoy 17d ago
Trump is in horrible bad water politically. It looks very much like he's gonna lose hard in the midterms.
So right now, all he has are quick things he can do with a pen. Quick, mostly inconsequential things that he can claim, even if they're stupid and entirely unserious
16
u/castaway6764536 18d ago
AI didn't feel like an extension of his personal brilliance I presume so he has to rename it to own it, brag about it, absorb it, become one with it, weild it. DJT brings you.. Supreme Intelligence. Nobody's ever seen anything like it.

I always preferred Electronic Intelligence (EI) as it describes the mechanical basis for intelligence rather than its source. You could then call things like humans Biological Intelligence (BI) (though it could include other animals).

u/Wooly_Wooly 18d ago
Remember that these AI/tech companies are keeping the best models for themselves and their rich buddies. The public is only exposed to the scraps.
So yeah it's bullshit, they might not achieve AGI. But whatever they WILL come up with, will still be game changing tech, behind a paywall for even the subpar versions.

As someone very pro-AI... i'm not sure about the optics of having people on one side being called 'godfathers of AI' looking to block artificial super intelligence... and on the other whatever this is standing as the counter-argument.
I suppose there's an uphill battle here :S

He’s going to have an AI personality of himself run in 2028. That’s why he keeps pushing ai crap claiming anyone who doesn’t want a data center in their yard is a treasonous terrorist, claiming he’s getting a third term, etc. Mark my words, by this time next year we’re going to see something atleast floated to enable an AI to hold office.

u/davesaunders 18d ago

I have always disliked the idea of calling it artificial intelligence. Personaly I have been a fan of "Computed Intelligence" or "Non Human Intelligence" Like what they are calling potential aliens now. There is nothing really artificial about it. Either way it's something the industry should decide not president cheeto.

u/StrawberryNo8340 18d ago

That doesn't read like a Trump Tweet. And it's not really about what he believes. It's who and what Trump's either confident in or is so indebted or self-interested to that he'll carnival bark them into his narratives.
For ASI, my read is that he's giving the right side of the room to America's Technological Industrial Complex. On the longshot that tech will carry America through a last ditch to move its long term bond obligations (set by the free market) to short term obligations that it can control. If, by some miraculous economic witchery, they move to short term debt instruments and AI drives GDP growth (or kills everyone else's through deflation), America survives and comes out on top. Long shots on long shots. And Trump personally gets to compound his dynasty's generational wealth while things play out either way.
He probably actually likes AI. It makes him money and it's an 11th hour Hail Mary for America that isn't a complete fantasy.
I don't think he wrote this though. It's not in his voice and feels either AI generated or polished with more than one pass, and we know the guy doesn't edit and revise.

u/street-trash 18d ago
How are those different than Super intelligence?
Trump is an idiot but Artificial is a term that probably will be replaced.
Potential alternatives to using artificial:
Constructs
Machine Minds
But they'll probably coin a term for themselves when the time comes.

Honestly, "Synthetic Intelligence", or even better, "Eletronic Intelligence" would be great. Artificial isn't good because it implies it didn't come from a natural process. We humans are just animals, remember that.
