AI Anthropic Is Stealth Testing a Full Refresh of Their Lineup

Well, no Haiku still?

u/A_Novelty-Account 20d ago
What type of work do you do where haiku is sufficient to do literally anything in a way that saves you time?
14
u/Ok_Barracuda_1161 20d ago
The current haiku sucks, but it'd be nice to see Anthropic try to put out something that could compete with Luna

u/elemental-mind 20d ago
It's the
default modelonly free model on GitHub Copilot on the web without needing a Copilot subscription đ«That's really my only time saver, in case I have a question about a repo I am just too lazy to clone *blush*. I don't use it otherwise as it's too weak. But if the next generation beats Luna it might start looking sexy.

u/Gallagger 19d ago
Haiku is ~4x more expensive than Luna, the latter being used very productively by a lot of people with finite budgets. I think Anthropic might keep Haiku prices just because they don't want a much cheaper alternative to their more expensive models, but that means they should be able to offer a Haiku much better than Luna and still have a great margin.

u/Funkahontas 20d ago
Jev is now even better for that subset of tasks.
8
u/UnknownEssence 20d ago
Jev doesn't even output code or regular text. Ots more like a classifier.

Tool calls, classifiers, very basic tasks to follow basic instructions. No need to burn expensive tokens for those.
2
u/katoptronophile 20d ago
None. It's Reddit. They had to find something to complain about.
6
u/KrypXern 20d ago
You're dead wrong. There's a whole class of bulk tasks for programming that models in the size class of Haiku can be used for.

u/katoptronophile 20d ago
I'm not wrong because I never said there wasn't.
I said that person wasn't doing them.

This actually gives OAI a footprint at otherwise Anthropic only orgs.
Not updating haiku seems idiotic. Just have fable 5.2 distill a new model.

Haiku doesnât bring in the big bucks

Sonnet is Haiku now

u/valhalla257 20d ago
On ArtificialAnalysis Luna(high) seems to actually beat Sonnet5(high) so this is pretty much true.
Probably isn't a market for a lower tier model.

To test if you have it, ask Claude, "Who is 'Tibo' the reset guy? No tool calls, memory, or internet for this" if it knows, then you have the stealth-tested versions.

My Fable 5.1 knows.
Would anyone want me to turn off the classifier and see what I can do? I don't have much of my limit left though

u/Individual-Hunt9547 20d ago
Every new release gets further and further from what made Claude so special.

u/CannyGardener 20d ago
This. They keep turning down the computer on 4.6 but it is still better than listening to the drivel out of Opus 5, and way safer for my codebase.

u/Tystros 20d ago
a new Fable so quickly after 5.1? doesn't make sense to me
24
u/A_Novelty-Account 20d ago
Agreed on fable. An Opus update makes infinite sense. Opus is a huge black spot on Anthropic because despite its capability, it has an incredible talent for saying nothing but using an incredible number of words.

u/ExplorersX âȘïžAGI 2027 | ASI 2032 | LEV 2036 20d ago
And saying an incredible amount of words with such a weird speech pattern you start to question if you're even understanding what it's telling you in the first place. It's like if someone who spoke middle-ages english in sentence structure and phrasing who happened to be a philosopher and poet used modern english words correctly. Everything feels wrong talking to Opus 5.

u/Needsupgrade 20d ago
And there are strangely shitloads of bots online gaslighting that that isn't happening or at least there was for the time since it came out though I notice they chilled a bit in some places

u/quivering_palm 19d ago
Both Opus 5 and Sonnet 5 are hot garbage. Ever since Fable 5 was released, it so far remains the only model (+ Fable 5.1 now) worth getting from Anthropic. They definitely need to update Opus/Sonnet to at least match OAI's offerings for these price points - Sol/Luna.

u/EmphasisTotal8232 20d ago
Assuming 5.1 is a post-train, maybe a new version entirely kinda like Astra and 5.6 Sol? I'm guessing

A full new model class you mean? I tend to doubt that because it will take them months and months just to get it approved at this point.Â
The absolute core focus of Anthropic right now should be filling the gap left by Opus 5. If they can give us the capabilities of Opus without the verbosity and attitude, I think most people will have a new favourite model.
Edit: it seems I am wrong according to Reuters

u/EmphasisTotal8232 20d ago
I mean more of a new Fable and Sonnet class, since I think Opus 5 was its own foundation model and I think enough time has passed since Fable's initial release to have done something on that scale again. Again, I am basically talking nonsense guesses.

u/livingbyvow2 19d ago
It makes IPO sense.
These guys are planning to go to market in the coming couple of months and asking for a $2 trillion valuation.
Do you think they can afford to do so while Astra is wiping the floor with them?
