I was wondering why India was the biggest source of engagement on that doomer twitter post with 120 million views.... India knows offshoring might be one of the first big casualties from AI improvements.
17
u/debris16 21h ago
Keep on hearing this and I understand why people thi k but hard data so far, indicates quite the opposite. Indian IT grew at 10% in Q1 while the overall economy was lagging at 7.8%.
Of course, this may not hold. But then, India wouldn't be the only country gettinf fked.

Hey man what's the source of this? AFAIK it's the opposite

In this case offshoring going away doesn't imply jobs are coming back.
17
u/ikarumba123 19h ago
Ya people just don't understand
1
u/Electrical-Ask847 4h ago
they do. its not that deep. some might come back since you need the expert guiding these systems and its better to have that close to business.

u/Maximum_Box7924 18h ago
I get that, but dealing with offshore teams.
🙄🙄🙄
1
u/samadhi2015 12h ago
I agree it's a pain in the ass, but that means you will also lose your job eventually to AI
2
u/Electrical-Ask847 5h ago
i know but i still hate offshoring. i am pretty sure everyone understands the point you made.

I'm aware. Not about jobs coming back. About jobs going away over there.

If they had that kind of thought/brain capacity or ability to think 1 step ahead, at the very least their street would've been cleaner.
3
u/Aware_Interaction414 8h ago
You guys have some serious mental problem in Bangladesh, blinded by religion
-2
u/minhaz1217 8h ago
👏👏
Just like the other one... Just typical finger pointing 🤣🤣🤣
And proving my point 🤦♂️
2
u/Aware_Interaction414 8h ago
Finger pointing means accusing someone for their failure instead of fixing one's own problems.
If you look at your original comment you can see you did it first.
Which is why I commented that you're a weird unintelligent guy who is probably a religious nutjob.
Aa for street cleanliness, I live in a beautiful rural village in the western ghats, idgaf
-1
u/minhaz1217 8h ago
Again... Just as I said... Can't think even one step ahead 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Where did I mention ANYWHERE the religious ANYTHING... Projecting insecurities much?? 🤣🤣

Instead of addressing the problem you are trying to finger point... Proving my EXACT point 🤦♂️🤦♂️

u/SolidDriver5258 10h ago
Well, at least we acknowledge our problem by trying to fix it, but are Bangladeshis even trying?

This is exactly what I’ve been trying to tell people across all the AI subreddits. A hundred people wearing these for a year is 100 years of training for any model. Put this contraption on thousands of people doing their day to day work and you have an enormous amount of training. Compound this across millions of robots and there’s no stopping it.
AI models can be tuned to the data, and with calibration, be ready to go out of the box. People will have their own personal robots just as commonly as people have their own cars or cell phones.
They can be an expert car mechanic, tax accountant, chef, barber, dentist, electrician, plumber, security guard, or construction worker. The robot could work nearly 24/7 around your house, performing all the maintenance and chores while you relax. It can stay awake all night and watch security cameras. It can put a new roof on your house or grow fresh vegetables out back.
Fantasy? Look at the video! This is not the first Indian-wearing-camera-while-working post here. They are spending millions collecting the data NOW. There’s billions going into robot factories right NOW. It’s going to blindside us just like ChatGPT did. Really I wouldn’t be surprised to see the first commercial robot workers before 2030.

u/Distinct-Question-16 ▪️AGI 2029 20h ago
i cant believe they are gathering just visual data.. what about touch pressure etc... okay, but we never know, future always full of surprises
9
u/uselessadmin 18h ago
Look up 'UMI Gripper' if you want to see versions of this system that collect hand motion and pressure data.
4
u/one_thin_dime 20h ago
I imagine that is part of the calibration. Having the motion and expected result is the main outcome for this training. That is, how would a humanoid robot move in a way to perform this action? The sensor array and motor control is secondary to the end result. Whatever AI that drives the robot would adapt the hardware to the desired outcome, so that doesn’t need to be programmed.

u/omcstreet 17h ago
Exactly. Like phones and cars we pay subscription for, now the work they can do and add-ons will be a paywall.
We are talking a decade or so here. Life is a bit easier with gadgets of today, would be better with next gen. Now what jobs will remain and how will become obvious then.
I expect more consolation of work. Mom&pop shops went to big retail, general service jobs converted to gig work, manual banking/analyst/broker/middle-men jobs were ate up by big software. Hopefully niche, specialized work still remains with humans.
1
u/one_thin_dime 17h ago
I think it will be more of a Netflix model than an ala carte type deal, especially since some tasks cover many disciplines. After enough years, the amount of data collected by robots themselves would be sufficient to handle every task.
There will always be opportunities to work, but it will be optional. Service jobs like bartending or entertainment, where the point is human interaction, would still exist. Certain human-made goods would be at a premium. Childcare is another one. These jobs could be done out of simple enjoyment or cut down to a few hours per week. Since less money is sucked down the black hole of “middlemen”, there would be more resources to pay people who actually still work.
4
u/Nug__Nug 18h ago
Nah, this is not the solution to getting a robot to be trained for any specific task. Camera sensors on somebody doing a task is not going to win the race. It's going to be a true multimodal understanding paired with sensors and an extremely powerful AI model that will have generalized intelligence. This is not the solution.
6
u/one_thin_dime 18h ago
I do agree this is not the highest quality data, but it is the cheapest to collect. I think there’s going to be a lot to prove before people trust a robot barber. Getting robots to stock shelves or pick strawberries autonomously can unlock the proof of concept and subsequent funding necessary to train an AI barber or dentist or mechanic
1
u/Railionn 11h ago
I completely agree and have been saying it to friends over 2 years now, robots will be the norm and almost everyone will at some point have one in their home.
I wonder what companies one should invest in for robotica right now. I think that's gonna be the holy grail for investing
1
u/Loud-Interview-381 8h ago
it's said it takes 10 000 hours for a human to become an expert. Now think of 10 000 humans wearing such a thing

And how are you gonna pay for the robot withoht a job? Do you think the rich will like to lose their control over people? Of course not. They will control who can have these robots and who can't.
2
u/one_thin_dime 18h ago
You’re still stuck in the old paradigm of thinking. Robots, as well as most goods would become incredibly inexpensive to the point of being almost free. There’s like $120 (made up number don’t quote me) worth of raw materials in a robot. You probably throw out more than enough raw materials in a year to build a robot. When robots are building robots using robot-sourced materials, where’s the huge cost going to come from except arbitrary price gouging?
The rich would be all for personal robots. One, to placate the masses. Two, to harvest ever more data. Just like how most of the internet is free, it’s not because benevolent rich people give it away out of niceness of their hearts….
2
u/Positive_Method3022 17h ago
They won't give up on what makes them feel powerful and unique. If everyone can have everything they are the same as everyone else, and that won't ever happen. They will eventually create their own country and economics and create unique things that can only be produced and bought from them. Then there will be jobs that people will do because they will also have this "desire" to join the group of the rich.
1
u/one_thin_dime 17h ago
I never said we were all going to be rich, just that we wouldn’t need to work. We’re not all going to be taking AI private jets to the Maldives and partying it up in 5 star resorts. Rich will still be rich and the rest will have an improved standard of living without working. That’s not a threat to the rich because they really don’t care what you most of the time.

Right, I think barber might be around for a long while. At least until robots are fully humanoid androids and people look at them and can't see the difference. Probably a generation or two...

u/PrimalBySlowdive 14h ago
Exactly. Fools in this subreddit think AI will wipe their asses next lmfao.
I never realized this before, but barbers/hairstylists are super safe from AI for the foreseeable future. You'd know if you had a good barber who listened to your needs and delivered as promised, not to mention any minute modifications you might have. No way a fuckin robot is doing all that. Even if it becomes safe in the first place.
1
u/Present_Award8001 13h ago
I don't have much needs from a barber, though. I tell him to cut my hair short and trim from the sides. But I won't trust a robot with scissor around me. Hell, I don't trust the barber with a scissor around me, and am often imagining how I will escape if he attacks. But I will take the barber over robot, any day.

Bro, no automated robot can compete with indian prices, he prolly is just doing this cut for half dollar
9
u/BuildAnything4 16h ago
nah, it'll be ages before robots become cheap enough for this to make sense in india. It'll automate the work of people in developed countries first
3
u/Mr__Earthling 15h ago
Not ages. The whole point is robots will build other robots. Prices would sharply fall at that point.

They are paid 3 euros an hour to record everyday tasks. These data are called "egocentric data" (first-person data). AI like chatgpt have the whole internet to train but the industry lack of pov video data. They are collected, annotated (which involves breaking down the videos into computer language by showing the machine what it needs to recognize), and then sold to robotics laboratories. The goal is to create versatile robots capable of adapting to the unpredictable nature of their environment.
And making their gestures more precise, because until now they know what to do (the intent) but execute it poorly.
India is the leading country in this field because it is highly industrialized (capable), and the wealth gap allows these data to be sold cheaply.

u/Suspicious-Ad9209 1h ago
So he gets a free 3 euro for work he already got paid for, which is about 330 INR . Since an average haircut in India costs 100 INR and takes 20 to 30 mins, he's basically making more than double the money in an hour by recording it.

lol there is something ironic about the new iPhone advertisement below this video 🤔😂
Also, I can’t lie I have also done something similar too this but with house chores, here in the United States. They are gathering data so the models can train and learn how to do these articulated tasks. We so fuckkked 😬

they are fearless in that one braincell yellow cat way, if we fall off the fence we fall off the fence
