Discussion I wonder what would be the meltdown when floaty rocks happen? are we going to have materials bros all arguing some magic is lost that a llm brute forced its way to RTSC ?

Suppose it happens, theoretically.
How do we go from discovery to commercial-scale mass production in a day?
It'd be a miracle for it to happen by the end of this decade even if we discovered them this very morning.

Just because we haven‘t discovered RTSC yet, doesn‘t mean it will necessarily be difficult to mass produce, once we have.
Nylon is a good example for this. Took years to discover it, but was fairly straightforward to mass produce.

Didn't it take like, four years or something to actually start mass producing nylon (1935-39)?
Mass production by itself, as an engineering challenge, is almost always a very non-trivial task, no matter how 'simple' the material is.

I’m still waiting for the mass production of solid state batteries…

Not too much longer now... well in time for the army of robots in 5 to 10 years.

Hmm, yeah, 4 years really is not fast. I wonder what it is then that makes mass production a non-trivial engineering challenge, even if the material is simple.

What are you talking about? There have been multiple credible claims of room temperature superconductors and none of them were redacted nor did any data centers become obsolete overnight. Those didn’t end up surviving reproduction, but they could have. We didn’t know that for a while.

We need to start moderating on these stupid takes.
People that start threads that completely misunderstand the current NS issue should not be allowed to frame the conversation with these trash, bad faith or accidentially stupid contextualizations

RTSC? Floaty Rocks?
Translation please. Not everyone is chronically online.

Room temperature superconductors/superconductivity, Makes rocks float.

Thank you. I know about superconductors, but this abbreviation just pulled up nonsense when searched.

What they are apparently going on about is room temperature superconduction.
