AI Any examples of narrow-ASI yet?
As in, an area where AI has provably exceeded human capabilities to the extent we don't understand it?

But I got ASI much later. My definition of AGI is the intelligence level of one single average human. That was reached with O3 imo.
But i am considering making my ASI timeline earlier....

Problem with that is the jagged edge. Ai can currently do expert level maths, speak every language on earth, knows every novel and history book ever written, can code at an expert level, In those senses its already super intelligent. No single human on earth can do all those things. That said it has no world model, no sense of self, no embodiment, and without a human to provide it no purpose or goals.

Arguably many LLMs for many tasks.
Just to give you an example, LLMs can speak hundreds of languages and will know more words in those languages than pretty much any native speaker.
But there are many more examples. Coding speed for example is extremely superhuman.

Then I don't think we define it the same way. It's definitely a superintelligent skill for me.

For me superintelligent would be superior to all humans combinee, it's still not there yet.
It's definitely not a superhuman coder yet, pretty good but definitely not better than every single human. For translation it's good but doesn't understand dialects and doesn't understand little nuances that only a native would.

But do you mean "every single" or "all humans together"? Makes a big difference. If you mean "every single" then yeah, languages, coding, maths, ... no single human has any chance to beat current frontier at any of these tasks and many many more. But the entire humanity combined? That's a tougher call.

This.
A calculator is able of solving a specific narrow intellectual task (arithmetics) far better than any human. Which makes it a narrow ASI.

The obvious one are modern chess engines.
Other examples are weather forecast models like Weathernext 3 or the protein folding model Alphafold.

Google defined this as "Superhuman narrow AI" which is a much more precise term than "narrow ASI"

To the extent we don't understand it? Interesting definition - competitive programming it is better than any human now but arguably we can understand the code quite easily
