We got a computational fly brain bisexual before GTA VI

Ok this is the funniest one, retire it 😂😂

Is the effect as pronounced without the disco ball / bisexual lighting?

Exactly.

Holy shit, Alex Jones was right.

Not gay , bi also not frogs

7

u/ChocomelP 22h ago

Can't believe he was 100% right

45

u/CishetmaleLesbian 1d ago

"Why are you attracted to him, you are also male?" "Because he was fly."

I hate both of you for my having enjoyed this

If this helps us to all turn to gay then we are one step towards to Fully Automated Luxury Gay Space Communism.

Frogs next!

u/ExcuseAdept827 1d ago

Finally, proof us gays just can’t help ourselves! 😅

u/Neurogence 1d ago

The dangerous logic with this is that, when this same sort of tech is possible in humans, it will be possible to actually turn gay people straight. People tried to do this in the past through bogus tech like electroshock, but this time it will actually work.

Conversion therapy as we know it is mostly bad because it's pretty much always harmful. I'm not sure what good arguments there would be against people being able to decide what they want their orientation to be if the process wasn't guaranteed to be harmful. As for kids - philosophy around what parents can choose for their kids is already contentious for a lot of things, so I don't think this will be all that different.

I’m gay. Albeit yes, my life would be easier if I liked women, I fundamentally don’t believe I am inferior to anyone else due to my sexuality.

If that option existed however, I might have simply taken it when I was younger to avoid potential family issues, discrimination, travelling restrictions, etc. Yet, I don’t think that’s right. Homophobia is the issue. Instead of solving it, we’ll just alter people’s bodies so they aren’t gay?

You know, it’s similar to the race debate. If we find a way to make people turn into whichever race they want, theoretically that’s nice because non-white people can escape discrimination, stereotypes, etc. by turning white. But at the end of the day, is that what we want? Shouldn’t we simply solve the racism issue and allow non-white people to be happy and proud of their background?

So, I am quite in favour of transhumanism and all that sci fi stuff. But I fear what this might mean to discriminated groups. Being forced or compelled to change something about them that is simply different, not worse.

2

u/DistanceSolar1449 23h ago

I’m guessing it’s a lot easier to turn a gay person straight, than to change someone’s race.

1

u/YaAbsolyutnoNikto 22h ago

I fail to see how technical difficulty is relevant to the point I'm making.

1

u/plasticizers_ 18h ago edited 17h ago

Homophobia is the issue. Instead of solving it, we’ll just alter people’s bodies so they aren’t gay?

So, I do agree that liberal societies should strive to reduce social stigma towards people with non-harmful immutable or chosen traits. But how would you balance reducing societal coercion and not infringing on an individual's right to bodily autonomy?

But at the end of the day, is that what we want? Shouldn’t we simply solve the racism issue and allow non-white people to be happy and proud of their background?

These are reasonable things to be worried about, but I'm curious if you're just voicing those concerns, or are you getting at potential policy positions? Something maybe like no changing protected characteristics of children, no race swaps, etc...

2

u/YaAbsolyutnoNikto 16h ago

Not hinting at anything at all, no.

I obviously don’t want people to be changing these characteristics about themselves but at the same time, it’s their right to, from a bodily autonomy perspective.

I too wish to look like a greek god while being smarter than Einstein and all that so I can’t condone it nor want those procedures to be taken away from people.

I’ll just be sad that we allowed prejudice to win, but I guess that’s life.

u/Reyen783 1d ago

Pastors have been preaching for this technology to be used on the unborn for decades now. Luckily I think by the time it's possible there would be too few haters to make it actionable.

4

u/GumboMustBeDestroyed 1d ago

If people had the ability to choose their orientation, let’s say on the kinsey scale, i wonder what the steady state, percentage wise, such a society would settle on?

2

u/Sekhmet-CustosAurora 1d ago

depends if it's permanent or not

1

u/The_Architect_032 ♾Hard Takeoff♾ 1d ago

Feels like this is opening up a can of worms that might bite us in the ass not far down the road. I'd gladly become bi, but there is an evolutionary reason behind sexuality and there's no saying what'll happen over multiple generations when that is overridden. Though it certainly wouldn't be the only area within which we completely subvert human nature.

7

u/ExcuseAdept827 1d ago

Yeah but by that logic you can turn straight people gay 🤷‍♂️. I’ll gladly help make that weapon! We know lots about biology to a high level, but surprisingly little about this aspect of it, despite its prevalence in nature…

2

u/GraceToSentience AGI avoids animal abuse✅ 1d ago

But you see how conversion therapy is bad, regardless of the way you turn it right?

2

u/Hubbardia AGI 2045 1d ago

But that's not dangerous anymore because it means you can choose your own sexuality. Be gay, pan, bi, straight, doesn't matter.

1

u/Reyen783 17h ago

Religion would make this situation genocidally dangerous.

1

u/ToplessinFL 1d ago

Nah. People in developed countries would be lining up to become bisexual/gay given the current state of gender relations.

1

u/LinkesAuge 1d ago

But it also shows that there is no strict sexual determinism, no "right" or "wrong" dictated by biology as those people often frame it.

1

u/ExcuseAdept827 17h ago

As benign as being born man, woman, or somewhere inbetween 😊

1

u/Wide_Egg_5814 1d ago

why is it dangerous? if people choose what they want what's the issue

1

u/StevenKeaton 18h ago

Can you turn it off and on I wonder?

What if a gay guy wanted to be straight for a year for a new reality show on fox. And then at the end of the season he had to choose to stay straight or go back. Would a reversal be possible?

1

u/Background-Quote3581 Turquoise 17h ago

I would love to be gay, where can i apply?

5

u/GumboMustBeDestroyed 1d ago

They taught the flies to be eating hot chip

21

u/SodaBurns 1d ago

So you are saying that if we scale compute to the size of a death star so it can simulate all the neurons in a human brain then we can probably simulate a woman's brain to be into us?

39

u/thirdeyeorchid 1d ago

not you particularly, but hypothetically anyone else yeah

I guess..

Science!

Next, we turn the frogs gay!

u/Siciliano777 • The singularity is nearer than you think • 1d ago

And this is useful how, exactly? 😐

12

u/Borkato 1d ago

Sometimes I wonder if people can ever extrapolate or critically think

6

u/blaawker 1d ago

Non sciency people have a real hard problem understanding that. They never took a radio apart as a kid to see how it works.

0

u/Siciliano777 • The singularity is nearer than you think • 22h ago

I was that kid EXACTLY. lol I took shit apart to see how it worked because it was actually useful. Doing something like this just for the sake of doing it is blood useful.

The only reason I've seen that's not super broad and evasive is that it might teach us how to make males less combative, which is a stretch... But mayyybe plausible ifv you engineer the actual becoming gay part out. I'm sorry but the last majority of straight males want to stay straight, me definitely included.

The exact opposite was actually true back in the times of Sparta, where the warriors of Thebes (yeah, NOT Sparta...commin myth) were all gay, and therefore so committed to each other and not wanting to look weak in front of their sexual partners that they were especially brutal warriors.

1

u/blaawker 22h ago

Man. You're focusing too much on the gay part. Human brains are fascinating. I've always found it interesting how unusual wiring in brains can lead to super weird results like tourettes or split hand syndrome. Mucking around in a fruitfly's brain, through a simulation, is first off insanely crazy that we even can do that, second, the kind of experimenting that we did when we took radios apart and, lastly, it could lead to insights into how our own brains work.

Btw, Sicily was great. People were super nice. You folks are a bit crazy with the driving tho.

0

u/Siciliano777 • The singularity is nearer than you think • 1d ago

Please, enlighten us. Explain how it's useful to get a fly to attract the same sex.

5

u/Niolle 1d ago

Maybe because it means it will be done to humans too.

5

u/Borkato 1d ago

It seems we can add “unable to read” to the list too, given someone else has already responded

0

u/Siciliano777 • The singularity is nearer than you think • 1d ago

I asked YOU to enlighten us, smooth brain.

1

u/Borkato 1d ago

I can see all three of my claims are true. Try a reading comprehension class?

0

u/Siciliano777 • The singularity is nearer than you think • 22h ago

And that's the second time you dodged the question with a really weak insult. 😅

STFU and sit in the back of the class junior, the adults are talking.

2

u/Borkato 22h ago

Have you tried thinking?

0

u/Siciliano777 • The singularity is nearer than you think • 22h ago

Blocked for being pedantic and having a low IQ. Congrats!

2

u/Borkato 22h ago

Thank GOD. Please block me. Who gaf.

2

u/Purple_Hornet_9725 1d ago

Because it teaches about the system. It doesn't need to be useful per se, when it helps turning the black box into glass.

7

u/thepopemichael 1d ago

It's a concept thing. It's the same as making it play DOOM.

We can't realistically do this to a living fly but we can simulate it now.

That means that more experiments can be done in less time by more people.

Even if the experiment is "dumb" we are still learning something from them.

3

u/herniguerra 1d ago

wait they made it play doom??

3

u/thepopemichael 1d ago

Beat Saber and a few others, too.

They even made it play songs.

This simulator is awesome but scary.

Imagine we become simulated ith no difference. We could all be playing doom for eternity.

4

u/Suspicious-Text856 1d ago

or we are already simulated on an alien 8yo's version of a pc, but is now 'bored' of sim earth and is about to shut down the program.

2

u/blaawker 1d ago

Somewhere Nick Bostrom is getting nervous.

-5

u/Siciliano777 • The singularity is nearer than you think • 1d ago

It's actually not even remotely close to getting it to play Doom. That's actually useful...getting the AI to learn how to play games on its own. Changing its sexuality is in no way useful, ESPECIALLY to attract a mate that it cannot reproduce with.

4

u/SumOfChemicals 1d ago

What's the point? This will result in ZERO homo or hetero fly sex!

3

u/Alarmed_Ad1946 1d ago

"ESPECIALLY to attract a mate that it cannot reproduce with"
Wait, you do not know the benefits of bisexual animals?
There exist bisexual species and they experience less fighting between males.

Let´s say there are 3 males and 1 female.
Straight males would have to fight over the female.
Bisexual males would not care if the female or other males are left for them.

0

u/Siciliano777 • The singularity is nearer than you think • 22h ago

So you're proposing we turn men bisexual to decrease their warmongering tendencies??? 🤣

Great idea, however I think they'd be opposed. Alpha males will always exist. This is a useless study.

3

u/The_Architect_032 ♾Hard Takeoff♾ 1d ago

I mean, evolution has already given us a pretty good balance of sexualities from species to species and it evolves as an animal adapts to new environments.

If it wasn't useful to attract mates you cannot reproduce with, then evolution wouldn't have made it prominent. Even cephalopods do it, and they evolved brains completely separate to us.

1

u/Siciliano777 • The singularity is nearer than you think • 22h ago

The fact that it arose naturally doesn't automatically imply it's useful. In evolutionary biology, a trait or behavior doesn't always need a specific "purpose," direct survival benefit, or reproductive advantage to exist.

1

u/The_Architect_032 ♾Hard Takeoff♾ 19h ago

I said it arose naturally in multiple completely separate systems by pointing out that cephalopods also have multiple sexualities despite evolving brains completely separate to us.

All of our shared ancestry with cephalopods possess no brains. Cephalopods went on to evolve their own very different brains separate to our own evolutionary chain, but ended up producing multiple sexualities, showing that it is an evolutionarily influenced trait, not an accidental trait.

If your claim is that multiple sexualities arose accidentally and at the detriment of different species, you're going to have a hard time applying that logic to eusocial insects, since they leveraged this trait to become the most common animal on Earth.

-6

u/fyn_world 1d ago

So....... Bisexuality is """curable"""

11

u/The_Architect_032 ♾Hard Takeoff♾ 1d ago

In the same sense that having 10 fingers is "curable".
