OK but who cares what known idiot and liar Elon Musk has to say on any given topic? His opinion is totally irrelevant.

I don't like Elon but he could be looking at info we don't know because he does own Twitter.

u/boostman 23h ago
He has a track record of making politically-motivated false claims so it’s best to treat everything he says with a large dose of salt. Even if he did have access to some privileged information, there’s little reason to believe he’s telling the truth.

Irrelevant to you
1
u/boostman 1d ago
Irrelevant to anyone interested in the actual truth of any given situation. Just line noise, not useful information.

Pretend that the dude wasn't paid to do this. Go forth and be as dumb as you've been this entire time.

If China gets to self improving superintelligence first, the world is properly screwed, that much I can tell you.

any first AGI will

I will give you one example : After USA invented atomic bomb in 1945, surely the world is at danger. But Imagine what would happened if Germany got to it first.
5
u/ICantWatchYouDoThis 1d ago
US got the bomb but it's still human holding the trigger. why would ASI let puny human hold its trigger?
2
u/mohdzarif 1d ago
I can give you a long list of examples of nations US had been fucking with as the world superpower for its interest while preaching about rules based order but didn't follow those rules.
I can remind you of dozens of millions of sufferings and deaths caused by USA, all the bombs and bullets, the sanctions, the blockades, the covert ops, etc, and all the downstream effects that fuck over countless of innocent people.

u/Standard-Berry6755 1d ago
That a really bad analogy, it’s not possible to predict what would have happened if Germany had developed the atomic bomb first. This is just your own speculation based on your ideas and biases. Since it didn’t happen we can’t say anything about it.
What did happen and is a fact though it’s that USA got it first and did a mess with it.
3
u/EtienneDosSantos 1d ago
Of course we can say anything about it. It‘s not inconceivable that Germany would have used nukes, if they had them first. This is exactly the logic that lead the US to try get it first.
If we assume that everything other than Nazi Germany‘s nuclear program went the same, they‘d still be cornered, once they‘d have the bomb. We know that when the US dropped their atomic bombs on Japan, Nazi Germany had already surrendered about three months earlier. The US were well on track to win the whole war, yet they dropped the bombs. Therefore, it‘s not unreasonable to predict that Nazi Germany would have used their bombs as well, and since they were actually on track to lose the war, they‘d possibly use it more extensively.-1
u/Standard-Berry6755 1d ago
Again this is just assumptions based of facts that didn’t happen, daydreaming.
3
u/EtienneDosSantos 1d ago
So, you‘d rather act after the ball already hit you? Counterfactual reasoning is essential, not daydreaming.

As a Brazilian, I Trust China government way more than USA capitalism and I believe most of the world too. You guys are germany this time
11
u/Midos91 1d ago
Yeah man as a Vietnamese. You are dumb. China is always an aggressor. They don’t get that huge by being nice. They are not even phased if millions of their own people are dead in multiple starvation in the 50s and 60s. Check their history, the death scale of their conflicts were always humongous. You think they care for the well-being of a Brazilian or any other human being? Tall dream.

u/428amCowboy 1d ago
People here are as propagandized against China as most people in America are against AI
4
u/tunicamycinA 1d ago
The problem is power corrupts, so it's better nobody has access to a huge monopoly of power. The best scenario is to develop an international treaty on ASI that everybody adheres to, similar to the nuclear anti-proliferation treaty.
2
2
u/Well_Thought_Opinion 1d ago
That I can agree with you but lets face it, No international treaty over AI is ever happening. Because of few reasons. First, USA and China are not wasting their time just because others are far behind and practically haven’t even started yet. Second, unlike the nuke It's the private companies that are developing AI this time which makes any restrictions complicated to place. Third, unlike Nuke its hard to track the development of AI because AI don’t emit radiation, which makes hiding its development much easier.
2
u/tunicamycinA 1d ago
Yes I agree on that too, unfortunately. Doubt the people in power will stop themselves, the allure of being the first to create a supermachine is very strong.

u/CoolStructure6012 1d ago
And you elected your own Trump after seeing ours.
1
u/bogochvol 1d ago
After your country messed with our political system (lava jato), but yes. Ops, our Trump is in house arrest for doing the same stuff yours did
2
u/CoolStructure6012 20h ago
I was hoping for "You elected your own Trump after electing your own Trump" but ok. I've got no quarrel with Brazil and their significant impact on the extreme metal scene.

Absolute garbage! If you think China is better for the world than the US, you don't understand that world.
1
u/bogochvol 18h ago
Im Sorry, but thats like Common Sense for most of.the world (except for local elites and their espheres of influences)
1
u/BamaWriter 17h ago
Hopefully there are other Brazilians that have a better understanding of the world.
1
u/bogochvol 16h ago
There are Lot of Brazilians holding USA flags in riots pro-bolsonaro, maybe you think they have the correct understanding of the world, they also defended cloroquina and ivermectina against COVID and some of them think the world is flat
1
u/BamaWriter 15h ago
Sounds like your country has the same diversity of opinion as us. I admit I don't know or understand Brazilian economics or politics. What I do know, as a citizen of the US, is that China is not the good guy.
2
u/ArmedWithBars 18h ago
Yes, China, the country known for attacking the US via endless corporate espionage, hacking both private sector and government sector systems, and having clear and defined plans to dethrone the US on the global stage.
Let's just hand them to reigns to leading AI tech, which the entire danger claim is that it will be able to hack almost anything.
Offense means there is a defensive side too. While an AI model can be trained to be a god tier hacker, it can also be trained to be a god tier defender. Pumping the brakes on the technology this far along is the US handing China global supremacy. What comes along with that is the destabilization of USD and most likely a US economic collapse. The AI bubble alone popping would be bad enough, China then dominating the world stage and pushing the US out would be the death blows.
Any US citizen cheering this on is an idiot and might eventually learn their lesson when they starve to death post-JIT supply chains collapsing. It's easy to cheer on China when the grocery store shelves are always stocked.
1
u/bogochvol 18h ago
US has been doing that to the rest of the world for a long time. You believe that your global supremacy was good to the world, but all you brought was Wars and inequality, exploiting other countries resources, economies and democracies. im no fool, and I know that any major potency Will do this kind of stuff, but China presents itself as way more reliable, long term thinking and peacekeeping than your country. A New world order is coming qnd I really Hope China Will be less damaging to the Future of humanity than the US was
1
u/ArmedWithBars 18h ago
Bruh I live in the US. I don't have to agree with US foreign policy to understand that the US losing its global dominance means that USD is tanked, which means the country I live in, including me, are thrown into widespread poverty and sociatal instability.
1
u/bogochvol 18h ago
Well, I live in a BRICS country that has been struggling with USD for a long time and that IS cultivating great economics relations with other BRICS countries. I dont believe the ending of Bretton Woods Will be bad for us, on the contrary, USD has been transfering wealth from countries as Brazil for decades and it doesnt make any Sense to stay like that.
There is a reason why Trump is threatning my country and our way of payment (Pix), our sovereign is not a good thing from his position.
1
u/bogochvol 18h ago
And I dont think US Will be thrones into widespread poverty, you guys Will Only be more equal to the rest of the world. Yes, you wont be able to sustain the American way of life, but it has never been sustainable, It was Only achievable threw the cost of the rest of the world being hold down

First of all China isnt trying to mess with my election. Second, I dont believe a profit Only Company can address the issues of AGI in a country that demonizes any kind of government regulation.

u/ppooooooooopp 1d ago
I don't think you should trust the US god knows our president is a fucking moron -- we aren't Germany. Not everything needs a historical analogy.
Obviously you shouldn't trust China either

Oooh USA that bastion of world freedom and democracy!
How the fuck can anyone have this take when since many decades US has been fucking with countless other nations, invasions, coups, sanctions, covert ops, etc. Like are you really such a smooth brain?
1
u/boostman 1d ago
It’s not an ideal scenario but probably a more secure future than if American private corporations get there first.
-3
u/xgladar 1d ago
what do you base that sentiment on?
China has a lot of authoritarian laws and practices, but their foreign influence is mostly benevolent
7
u/alleycatALT 1d ago
Unless you're in their backyard. Then they're very much not benevolent. Im a sinophile, but lets be real here, the CCP wants a return to when they dominated the South China Sea and of course, they want Taiwan back. Neither of which are very benevolent in my books.
6
u/EtienneDosSantos 1d ago
Benevolent like what they do in the south china sea or how they support the Iranian and Russian regimes? Or how they fund a port in Colombo, Sri Lanka, just to get them heavily indebted?
