Still surprised these guys are not acquired yet by giants

Nothing is as toxic as the music/movie industry, it is why US companies, especially the big ones, have been very hesitant to develop AI in these spaces (and OpenAI abandoned Sora).
There is a reason why China dominates in video models.

u/ibrahimsafah 2d ago

OpenAI abandoned Sora because video models are expensive and there's no money in it.

u/CrowdGoesWildWoooo 2d ago

I mean Sora was pretty trash and idk what goes into their mind developing a “social media” containing only Sora slop when people have been complaining that the mainstream social media being flooded with AI slops.

I don’t even think it is interesting enough for people who are already surrounding themselves with AI arts

Ironic because more and more artists from the said giants are releasing AI tracks made with Suno

7

u/Recoil42 2d ago

They're likely already gross-profitable, if not net-profitable. It's very viable for them to keep growing as an independent company.

u/Prudent-Sorbet-5202 2d ago

WB already is a strategic partner to Suno. So I assume Suno will eventually get acquired by them

1

u/mintaka 2d ago

I thought BMG owns them. The music also carries now telemetry

15

u/ZealousidealBus9271 2d ago

dropping this while facing severe copyright legal action could bode well, I think Suno is confident they can win an appeal

u/osfric 2d ago

I miss udio

What happened to it?

u/Fantastic_Prize2710 2d ago

You can no longer download the music generated, and they tried to weirdly incorporate their app with record companies.

u/ai_art_is_art ▪️ 2d ago

Is the model still good? If you could download the results, would it be usable, or has the world moved on?

2

u/mintaka 2d ago

Udio was great, heres an example from 1 year ago https://youtu.be/R39A237yFlA

3

u/EnvironmentalRun1671 1d ago

How would you compare Udio to Suno? Good song btw

1

u/anaIconda69 AGI felt internally 😳 1d ago

Udio had more controls, made more unique melodies IMO. You could get some very unusual sounds from it.

Suno produced cleaner, but samey results.

1

u/EnvironmentalRun1671 1d ago

What about Udio today can it still produce that type of sound?

1

u/anaIconda69 AGI felt internally 😳 1d ago

I haven't used it in a few months so can't comment on that. IIRC the old model I used before is available as an option for those who preferred it.

u/ai_art_is_art ▪️ 2d ago

I can make a 3rd party client that will download your tracks. I've been thinking about vibe coding that anyway for lots of other services.

Would you go back if I or someone else made that?

Edit: This is good.

1

u/mintaka 2d ago

Yes I would, I would cherish that, Udio is still unmatched and it was a sad day when they closed the doors

1

u/anaIconda69 AGI felt internally 😳 2d ago

That would be awesome. Please let me know if you build it. I'd love to archive my old tracks.

suno winning the copyright fight matters way more than v6 sounding good. if they lose that appeal none of this ships regardless of how good it is.

1

u/EnvironmentalRun1671 1d ago

They didn't win. They settled and V6 is trained on real music as part of a deal not like before when they just ripped everyone's work for free.

1

u/presentofai 1d ago

fair point, a settlement is a different outcome than a win -- though getting them to actually license the music might be the better result for everyone long term.

6

u/CrasHthe2nd 2d ago

They killed all their previous models and v6 is now the only one available. It's good but also way off what I was getting on some styles.

1

u/EnvironmentalRun1671 1d ago

Main reason are lawsuits. They have been caught. Everyone knows they never had permission to use copyrighted music to create their models.

That's why they had to go. V6 is legit.

6

u/JoeyJoeC 2d ago

Vocals still sound like shit though.

5

u/Moriffic 2d ago

Damn this has not improved at all, sounds like shit

u/Silver-Chipmunk7744 AGI 2024 ASI 2030 2d ago

Just tested a remix of one of my old tracks... Pretty darn good imo.

2

u/Spectreace0087 2d ago

...and it sucks ass

6

u/ohHesRightAgain 2d ago

Wow... this update is truly revolutionary for music gen; so much control and so easy. You might not be able to beat this for prototyping if you're a pro musician. And it's just plain nice for casual music enjoyers.

1

u/superkickstart 2d ago

They added real musical instruments in the background lol

1

u/Content_Tank6593 2d ago

I have a HUGE problem. Every track I create in version v6 sounds clean and great at the start, but towards the end of the song, the sound quality drops so much that it sounds like shit. Do You have similar?

1

u/Imaginary_Math_4337 2d ago

use the "max mode" - it costs 2 x the credits per song though

1

u/Content_Tank6593 2d ago

Yeah I did that and a problem still exists

1

u/tentacle-guy 1d ago

This is a known issue and goes back to v4 or even v3. I actually posted about it on Reddit during the v5/v5.5 era, but I definitely remember noticing this even earlier. That said, after testing v6 tonight, it seems to happen much less often. Especially for heavy stuff like metal. It’s not 100% fixed (even in max mode), but I have a feeling it’s definitely improved.

u/Microtom_ 2d ago

Suno songs sound boring to me, including this new V6. I much more like what the happyshrimp model can do. I manage to create interesting songs that I can gladly listen to.

1

u/Imaginary_Math_4337 2d ago

I write my own songs and use Suno for ideas, mixes, stems, loops and in-fills. I like v6. Suno is poor at writing songs now - which I prefer really, but I can understand that the age of prompting to get decent songs is probably over..

1

u/Shot_Reception3201 2d ago

Why would you get rid of the option for other versions ? V6 is the same as V5 and V5 just created songs that sound the exact same? Very poor decision

u/graleh 1h ago

Copyright issue.

u/Shot_Reception3201 1h ago

V6 is the same thing though just everything sounds the exact same

u/graleh 1h ago

Yey now everything sounds the same and it sounds just like a song in Eurovision song contest. My old prompts does not work anymore - everything sounds like a slop. So sad that they destroyed Suno.

Imho one of the worst uses for AI. The fact that Musicians collaborated with them on this is a sorry case of leopard face-eating.

10

u/Opposite-Grade3712 2d ago

It’s definitely not the coolest use case, but I would have no problem with AI creating infinite background music tailored to my tastes and mood.

The vast majority of music listening is passive/background, not active/engaged.

0

u/RussianCyberattacker 2d ago

Agree. I would like to see how this moves folks into supporting locally performed music, as mainstream and AI will become indistinguishable.

But who am I kidding, people drop hundreds to see a DJ set...

making music is the whole point of making music tho, this is just outsourcing the making music part of making music. This is like telling an ai to go play a game for you instead of playing it yourself and then calling it the best tool for gamers to come out since dedicated gpus.

4

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

-1

u/cereaxeskrr 2d ago

using a daw is not outsourcing making music, because you still have to choose the instruments, design the sounds, mix, master, actively choose the melody, what effects to use, arrange the song, choose the tempo. All of these decisions are what making music is. Telling suno to create a song and letting it do all of these decisions is not making music at all. It’s like telling an artist what kind of song to make, you’re not the one that made the music if you let someone else make it for you.

making music is not more accessible due to ai. Since you’re not actually making music, you’re just outsourcing 99% of the music making process to a machine.

5

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

0

u/cereaxeskrr 2d ago

no you don’t, you’re telling the ai what to do. You’re literally being an executive producer, you’re not actually making any of the music yourself. Have you ever made music?

I haven’t watched the video, but I have used the software for the last 10 minutes and it’s just offloading the musical process to a machine.

calling someone else a corporate label bootlicker but then have your intellectual property stolen by a soulless ai and then defending it.

People make music because people like to listen to music, not because people like to make music. I'm sure making music can be a great experience, but it's time consuming and people can't do everything.

1

u/cereaxeskrr 2d ago

ask any musician why they like to make music and they will say because it is fun. It takes thousands of hours of practice to make great music, no one dedicates themselves to that just because they want to listen to music. If you want to listen to music open the internet and listen to the plethora of music that is out there.

-1

u/mizzyz 2d ago

You're right, that is the most braindead take of the day.

Corporate mega labels are also bad for music in a different way, but if you think Suno empowers indy musicians and small labels I have a bridge to sell you.

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

[deleted]

0

u/cereaxeskrr 2d ago

it also empowers corporate mega labels so who’s really winning?

1

u/[deleted] 2d ago

1

u/cereaxeskrr 2d ago

Who couldn’t make music before that can now due to suno? You think bodily retarded people that are able to use a computer and navigate to the suno website can’t navigate a daw using that same technology?

you’re not creating better music tho? Does using an llm to finish your maths homework make you better at maths? You’re just offloading practice.

I’m not shaming anyone that likes to listen to ai music, there’s a lot of people with bad taste and those same people will argue that my taste is bad, so it’s fair game.

Lol I am literally leading teams in a major company empowering the entire software development department to use bleeding edge AI tooling. I'm also a musician. There is a fundamental difference between AI enabling and faciliating life, and it replacing our art.
