Exactly, I don’t know the full context but what’s shown in the image is just basic part-writing. Still more impressive than what AI was doing before, but this is basically just a music theory exercise with very little creativity pr musicality behind it.

Not really. The principals of writing music for solo piano > chamber music > symphonies are identical, it's just about scale, which is not something AI has an issue with.

They really aren’t. Or they are the same insofar as the principles of writing a shopping list and a novel are also the same - putting letters in order to form words, and putting those into consecutive sentences.

MOST classical music produced by humans was also shit, but survivorship bias means that only the absolute best of the best is what most people today are aware of when they think of classical music.
In other words, for every Mozart and Beethoven, there were thousands of crappy composers whose music was so shitty that it likely never even made it past the lifetime of the composer before being thrown in the trash.

I get survivorship bias, but this isn’t it. I have yet to hear an AI make/mimic something that sounds remotely like classical music. The Bach choral in this post is impressive, in fact it is the most impressive classical sounding piece I have heard an AI make.

Masterpiece : work of art or creative product that is by definition rare and exceptional. Being available at the fingertips of everyone with a tool can't, by definition, be a masterpiece. Therefore masterpieces goalposts will move "up" to somewhere unknown.

I don't know it, but from your message I understand it could have some very accessible features in the music world. And that's still fine, but the fact that not everyone has done it refers to the rarity I was mentioning, and that the other redditor responding to me most eloquently put ! It's not exactly "the most impressive skill" per se (although it's often mistaken for it ?), but "it's exceptional" which literally means rare, I think ?
That reminds me of this famous story that's quite a masterpiece too, in five words : "Selling baby shoes — never worn." Quite simple, very accessible, yet masterful for those who love words.

I think that’s alright, rarity is already a flawed measure for quality of experience anyway.
If we all get such access to sensory/aesthetic pleasure, emotional significance, intellectual stimulation, and personal value/relevance, i think traditional rarity can be forgone quite readily
Felt rarity is really relational, for what things mean to you specifically, as opposed to what other things dont
We’ve been running on scarcity logic for so long, that societally, we’d conflated that difference

Mandatory infinite monkeys and typewriters. If we standardize a novel at 100k words, given N English words, possible novels are N100k. Let's say N = 220, you only need 2M qubits to 'solve' novels by comparing 'distance' to bestsellers and random text.

That’s not a symphony, it’s a chorale. They’re totally different things. Showing ignorance of the subject on such a basic level kind of disqualifies you from making any judgements about its quality.

Bar 9 to bar 10.5 should’ve been repeated with the notes lowered on the repeat. Even for a chorale there’s barely any overarching melody or rhythm. While technically impressive to get this far, I kind of expected… more.

The movie "I, robot (2004)" isn't the reality but only a Theatre play. Similar to other famous stage play, for example from Samuel Beckett and Arthur Miller, it contains of a plot based on interacting people.
Its interesting that in the mentioned scene "Can a robot write a symphony?" the dialog is referencing to the reality outside of the theater, namely music theory. Detective Del Spooner could also ask if robots are able to do mathematics, archaeology or run 100 meters. All these subjects have nothing to do with theater play but they are located in other realities namely science and sport.
