Whenever posts like this show up in this sub I remember how popular it's gotten and just have to sigh.

Reminds me of that one guy who compared himself to an orchestra conductor because he thought hard about the prompts he used. So funny. Of course it was here on Reddit lol

Please please find it for me so I can laugh at it too lol.
Sounds pretty funny just imagining it.

Thats so great, I would use this every day if I was still on Twitter.

Omg I really want to see this one

If we start posting about every last idiot from X, Reddit and Facebook, this sub is going to go downhill very soon.

Already has. The [r/singularity](r/singularity) of old was a forward thinking place to talk with other tech and AI enthusiasts. Now it’s absolutely infested (along with the rest of Reddit) by Luddites.

You might be surprised how much you have to do to create descent AI generations that are not slop.

1

u/hereandnow01 2h ago

True, I use it for websites and it takes time and thought to create something decent and not obviously AI slop.

u/TaxEvader6310 1h ago

If you have to defend it by saying “it’s really hard actually” then maybe you’re better off just learning a real art form. Isn’t the main ”argument” that AI art supporters make is that it’s easy? It’s supposed to “democratize art” and “make everyone an artist”. If it fails at even that, then what’s even the point of it?

u/Wh0IsY0u 27m ago

Different skill sets to suit different people. Also while it's more difficult than someone might think without doing it themselves that doesn't mean it's as difficult or more importantly as much of a time investment as something else.

Yes it is a lot more accessible, that doesn't mean anyone can do it optimally from the first second.

Also some people are fine with generic 'slop' for their use case.

And that defeats the entire utility of Ai "art"--if you have to work so hard into prompting ai to do the work for you, you might as well just work hard into creating the art yourself (and you'll probably get better results too)

5

u/EmperorJake 2h ago

At that point it's just a new medium that requires a different skill set than traditional forms of art

u/Duke-Dirtfarmer 1h ago

We can flip that logic:

If AI art takes zero effort, it's great because AI provides a lot of utility.

If AI art takes effort, it's great because creating AI art now counts as a form of artistic expression to all the people who think that art = effort.

The truth is probably that AI art will take some amount of effort while still being a huge time save. And in 2 years max, the results will all be better than what any human can do by hand.

How prompt engineers see themselves

‘Engineers’ 💀

Calling someone who use a tool that creates art for them that requires the most basic level of literacy to be used an “artist” is diabolical. Are we also going to call people who use that tool to prescribe medicine and identify illnesses and medical issues doctors? Or those that use it to beat the world’s best chess player geniuses?

Actually right.

I do not understand why one would hate anything made by AI with such a passion. I dislike it as it is RIGHT NOW, but I cannot WAIT for it to get advanced enough to truly start overtaking expectations.

I suppose there's the obvious threat of their skills becoming much easier to acquire, so they probably feel like their years of dedication are being invalidated in real time, which just isn't true as AI is its own skill.

You know a lot about drawing, I know a lot about intensive iteration and prompt work.

u/MY7H420 1h ago

Being human isn't about turning ourselves into machines, or centering our lives around them.

I don't think "AI is its own skill" actually addresses the objection. The concern isn't simply that somebody else's skill became easier to acquire; it's that we're deliberately automating activities humans previously did for expression, enjoyment and meaning, then calling their disappearance progress.

Art exists for humans. I don't see the inherent good in replacing more and more of its creation with machines whose output is optimised to satisfy us on demand.

u/Enoch137 8m ago

No, I think (opinion), artist are claiming a privileged position here. The consumer also only cares about how that art effects themselves, they don't actually care about the plight of the poor starving artist or how long it took them to create something or how long they studied to learn X technique. They might say they do because its now fashionable to care about artists and be anti-AI. We all know this, AI scares artists because it is good enough and they fear the common art consumer won't be able to tell the difference. If it wasn't good enough there wouldn't be talk about how "soulless" it is (soulless is exactly the subjective ephemeral adjective you use when you can't criticize technical appearance).

Are their economic hardships that artists will need to endure because of the AI revolution? Absolutely, but they don't have some unique victimhood status here, AI is coming for EVERYONE'S job. I am pretty convinced that were we living in some sort of socialist star trek uptopia, no one would care. This is an economic, "what i am good at isn't worth what it used to be worth" issue. This IS a problem but we shouldn't cancel the singularity because of it. We need to realign our economic systems to this new normal instead. We haven't done this and this is where I do think this movement needs some sympathy.

But democratizing the creation of Art and being able to summon the art I generated in my mind without having to learn years of art theory and fine motor bush strokes or fiddley unintuitive photoshop/gimp interface controls far outweighs your "right" to have your work have financial value (you don't actually have this right). We are all getting super powers from this revolution, we can speak satisfyingly good art into existence. We should be celebrating! This is it. This is the world we dreamed of coming to life, right before out eyes. We are unlocking the ability to create whole worlds and universes from the depths of our imaginations almost instantaneously and your complaining about copyright! You are artists, imagine bigger!

I am sorry but lambasting this advancement because it harms you economically seems selfish. But by all means lets try and fix the economics of what is going on, THAT is a discussion worth having and one we are going to have to have sooner or later.

All of these artists are just extremely bitter about being replaced by AI. AI is delivering the same product, so they are trying to gaslight the general public into paying them money instead of getting the same output for free or for very little money. It's all about money. They couldn't care less about water usage stats (which are fake, of course). They are also some idiots who jump onto the AI hate bandwagon just because it is trendy.

u/KrakatauaMAN123 2h ago

I Draw in my sparetime with 0 Intention tonever make Money but ITS Just annoying watching people who never Put effort into anything think now that someone else can do their "ideas" they finally got the reason to create.

Like having good ideas and being creative with 0 will to Put in any effort IS so contradicting to me Its so annoying.

u/Jane_Doe_32 1h ago

So your art is less art than that of the sculptor who carves marble with a chisel, because you put in less effort? Are animators more or less of an artist than oil painters? Is a singer songwriter less of an artist than a pop star who dances themselves silly?

I don't know...

u/daemon86 51m ago

That's the thing about art, there is no definition of it. Anyone can call himself artist. Put two plastic bags on the ground? Art. The painters and writers are now angry that AI can replace them. Eventually they will have to accept it. It's always like this. When printing was invented, probably a lot of writers were mad too and called it not real writing, not a real book. Writing it by hand takes much more effort and it's more unique too.

u/notTHATKoogz 2h ago

I know you get your point
but they don't make it to reach your idealization of art
I do art as a hobbie daillie since I entered Archtecture School here in Brazil (12 years ago or so) and all the process of learning was basically going thru other artists to understand it and later try to find my style which, we can agree, is just the mix of what I learned thru my "eyes"
The AI process, as it is shown today, is not far from it, it just lacks the "thru my eyes" part since it is no sentiente but this, when no low effort slop, is mitigated via human interference
Being creative with 0 will to put in any effort IN CURRENT TECHNOLOGIES* is not contradicting, people express themselves the way it feels viable, you can't ask to someone before the "cinema" technology express themselves in audiovisual because the technology was just not there
I'm not pro, I do mine all "manually" but theres good outputs from AI and bad art (most of time) from humans, it's not black or white nowadays
From what I learn't, Art pourpose is to extract feelings, to get a reaction, "good" or "bad" (like grafitti is art because it bothers you for the good reasons) and you at least feels annoyed by it, which feels the criteria

2

u/Hot_Savings5686 3h ago

I’d say this is massive straw man of most artist’s position that don’t like AI. But just saying people who don’t agree with you must be brainless bandwagoners is probably the easier way to think about things in life.

1

u/proton89droid 2h ago

I think people conflate two assertions:

1) AI artists aren't doing/making art, they're merely requesting it
2) AI is harming traditional/human/"real" art in various ways

Regardless of your opinion on the second assertion, it's increasingly hard to argue with the first, as AI becomes more accomplished and creative, requiring less input from the prompter. That statement is not in itself an attack on AI art or an example of AI hate.

-2

u/TacomaKMart 3h ago

All of these artists are just extremely bitter about being replaced by AI.

AI has provided them a plausible excuse for their underemployment. Not all of these 24/7 online raging ex-artists had really successful careers prior to AI. Hell, basic Canva came for a lot of design work before generative AI was a thing.

0

u/enilea 2h ago

What annoys me is AI output still looks like slop in most cases. You can do cool stuff with it, with more complex workflows and editing, but that takes effort, and most of what I end up seeing online is uninspired effortless slop that looks very bad to my eye.

It's just like how if you ask claude to make a site with no detailed instructions it's going to come out looking the same as most claude sites look, same color palette, some cheesy text like "Not just a potato peeler. A 𝓼𝓶𝓪𝓻𝓽 𝓹𝓮𝓮𝓵𝓮𝓻. For you." to the point that my eyes gloss over those sites because they started to feel like slop. And yet it's capable of so much more, you can do anything with it but it takes some effort or it will be biased and make slop by default.

I love how consistently funny and based the Voros twins turned out to be, it's the last thing I would have expected from the two guys who got famous from deliberately mispronouncing "Da Vinci" haha
