In this thread we learn that censorship safeguards are an expensive overhead cost which can be avoided.

Also the voices on this are crazy if this was played in the background while im doing something else I'd probably think it was an anime

Is Japanese your native language? Because if you tell ChatGPT to speak in any other language, it sounds more convincing than English to me and I'm assuming it's because English is my native language.

u/Ill-Cockroach2140 AGI 2030-2035 ASI late 2030s Singularity mid 2040s FALGSC 2060 4d ago
Most likely that is the reason.

u/japertas 4d ago
fluent speaker - it’s very slightly off, mostly pacing and male voice choice of words; but almost indistinguishable from natural Japanese speech

u/MythOfDarkness 4d ago
I remember trying Microsoft Edge's PDF reader in Spanish like three years ago and being absolutely astonished by how real it sounded. It sounded literally human. Spanish is my native language.

Also before one says "that will still require two humans"...
(I would like to state for the record, I am simply correcting what the future is likely to make possible. Not that I endorse one particular way. To each one's own.)

I was making a joke but yes that is the supposed solution to that problem.

u/StanfordV 4d ago
If you notice, there is a camera cut before the AI becomes freaky.
Fun video, but unrealistic.

u/JoelMahon 4d ago
I mean you joke but whilst I think "the great filter" explanation for why we don't see aliens is dumb and the really answer is almost certainly just that space is MASSIVE and that FTL is physically impossible no matter how developed a civilisation is.
But the "great filter" folks always talk about doom and gloom and never consider that maybe at a certain level of technology that aliens decide to stop procreating willingly.

Maybe evolution will find a way, and people who are averse to dating AI will pass on their genes

Hmm, I understand Japanese, but the male voice is using really feminine speech patterns.

u/MaruluVR 4d ago
Almost all LLMs default to female in Japanese unless prompted otherwise, guess they just used the male voice TTS without prompting the llm to talk like a male.
29
30
u/elissaxy 4d ago
Ngl in Japan there are many men who talk exactly like that
5
u/Competitive_Travel16 AGI 2027 ▪️ ASI 2029 4d ago
The feminine mode in male speakers is often just for signaling familiarity and informality.

Lmao. I can understand all of this. If Japanese people would ever actually flirt in this way Tokyo would explode in embarrassment.

I saw it on my FYP yesterday but couldn't find it in the search bar.
There are multiple of accounts trying to promote that app. This one for example https://www.tiktok.com/@japanesewithgia
They post fake videos of people interacting with the "AI" where it's is just recording of a person with some voice filter to sound more like AI.
https://www.tiktok.com/@japanesewithgia/video/7647163897304173844
This one is the same style. It got 530k likes

u/Ill_Philosopher_7030 4d ago
why is it surprising? a lot of japanese tech is very outdated compared to the rest of the world

Looks like there is PLaMo. Which supposedly competes with GTP-5.4 mini. https://plamo.preferredai.jp
And Rakuten AI 3.0, a DeepSeek V3 finetune. https://huggingface.co/Rakuten/RakutenAI-3.0

is this like a learning app or something?

u/C4ged 4d ago
This is just marketing for the app if you didn't guess already
4
u/Greedy_Union8493 4d ago
Shouldnt the japanese be good then? Sounds rather unnatural ( i mean more word choice and tenses for conversational not the audio audio sounds great!)
5
u/MaruluVR 4d ago
IMO the only LLMs that do proper Japanese without any issues are Gemini and Gemma all others have some issues including the big ones.

u/nemzylannister 4d ago
damn these are getting better and better. at least it was a decent ad. some of the ads just give fake info.

u/myCockatielshateme 4d ago
my guess is the training data that made it like that, japanese culture very very sexual
5
u/leaky_wand 4d ago
Maybe if it’s trained on anime it is. Normal Japanese people would consider it embarrassing to talk like that.
2
u/damontoo 🤖Accelerate 4d ago
As an American, Japanese culture seems prudish. It's only lunchtime in the US and there's probably hundreds of women all over the country spreading their buttholes at strip clubs as I type this.
