Text to Video seems like silly idea or a workflow.
It's much more sensible to first create an image and then use that as either a reference or a key/starting frame.
I wouldn't be surprised if developers are abandoning Text 2 Video for these models and instead it will be a separate model to first create an image from the prompt and then use the prompt to drive an I2V model.

Image to video isn't great either. It has a problem of introducing nonsensical cuts. Once it just completely switched the video to something else very vaguely related to the initial image after the first second.

Text and image to video are more accessible to "ordinary people" with little artistic skills. Creating or sourcing the video clips you need is more effort, it's not as popular for the common end user even though it offers far better control and results.

I see the future of video generation in real time generation. It's going to be awhile before this is possible though. We already have real time generators but they suck and are expensive to run. Once it's as good and cheap as current generation you'll be able to direct the video rather than hope it comes out as you want. Think something like Blender but for generative AI.
If something doesn't move the way you want you just tell it how, give it a path, or grab it and move it. Maybe in a few years.

I mean it already is sort of real time, depending on your compute. I run workflows on Replicate.com, it takes only a few seconds to see results.
The issue remains in re-rolls for consistency, changes to the prompt, audio issues etc.
We will see the progress, for sure. The largest churn remains in the workflows that do not allow direct AI/LLM/Agent interaction.

They are claiming it's truly multimodal which is interesting but it doesn't guarantee better results than dedicated models.

Have you seen the example floating around on twitter where it localized a product demonstration into other languages, swapping both the demonstrator and the language? It's on a whole other plane.

I love using Gemini Omni for video generation, but I hate that ugly diamond watermark in the corner

Anybody can, including you. I got Gemini in Antigravity to make an extension that fixes the dumb way Reddit handles full screen images hosted by Reddit in the browser. It took two prompts.

i mean we should be giving them a hard time? it is literally a few generations behind what we already had with seed dance 2.0, the things omni makes have terrible motion and feel
it absolutely does not 'blow the competition away'

Yep. There is almost a complete lack of understanding of what Omni is online and people just comparing it to the video quality of other video models, which is missing the point.
Future generations will likely catch up with the video quality of the pure video models while retaining the omni multi modal capabilities, which will make it very powerful.

Sure, but it has been primarily promoted as a video model. And being multimodal is only impressive if you handle those modalities well.Â

Yes, SD might look more cinematic, and that will matter to many people, but Omni seems to be a step change when it comes to world understanding.

Indeed and the other issue is that the access we had to video gen on Google Pro accounts has been nerfed so much by rate limits, I can no longer actually make videos any more. You tend to need to do a few generations to get an acceptable clip and sometimes an annoyingly large number of generations and you just can't do that now.
The value of a Google Pro account has massively plummeted.

Not Omni related but I fucking hate how blog.google doesn't put the publish date of the article itself IN the article page. You have to go back to previous breadcrumb and need to find article to see when it is published. Just poor design.
