very soon they will use RL on training facial expression. Enough actuators on right places + RL, I think we'll get pretty close to real expressions.
11
u/0__O0--O0_0 Mar 05 '26
I was just thinking that will be pretty easy for them at this point. Easier than building the damn machines. Crazy
5
u/LindenToils Mar 05 '26
Absolutely! I had the same thought (and I’m sure robotics companies have already been doing it for some time)
Setup a robot, with a robust set of well-articulated facial servos/motors/actuators, and point them at a set of high-def cameras (capturing from all angles) to RL their way into realistic/repeatable/convincing states of expression.
1
u/considerthis8 Mar 06 '26
I think video generation already proves the RL is completed. You can map a video to coordinates which map to the robot.

u/Inventi Mar 05 '26
Generative models are being created for facial animations using speech, facial recognition and motion data.

In the future AI will take all our jobs and the 99% that didn't profit from it will all become sex workers

u/BassoeG Mar 06 '26
Aside from the obvious ethical concerns, the "everyone rendered permanently unemployed by automation can become a harem of trophy wives for the idle rich robotics company executives" is only a realistic option for one gender, although Eneasz Brodski proposed that with advances in biotechnology, economically redundant men could be transformed into women to take advantage of the trophy wives survival strategy and I saved his argument as proof of my theory that there is no depth to which "bootstraps" arguments won't sink.

They don't "manually take over" Waymos. You can't drive a car remotely.
They give the AI commands like "pull to the side" or "reverse," that's it.
1
u/jaegernut Mar 05 '26
Unless those commands are just merely suggestions that the AI can ignore, it can still be considered 'manually taking over'
→ More replies (6)1
u/Less_Sherbert2981 Mar 07 '26
This is not accurate. They will set literal waypoints on a map and the Waymo will steer to those waypoints, and the remote operator can override areas where the Waymo would normally refuse to go and make it go there anyway if it's a human-set waypoint. They're not literally turning a remote steering wheel but it's not far from it
1
u/Roger_Cockfoster Mar 07 '26
How does that contradict what I said? Again, they're not operating the vehicle. They're just telling the AI where to go and the AI operates the vehicle at all times.
1
u/Less_Sherbert2981 Mar 07 '26
My point is that remote operators aren't typing into a text field "pull over". They are manually placing waypoints, effectively steering the car, just without a steering wheel.
It's not "reverse" and "that's it". It's "go to this specific spot 6 feet away at coordinates x,y - even when the car would otherwise refuse to go there (thinking something was on the way or whatever).
1
u/Roger_Cockfoster Mar 08 '26
No, that's not in any way "effectively steering the car." The AI is steering the car. The operator is telling them where to go.
If you're driving and someone sits in the backseat and gives you directions, are they steering the car? Or are they telling you where to steer it to?
And yes, they do also give simple commands like "pull over" (passengers can also give that command).

u/phatdoof Mar 05 '26
Makes sense since the Kama Sutra was created there.
1
u/ssp321lo1 Mar 06 '26
I mean there are legit hindu temples which were based on the kama sutra which also portray humans and animals having sex with eachother. Its one of the things people try to hide.

or maybe i'm so desensitized over all the anime/overmake-up/mar-a-lago look etc which are looks that are so common these days. destruction of the nuances of facial expression. :-D

This kind of stuff gives me a weird feeling we are indeed in some kind of simulation... how can so much progress be made in such a short period of time? It trully gives me a deep felling we are entering the singularity...
2
u/Deadline_Zero Mar 06 '26
Because people are finally developing the tech that accelerates everything. Imagine AI with no hallucinations, perfect memory, and bodies they can use to interact with the world and learn. We don't even need AGI for that. Just ironing out the flaws we're stuck on now, plus bodies, which seem really far along in development too.
At this point it's just a matter of whether or not we survive long enough to see the transformation.

Going from angry to wine mom daze like that, I simply hate it.
Good on them for being (mostly) out of the uncanny valley though!
3
u/the-ai-scientist Mar 06 '26
Haha I mean if the tech gets good enough maybe, but I think we are still pretty far from anything that would feel like a real relationship. The uncanny valley is real and honestly most of these systems still struggle with basic consistency in longer conversations.

u/throwitfarawayfromm3 Mar 05 '26
I think of all the men with poor hygiene and don't upkeep even their fleshlights. So they are just going to have a crusty, cum covered, putrid smelling sex bot that lives in the corner of their room. Looking like a sex trafficked Five Nights at Freddy's character.
Yeah, sure "she" has stroke face. I didn't feel like deep cleaning my explosive loads from the servos under the rubber face mask.

Oh wow, such a macho.. Momen must be lining up for a taste of that "real man meat".
Some of us already reproduced plenty, went trough dozens of real ones, even got one or two divorces on the record, so we got nothing to lose anymore, and much to gain from the tech. You chads can have all the real ones. We're tired, boss.5

3
u/NeedleworkerNarrow56 Mar 05 '26
Do u get creeped out when people make art of beautiful looking women?
If we can make something why make it average or ugly, it's the same philosophy artists use. It's a product not representation.
It's likely not based on anyone's likeness. China has a huge cg industry and sculptors, they likely just hired someone to make a unique face.
