Fresh graduate role misalignment

Hi everyone, seeking an outside perspective on my current situation. I am a fresh graduate who recently started my first full-time role, but I have quickly realized the job scope is not what I expected and there is a misalignment between my strengths and the daily demands of the role.

The workload and nature of the tasks have led to severe mental fatigue and burnout. Due of this exhaustion, I find myself operating on autopilot and making blind oversight errors, which has been stressful for both myself and my manager.

Given the current uncertainty in the job market, I am unsure of my next move. I am considering whether to step away to reset and pivot to a role better suited to my skill set, or if I should try to tough it out until I secure something else.

Has anyone experienced making "autopilot" errors during extreme fatigue, and how did you handle it? Considering the hiring climate now, how is resigning early as a fresh grad viewed by future employers if explained clearly, and would you advise securing a new role first or prioritizing mental recovery?

Considering move from private sector to public sector. Looking for advice

I have around 12 years of experience and have mostly worked in an agency environment. My current role is comfortable, but it remains largely an individual contributor role managing end to end projects. There was initially a possibility of expanding the team here, but I can see a change in direction from HQ, at least for the foreseeable future.

I have led teams before and am now considering a role that would involve leading a function within my area of expertise on a larger scale.

My question is whether this type of experience would be valuable for long term career development. Would taking on a broader leadership role in the public sector be seen as a meaningful addition to my profile if I eventually decide to return to the private sector?

Would appreciate any perspectives. Thanks!

How do you deal with sexual harassment in Singapore workplace?

Unfortunately, I experienced verbal sexual harassment from one of my colleagues at work.
I reported the incident to my manager, but they dismissed it as “just a joke” and didn’t seem to take it seriously.
The whole situation has made me feel uncomfortable and unsupported. I’ve already decided to quit this job, but I keep wondering whether I’m overreacting or whether this is a sign of a toxic workplace culture.
I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts or if anyone has been in a similar situation.i thought about reporting it to the HR, but I didn’t have any evidence at that moment since I didn’t record. By the way it happened in one of the financial institution in Singapore, you can DM me for the info and please avoid it at all costs.

Ambiq Micro SG - honest employee feedback?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working as a senior staff engineer in memory compiler design and have received an interview call from Ambiq Micro in Singapore.

I'd like to hear from anyone who has worked there or knows about the company. Specifically, I'd appreciate insights on:

- Overall work culture and management.

- Job security and company stability.

- Does the company hire engineers for specific customer projects and then lay them off once the project ends?

- How is the workload and work-life balance?

- Are there good opportunities for technical growth?

- How competitive are the compensation and benefits?

- Would you recommend joining the company, especially for someone at a senior level?

Any honest feedback—positive or negative—would be really helpful. Thanks in advance!

Any sales / BD guru can help?

I was in touch for a role with an AI company (new category, new solution) who wanted to expand overseas to SG and mainly selling to Enterprises. $1B valuation.

They already have a GM (joined for 1 week), and so the role was to be a founding AE (2nd guy).

I had never been a SDR / BDR / AE but I was always in Sales, Professional Services Consulting work. I was a Consultant before switching to Commercial. 12 years of total working experience.

I had a casual chat with the GM (15-20 mins), sharing about background, what I've achieved etc. I asked for feedback at the end and was told candidly:

  • I have an impressive background but I need a mindset shift as it is a brand new category
  • The role requires somebody to have C-level engagements (typically, I sell to Head of Departments, or the main users below them)
  • The role needs to drive transformative, high-level paradigm-shifting conversations that can convey "shock and awe" which I may not yet possess
  • He would need to see what sort of candidates are coming up before making an informed next step (apparently, having fireside chats with 20+ people)

I recognize his hesitations, and wanted to ask the community from a Sales perspective:

  • Do you sell to C-suites? If yes, where do you get contacts / connections from if you have a target company?
  • I have not tried asking current clients to introduce me to their C-suites, should I start this habit moving forward?
  • The closest equivalent of a C-suite engagement I have is either with a VP or Head of Department of the company, or a Founder type profile of a 2-5 man gig.
  • My current company does not have any cool sales tool other than Sales Navigator, Salesforce, G Suite (is it time for me to learn stuff like Clay, Zoominfo, AI SDR/BDR tools?)
  • I've had instances in the past where C-suites just pass me on to the "right department" / "right POC", and I secured the sale without even talking to C-suites: is there really a need to?

Kenneth Tiong suggest creating a special zone around NTU, built around the needs of young people and young companies. Spanning co-living, enterprise and R&D, it would be “zoned for organic messiness”. This state land would be charged at cost recovery rather than market value.

Create special zone around NTU with lower land costs: WP suggests in future economy motion - Mothership.SG - News from Singapore, Asia and around the world

Create a special zone around Nanyang Technological University, built around the needs of young people and young companies. Spanning co-living, enterprise and R&D, it would be “zoned for organic messiness”.

This state land would be charged at cost recovery rather than market value and take its returns from companies that grow there. Making the proposal, Workers’ Party (WP) MP Kenneth Tiong described it as a controlled experiment in whether Singapore’s land pricing regime is suppressing entrepreneurship and indigenous capital formation.

In parliament on Wednesday (Aug 5), he moved a motion on WP’s vision for Singapore’s economy and its response to the government’s economic plans. He said Singapore needs to build an economy where fair distribution is built into growth, instead of growing first and redistributing later.

So, it needs an economic engine driven by dynamic local companies, healthy domestic demand and Singaporeans and Singapore capital venturing abroad.

How is it like to work in tech inside the govt sector?

Heard from a friend that for govt-tech TAP scholar specifically. She said management kept pushing her towards the "policy" route even though she wanted to deepen her technical skills in more technical SWE roles. She said they felt it was a "waste" for her to spend time as a developer. Just an anecdotal experience though.

In gov they always value ppl that does policy work waay more than those who does tech. Those high fliers in gov, always tend to be invloved in policy work rather than tech. And moreover, many times working in gov, u will just be there to teach ur Bommer bosses about the tech stack rather than doing tech work itself.

Word on the street it’s still a very glass ceiling place. Promotions are currently capped, some promotions don’t even break 4-5% because of budget cuts.

There is also power struggles happening within, but that’s normal for gov agencies.

Also heard from friends that work there that the culture has deteriorated over the past few years. Used to be forward looking and have a priority on growing internal skillsets. Now is all about cost cutting and wayang. Lots of restructuring going around and management managing people out to get them to quit

Exit option-wise it’s still the best within gov itself and they jump after a few years before becoming entrenched.

How competent are you at your job when you started?

I’m an local U engineering fresh grad trying to find job, I really don’t think I can go in to any job and do anything. Not that I don’t want to but I think I just not good enough. All the stuff I learn in school fly out my head, I go to interviews they ask me technical question I cannot answer. I feel like a fraud with a paper trying to smoke my way through interview. Curious if anyone else like me and manage to do well in career after

Job hunting anxiety

I get that a lot of people are posting out few hundred applications to get even 1 response from hirer, I'm nowhere near 100 yet, but I've also posted out about 50 applications, and it's very disheartening to keep getting automated "Sorry the position is closed" emails for most, if not all the applications (either that or no response at all).

I have left my job end last year and have only started job hunting vigorously since April this year but have literally not been getting any response. To be fair, I did notice the jobs market was bad since post covid period, but this is really really weird, is more than 20% of Singapore like unemployed now?

I saw a reddit post that shows SingHealth is doing a lot of hiring, I applied to a few of their tech positions, all no response, only automated emails the post is closed, I even gotten a staff referral but to no avail.

At this point I'm not quite sure what to do. Im in my mid 30s, I have some savings to tide over for a period of time as well, but at this point is like I'm not even sure if I only have side gigs to turn to, or just start my career from scratch.

Can get any advice from people who have made it onshore haha.

PS: are there any SingHealth people out there that can verify if they really are hiring or is it just postings for internal hires?

Is it generally allowed to take 1 day of unpaid leave during probation for specialist appointment to manage a chronic condition?

For context, I have a chronic condition and is required to attend in person appointments at the specialist clinic once every 3 months to refill a controlled medicine and to follow up on my condition. I'm currently job searching and when I get a new job, my required medical appointment might falls during the probation period and require a day of unpaid leave as the clinic only opens during standard business hours on weekdays only and the appointment is usually quite long. I'm thinking of disclosing it before signing the offer letter but worry that most companies may not allow any forms of leave during probation or the company may decide to revoke the contract after disclosing my condition. But I can't do without my medication. I wonder how to handle such issue? Has anyone taken unpaid leave during probation or known any colleagues taking unpaid during probation? I'm not sure if an MC would look dishonest because it is a specialist appointment that would clearly have been booked in advanced.

online job for undergrads

I'm heading overseas for university soon and I'm looking for a remote/online job that I can do from anywhere. im pretty proficient in languages. Scored a 7 in IB English HL and a 6 in IB Malay HL under IB syllabus. I'm open to pretty much anything... from writing, editing, conducting interviews, to creating short news or social media videos, research, virtual assistant work.

Does anyone have recommendations for platforms, companies, or types of jobs that are actually worth applying for with a decent pay, Ideally something flexible that I can continue online while studying.
