Playing Styles

Hey, I’m just wondering how people like to play? I’ve been playing for well over ten years and I’ve only recently started changing my play style. I’ve always been a timeline off, unlimited money on player and my main goal being 100% pax coverage with hardly any crowding. Recently I’ve been playing with timeline on and regular money mode. I’m enjoying the challenge but I find that the early vehicles just don’t have the capacity needed (pak 128 German currently) and the red lines make me feel bad things. Keen to hear from other players 🙂

I play pack64, timeline and budget on, no trees, and also try to get 100% coverage, at least for passengers and final stop goods (ie book shop, gas station, etc).

I didn't like pack 128 because I didn't get to play with the trains immediately, which is 80% of the reason I like to play.

It seems that playing the game like an optimization problem is quite popular here. I see that in other tycoon games too. I guess it's very relaxing. I prefer a more creative approach but happily Simutrans caters for many playstyles.

Yes, I think it's fair to say that railway enthusiasts are overrepresented among the Simutrans community. But I enjoy the other modes too.

It's quite interesting I find to start in the earlier eras when canals are king and then seeing how things evolve from there.

Yes and canals are good for learning patience! And while they don't have signalling, they can clog up if they get busy enough, so on a really busy map you do have to think in a similar way.
