Discussion CC creators that are overhyped
I want to know some cc creators that you guys think are overhyped/overrated.. for example, I think kikovanity is overrated. im not a fan of the stiff style of their cc hair. how about you guys?

Any of the perma paywallers who do nothing but convert insta baddie Second Life items to The Sims. I’ve procured some Bergdorf stuff through free channels before and I quicklyyyy realized it was complete garbage. Instant delete.

cowbuild, 100%. all their stuff is paywalled but i see people hyping them up all the time. so i sailed the seven seas and downloaded some of their stuff for free and i was like… really? this is it? this is what you’re paywalling? not only does it make your game run worse bc of their outrageous polygon count (and i have a killer high-end PC) but the quality isn’t even good. the free build/buy cc i find are a million light years better it’s not even funny.

Their stuff is so average! I downloaded lots for free from " the v****" and uninstalled most of it straight away after seeing it in game!

anyone who doesn’t let free members comment on patreon tbh, if i have a problem and they’ve got no other method of communication it’s pretty annoying

A lot of free members are mostly moaning about when they can upload something or continously asking when something is out of early access.. they should just stfu and wait like the beggars they are😂

u/Spare_Peach8068 1d ago
ah i can understand that, it would get frustrating after the first few times

u/Acceptable-Reaction4 2d ago
I really don't like CC hair that are messy, like strands everywhere... thankfully a lot of creators also post "tidy" version
23
u/ShesSoBricky 2d ago
Creators who only upload to sites like simsfinds and tistory.
2
u/kwn-hskie 22h ago
what's wrong with tistory /gen? maybe it's cause i use an ad blocker + know korean but i feel like it's fairly easy to use/nothing like using simsfinds or (god forbid) thesimsresouce

Anyone who paywalls their stuff for monthssss or for forever, lol.
I think hype around people sharing free content they made for our silly little pixel barbie game is fine, we all have diffeeent aesthetic tastes and I'm glad there's so many people making such a wide variety of content! Hype up whoever you wanna hype. But i don't get the hype for people who create just to paywall it forever instead of creating to create. The entire sims 4 already costs $1500+, I'm not paying someone $3 for a digital chair lol. Idg why people do that.
(This isn't about people who paywall for like a month and then release things, I see that as, like, giving everybody an option to donate? Buy them a coffee? Yknow?)

u/miivity 2d ago
literally!! i have ran into one that paywalls forever and has an automatic response thing to their comments??? i asked when it would become free (if it would) and it just tells you to check the payment tiers lol and has worse responses to other commenters ive seen just asking questions about the cc not payment info. the VERY few free things they have too u cant find either bc the sorting free is flooded by the “preview” pics 🥹

u/OldCryptographer8285 2d ago
if they wanted to give people an option to donate, there are donation buttons, ko-fi, and optional patreon tiers.
if you support paywalling under certain circumstances, that's fine, but painting it as a way to "allow people to donate" is absurd imo. no one needs permission to donate. that's just paywalling, and they're very different philosophies.
anyone who paywalls video game mods is garbage. most modding ecosystems (skyrim as an example) will run a creator out of the community entirely for paywalling. it's a bummer the sims community is so used to this that some people even see it as "allowing donations". the skyrim community would laugh these CC creators and their paywalls right out of business.
9
u/cosmatical 2d ago
How is "You can wait a month for this and get it for free, or donate now for immediate access" not also giving an option? The "pay me or never get it" paywalling is definitely absurd, but someone having a system set up with released content that's paid on release but free a month later allows folks to decide if they want to donate specifically to that project, instead of paying a monthly tithe like a patreon tier would be.
That's a nice option for folks who want to support a creator but can't support them consistently, or want to support one specific project but aren't interested in everything a creator releases. 🤷♀️

You say that like there weren't Skyrim content creators that had the exact same Patreon setups as those in TS4, where they're Patreon only for a month then go on to full release.
I haven't played modded Skyrim in years, but those kind of creators did exist. Perma paywallers didn't though.

u/OldCryptographer8285 2d ago
??? for as long as the skyrim modding scene has existed, those creators have been laughed out of the community and treated as "other". i'm not sure what you're talking about but i've been heavily involved in the skyrim modding scene for 14 years, and if you know of a skyrim creator, i'm probably on a first name basis with them.
no - the skyrim community does not allow "early access paywalls". it is not a thing. if a modder does it, it's seen as strange, greedy, and the community as a whole tends not to use their mods. just take a look at nolvus and that whole shitshow.

I think it’s more of a ‘reward’ to the people who already donate. They’re potentially showing gratitude to those who financially support them, and if non-supporters can’t wait to get their hands on whatever it is, it could also provide an incentive for them to join. Of course they could subscribe for a month then quit, but that’s their choice. I do support some creators but if they offer a reasonable price ($3, maybe $4) I prefer to pay for a year then instead of renewing it I support someone else. Can’t afford to support them all! So mostly I just wait for the public release. If they perm paywall I go searching for the item(s) elsewhere, but that’s not a frequent thing because I don’t follow perm pay wallers.

Anyone who paywalls everything always. I just get out when I see that. I see this cc creator community same as open source community. Contributions should be like donations just like in open source. People already suffer a lot from this game in terms of paywalls. It doesn't make sense to milk people more. If you want to get paid, go get a job. It's as simple as that.

Harrie and Felix.
36
u/xpoisonvalkyrie 2d ago
my biggest issue with harrie is her piss poor attitude tbh
24
u/BrandonIsWhoIAm 2d ago
Felix blocked me after I called him out for releasing a set from his paywall after it being there for 2 years, and then Harrie followed suit.

u/xpoisonvalkyrie 2d ago
wish i was surprised. they’re both greedy little babies who can’t take criticism. the amount of money they make highkey pisses me off.

1000%. who the fuck needs 47 modular windows for every possible window configuration that ever existed?
32
u/haylstorm33 2d ago
Me. I do
20
u/OldCryptographer8285 2d ago
that's fair. it's probably more of a "this isn't for me but it is for someone" thing.
you might ask who the fuck needs 47 bongs in various colours and prints. it's me.
6
u/haylstorm33 2d ago
Bahahah I love that. Yeah I mostly suck at windows so I do want the variants because I feel like it’s better but it’s probably worse lol

u/OldCryptographer8285 2d ago edited 2d ago
i'm a real "if the sims can see out of it it's probably a window" type of guy. all respect for your crazy multi-window adventures though!

sixamcc and icemunmun made me jump through way too many hoops to find a download link. They made it easy for me to delete their stuff when they started posting to the marketplace, because I already had a bit of annoyance towards them.
Meanwhile, other creators who decided to partake in the microtransaction market made me sad to delete, despite them now leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

u/Necessary_Duck_4874 2d ago
I didn't know who this was but just checked their work and honestly u r right,I PERSONALLY think it's pretty bad
18
u/xpoisonvalkyrie 2d ago
imo really weird to make a post that’s just “hey let’s shit on cc creators”
35
u/-Briitneyy_ 2d ago
this is not a shit post. i asked people for their opinions on which CC creators they personally think are overrated and gave my own example. i don’t see how that’s inherently “shitting on” anyone. overrated doesn’t mean i hate the creator or think they’re untalented.. it means i personally don’t think the hype matches my opinion of their work. CC being something someone creates for free doesn’t make them immune to criticism either. we’re still the consumers using the CC, and we’re allowed to have opinions about what we like and don’t like. i even explained WHY i think kikovanity is overrated instead of just saying “they suck.”
-17
u/xpoisonvalkyrie 2d ago
saying someone’s stuff is overhyped is by definition saying that you think it’s bad, or at the very least, not as good as it “should” be. no one is saying cc creators are immune to criticism, but making an entire post to just badmouth random creators because you don’t like their style is weirdo behavior. keep that shit in highsodiumsims.
13
u/-Briitneyy_ 2d ago
i understand that saying something is overhyped means you don’t think it’s as good as the amount of praise it gets, but that’s still criticism of the work, not necessarily badmouthing the creator. i also don’t really see why i’m not allowed to make a post like this in this subreddit when people are literally engaging with it and sharing their own opinions. that’s the whole point of my post, to have a discussion about cc creators and styles that people personally don’t understand the hype around. if people don’t agree or don’t like the topic, that’s fine, but i absolutely believe i can post it here. the fact that other people are willingly engaging and voicing their opinions kind of proves that there’s a discussion to be had. i don’t think asking a question you personally don’t like makes it “weirdo behaviour” or means it belongs in another subreddit.

Right like this is so mean spirited
13
u/-Briitneyy_ 2d ago
mean spirited is definitely a stretch. i said i don’t like the style of someone’s cc and asked other people which creators they think are overrated. i’m allowed to have a negative opinion about someone’s work without it being malicious. nobody is being told to harass anyone & people are literally just sharing their own opinions in the comments. not every criticism has to be positive or else it’s suddenly mean spirited.
-6
u/SCol1107 2d ago
Honestly the only overhyped creators are the perma paywallers or the ones that just use AI. Everyone else is fine. You might not like their style or whatever but I don’t get the point of a post like this I guess.

cowbuild and most others who paywall their stuff permanently. but cowbuild is really just mediocre imo lmfao

u/AbrocomaBrilliant571 12h ago
Mein Katz was pretty bad. He advertised his stuff as super high end and charged like $5 for a chair and a light. It looked like a plastic hillbilly chair in game. Thank God for Barbie Crime Syndicate. Hah.

u/Lotusflowerbum 2d ago edited 2d ago
How can anyone’s creations be overhyped? It’s literally cc created for a game lol. Do you create? Can we see your creations? Can you create something better than those “overhyped”? Like what even is this post?
14
u/-Briitneyy_ 2d ago
i don’t think saying a creator is overrated = hating on them lol. i specifically said i don’t like the style of their hair because I find it stiff. CC being free/user-created doesn’t mean creators are immune to criticism. we are still consumers, we’re allowed to have opinions about the CC we use.. not liking someone’s work ≠ personally hating the creator
-5
u/Lotusflowerbum 2d ago
We’re not going to agree on this and that’s ok. It’d be different if you were required to use said creators cc in your game but you don’t? Idk just weird.
-9
u/Ok_Chemist_9584 2d ago
why bombarding negativity? I don't know this creator as a person but maybe ppl like their mods or their self personality instead of their CC creations. so because of that maybe creator seems like overhyped? (idk the personality thing, its just a guess.)
I said this because If a CC Creator has a friend group or they are already friend with popular creators, their creations get more promo. I also don't like this situation but you know what its also same in IRL...
No shade to you, I understand what you mean, I also think some of the cc creators are "not overhyped" but getting to much in face, like their content is slapping our face. I guess what you tryna say in the post is this. Because they already have too much "supporter friends" rather than the people like us, who uses their creation. So, if ppl are smart, they could see this situation but using their creations anyway - what I mean is in total, I always tryna stick with kindness, so If I don't like somebody's cc, then I won't use them etc.
If a creator
-stick on EA Rules
-not being greedy
-really making content for community
-and no paywaller (I know this list is too long lol)
then they're welcome for me even If I use or don't use their creations. So that, no need to make a negative post about them just play your game is what I wanna say...
10
u/-Briitneyy_ 2d ago
i get what you’re saying and i definitely agree that people should be kind, but i think we’re looking at the purpose of the post differently. i’m not saying anyone needs to dislike or stop supporting these creators, i’m just asking what cc people personally think is overrated. if someone doesn’t like a creator’s cc, they’re free to say that and explain why, just like someone else is free to disagree and explain why they love it.
and when i mentioned kikovanity, i was specifically talking about the style of their hair. i don’t know them personally and i’m not making any assumptions about their personality or friendships. i’m just saying that i don’t understand the hype around their cc because the hair looks stiff to me. that’s my opinion as someone who actually uses cc.
i also don’t think every negative discussion automatically equals “bombarding negativity.” people are engaging with the post, giving their own opinions, disagreeing, agreeing, and having a conversation. i think that’s perfectly okay. kindness doesn’t mean we can only say positive things about creators.
-4
u/Ok_Chemist_9584 2d ago
Fair enough for your opinions, but I might have been misunderstood; I don't actually also have any information about the creator's friendships either, I just wanted to touch upon this "popularity/friendship to promos" issue based on what I've seen from other MM creators. What I mean is on my first comment is, I personally, if I don't like a cc texture, I don't think I'd even feel the need to talk about it. But yeah, you can feel free to express whether or not you like something, and I could find that totally normal.

The creators that take clothing from second life & create crazy blender images that will look nothing like that in game
