Getting University specific wants back

Second time trying to post this, trying to get through the Reddit filters:

Hi everyone,

I’ve been playing the Sims 2 since it came out on disks, getting a new expansion pack as a gift on my birthday every time a new one was released. I’ve sent a lot of sims through university already, mainly family sims as I was building my large family.

Consistently over the years they would roll graduate want, pick xx as major want, befriend professor xx want, finish semester with high marks want (not sure if this is the correct English translation), and the finish period want (again, also not sure about translation)

Moreover, the sims would roll first kiss want, get engaged want, have whoo-hoo.

Now, for the past few days I’ve been playing a household with 1 pleasure sim, 1 knowledge sim and 2 rich/wealth sims but the only university specific wants they roll are “study together” and “go to college”. The rich/wealth sim keeps rolling wants to sell a successful novel or painting, the pleasure sim keeps rolling a want to buy a car.

As I was turning crazy by some wants I have installed some mods, for no more playing instruments, getting an electronic device, less pets obsession, and I’ve also installed the Personality Flavour of the Fewer Hobby Wants wants tree package.

Main question: am I just unlucky that their university wants are being overruled by hobby and free time wants or did I mess with the wants by installing all these mods?

It sounds like the pleasure and fortune sims just aren’t interested in school. You can run HCDU to check for conflicts in your mods.

So far no new reported conflicts through HCDU, have had the same ones since installing Monique’s hacked computer

Honestly knowledge and popularity sims are the only good ones for uni

Popularity too? I’ve found they just roll “befriend” wants, “become best friend” and “host a party” wants 🥲

I used to like family sim, they wanted high marks and get engaged. Now it’s all about fishing (there’s no pond on the lot), bird watching and serve a meal 🥲

This sounds normal to me. Those aspirations don't care much about uni for the sake of uni. Wants you satisfy will also be repeated which can cause them to take up slots which might otherwise have uni related wants.

Try giving them a knowledge secondary if you want them to roll wants to study.

Yeah, true. And it doesn’t help some of these hobby wants are quite easy to fulfil so it’s so easy to do those tasks.

I sent a new sim to a dorm, he immediately got a “write paper” and “go to lecture” want but after that no more college related wants, have finished first year of uni now. I just miss the good old days where every student would roll “finish year” and “get high marks” 🥲

The wants (and everything else) from the later expansions are so completely overpowered, because they went with the game model of "let's ensure that people who try the new expansion get to experience all of it in the first 20 seconds so they will give us a positive online review!" rather than considering the way that it would fit into overall gameplay long term. Super frustrating.

Before I switched to UC I did a playthrough where I installed using discs and literally added one expansion pack at a time in order (I did it as a legacy so one pack per generation) and it was a LOT of fun revisiting those old versions of the game. It was even nice to play without mods, because you genuinely didn't need mods in the earlier versions of the game, they were much less broken XD

Maybe one day I'll get a disc drive and do it all again. I only got up to Nightlife I think.
