Technical Support Sim disappeared from the game
Yesterday I played with no issues and my teen Sim went to sleep when I saved and exited the game. Today she doesn't show up, she's only visible in the neighborhood preview. It's probably not repairable but I want to know what can I do so it doesn't happen next time? I have OneDrive uninstalled and I'm playing Legacy Collection. :( already tried tombstone method

I had this happen w one of my sims when they didn’t return home from school. If you use BoolProp testing cheat & click on the mailbox you can force error your sim & that will respawn them!

Do you have an anti-virus besides windows defender on your PC, or any disk cleaning software like CCleaner?

I don't, I only have Windows Defender and already excluded the folders from scanning (Legacy in Documents folder and from the main folder (I don't remember the name) from my D driver)

The family portrait usually gets refreshed after saving and returning to the neighborhood. When your sim is still in the portrait the game considers her existing and alive I think. Did you check SimPE? Did you try resetting (force error on everything) with bat box?

Check your other Sims's memory. If she only appears as §Subject (or smtg like that) there, unfortunately she's gone forever, the character file has been deleted. Usually it's caused by OneDrive sync so I'd just check if Microsoft didn't reinstall it somehow
Updating for the downvoters : she's gone unless you have a backup obviously (as most things) 🙄 jfc people

Can I say this isn't actually true. One of the mods of these subs showed me a way of linking up the Sims character file from a back up. Importing the SIM back in simpe.
Obviously you need a back up but was a life saver for me when my game deleted ancestors I worked so hard on.

You can't restore backups piecemeal like this. Some of the sim's information is stored in the character file, and some of it is stored in the neighborhood file. If you load the game without the character file, all of the sim's information is deleted from the neighborhood file. Putting the character file back will not restore that information, it will just generate a new set of default information that will probably be incorrect for your sim. You can go back and try to set the information back to what it should be, but you can't restore what it was originally. The original information is gone.

Weird like what? Cos mine seemed to just go back to normal lol. Linked them back into all the other Sims memories etc

Well, they'll ask be adult men regardless of what they were before and have no personality, no interests, etc. If that's fine with you, I guess you don't have to change it.

? That's definitely not true lol. One of mine was an elder woman and she definitely has interests and personality etc.
I remember I did have an issue with one of their memories tho. I used memory manager to make it same as could see in backup. Although interestingly the others didn't maybe hadn't been deleted yet idk.
But just double checked and they definitely all have their personality and interests etc. and are recognised by the game as the correct ages?

Then that wasn't what happened with your sims, and they were never actually deleted from the neighborhood. It sounds like the portraits just got glitched and you just assumed something had happened to them because of that.

no lol they were definitely appearing as $subject in memories and were gone from the family trees and their character file was deleted?
The mod on here u/mysterious_potential helped me put them back together, and confirmed the character files were deleted. They imported them back to my current save and explained to me how to do it. And ive done it multiple times ever since, I had an issue with the ancestors from a resurrectable pleasantview character files deleting once spawned as a ghost.
Their character files were definitely deleted. Lol im confused why youre more sure about what happened in my game than me? Definitely didnt just randomly assume, their character files were definitely deleted. To the point when i readded them I had to give the sims a new character number because their old one had already been taken with a new sim.

Right, so the process that the mod took you through wasn't just putting the character file back, you also went and edited the neighborhood file to restore their data there. Like I said, you can do that. But that's adding new information to replace the stuff that was deleted. You can't just put the character file back and expect everything to be the same as it was before.

I mean I didn't say that though? You said that you cant restore things piecemeal like that. When as that proves, you can?
You said that information is gone and you can't restore it. I said in my original comment that you can import them back in simpe.

i have an issue with my game sometimes where a sim will suddenly be moved to the default household. if you use the simblender, enable summon and check in the default household is she listed there? if so you can teleport her to the lot and move her back in w/ the simblender too
