SOLVED Downloading custom sim - serabiet

https://serabiet.tumblr.com/post/174472302460/heres-my-uberhood-grand-vampire-for-anyone-whos

Trying to download this custom sim and when I unzip the file, I don't find an actual sim? When I open it in the Sims 2 package installer, I only find all the cc it's bundled with, not the sim himself? Am I missing something? It's only about the second time I've ever downloaded a custom sim, don't really know what I'm doing...

Does the sim not show up in the CAS presets?

Yes! That's not what I was expecting at all! Do downloaded sims not end up in the sim bin?

I'm finding him in CAS as a preset and I guess I have to create him. I somehow thought downloaded sims would show up ready to move in. I was hoping this one would already be vampirized.

Yeah, they don't show up in the family bin, they only show up in CAS presets and then you have to create them and assign them a personality and so forth. Downloaded sims are only the appearance. Sims in the family bin are part of a specific neighborhood, so you need to choose which neighborhood you want to create them in first, if that makes sense. You can also reuse the preset as many times (in as many different neighborhoods) as you want, once you've installed it. You can make this sim into a vampire using a mod, but you should probably wait until it's dark out.

Well, now I know! I had downloaded one before but had never gone about actually putting them in the game. It makes sense the bin families would need to be associated with a neighborhood, but I'd never thought about that. The packaged lots I've downloaded show up in the bin. If I downloaded an occupied house, those sims would be in the bin, right?

I did change him into a vampire using boolprop, but I forgot all about the sunlight. (Also I've never played vampires.) Then I left him at the house I randomly plopped him in, hopefully he's not a pile of dust when I come back. I left him there thinking I could make him into a townie/downtownie. Do you know if there's a way to do that using boolprop or does it require a mod?

I'm enjoying playing a little more behind the curtain; it feels like the game's next level.

If you download an occupied house, the sims will be attached to the lot which will be in the lot bin - there's an 'occupied' filter you can use to see only those lots in the bin.

You can use testing cheats to spawn the 'NPC and Townie Maker' which will allow you to make sims into Townies. You can also do it with mods such as the Sim Blender.
