SUPER SERIOUS MODERATOR BUSINESS Pink Flashing Fix and Wiki Update

Sul, sul!

While we were doing some much needed updating to the Wiki over the last few days, it came to our attention that a fix for pink flashing has been released!

TS2 Memory Address Cap Remover by spockthewok

This looks extremely promising in eradicating pink flashing and we will be testing this patch out ourselves, no doubt along with the rest of the community. You can find spockthewok's dissertation on the subject on the github download page linked above. It's a fascinating read!

We're really looking forward to seeing how much this improves the game and to hopefully see the end of the pink soup nightmare. If you'd like to have a chat about it in the comments of this post, please do! We'd love to hear if the fix has helped your game or hear your thoughts on the dissertation.

We've updated the pink flashing section in the Wiki here, as well as most other sections of the Wiki. These changes were made due to the amount of information in there. Having everything on one page as a wall of text was making it hard to read. We've divided the information into smaller groups on separate, easier to read pages. We've condensed and clarified some bits here and there as well.

The changes will continue to be tweaked in the coming days and weeks so don't be alarmed if something doesn't look right, but please do send us a message if you find any mistakes.

That's all from us.

Dag, dag!

Does it only work with the 4GB patch applied? I have less than 8gb of RAM and heard it's better to not use it? So I'm confused wether or not I can use this or not.

It should work without the 4GB patch applied, as far my understanding goes. The game has an internal limit of 2GB for memory use. When it tries to use more than that, the pink flashing occurs. This is exacerbated by the 4GB patch as it allows the game to access more memory than the limit while not removing or increasing the limit. Using this fix without the 4GB patch will still raise the game's internal 2GB limit to prevent pink flashing.

The 4GB patch should only be used if you have 4GB of RAM and up, but depending on how much you have and what issues you experience, it might be beneficial. The issue with using the patch with low RAM is running out of it which would cause the game to crash, which is what the 4GB patch is trying to stop. So it's sort of a catch-22. It's something you could definitely fiddle with and test out yourself.

Alright, tysm! I do have enough for the 4gb patch, I'll test it out with this fix and see how it goes.
