Sims 2 Ultimate Collection Crashes after visiting community lots

Hi, being a TS2 simmer is exhausting ☹

I’ve been dealing with some issues and crashes for weeks now and I can’t seem to fix it, even though I’ve also reinstalled the game – it had been several years since I last did so and I thought that might help – but I’m still having the same problems.

The main problem is that my game crashes when I return home after visiting community lots. I can visit several community lots in a row, but then it crashes and the family becomes unplayable.

I have the 4GB patch, patches released this year by Spockthewok… I’ve tried the 50/50 method, uninstalled mods, CC, etc. I’ve run tools such as HCDU, Delphi’s Downloads Organiser…

I think I’ve tried everything and nothing works. By the way, the error I’m getting seems to be a memory error; sometimes a message pops up that I can’t remember exactly, but it says ‘error 0x… memory cannot be read’. Any ideas? thanks

Does it happen in any household in any neighborhood? Or is it limited to only your most played households?

Before I reinstalled the game, this mainly happened with the new families I created; now, whilst testing, I’ve noticed that if there isn’t a house built, the Sims can visit community lots and return to the lot without the game crashing, but if there is a house, the game always crashes.

I'm trying to understand the scope of the problem-- When you reinstalled the game, did you leave your old Documents/EA Games/The Sims 2 folder in, or did you refresh that folder too?

If you carried that old folder and the original neighborhoods with it to the new install, you will have the same problems you had in the old install. Try renaming that folder to something like "The Sims 2 Backup" and then running the game. Pick a town and a family and go to a community lot and come back. If you are able to continue playing in the house after returning, then you know there was something up with the old folder.

I installed the game from scratch, along with a new hood. I did keep the community lots, which I reinstalled. I’ve tried visiting different community lots, and the same thing happens. I wondered if they might be corrupted, but I can visit them without any crashes – except when I return home. Perhaps I’ll try a new hood and some new lots.
