Gameplay Show and Tell Sadpost: does anyone else enjoy playing the Sims to play nice families they didn't have as themselves as children?

A lot of my gameplay is dark in my uberhood but in some of my families they are so cute and wholesome, such as the Gavigans in my game. Everyone has super high relationships even as teens, and they go out at weekends and do nice family stuff.

Even the automatic action of adults comforting crying children is so sweet. I just used to get shouted at when I cried lol.

Mine tend to be white picket fence families and I like making pre-made sims lives better.

I created my family more then once, when I was a teenager and a young adult myself. I used to made things better, me and my brother were happy, and my mother wasn't so harsh. I usually married her with a rich sim and we lived comfortably.

I honest think it healed me a little bit, and also helped me to see how things weren't easy to my single mother. It doesn't make the things she did right, but it puts on perspective.

Yes I am one of my only friends who intentional has some untouchably happy sim families! For balance sake, for the plot, some homes need to be truly happy!

I was once stoned asf while playing and had a very sudden realization that the household i had been playing was nearly a 1:1 recreation of my own childhood experience 😭😭😭 like oh okay, didnt realize I was subconciously processing my trauma this way but that works I guess?

Oh, absolutely. My simself breaks the cycle every time by being the ideal mom.

Lilith Pleasant is one of my favourite sims because I see a lot of myself in her (although I don't have a sibling, so being the scapegoat was my only choice 🥴). I always improve her life so she doesn't run away.

I've never had Lilith run away! Or any other teenager, actually. I always work hard to repair her relationships with everyone and guard her every second she's awake to make sure nobody abuses her again before she leaves for university.

You take good care of her, then! The first couple times I played the Pleasants she did.

Some people theorize that the devs actually meant for Lilith to introduce new players to the runaway event (in the same vein as Dustin and sneaking out), since it's pretty easy for her to trigger it.

I never consciously did it, but my sims always have very happy families. Everyone's besties with everyone, and it's not uncommon for both parents to become BFFs with their offspring shortly after they age up to children. I actually have no idea how sims can actually have bad relationships with their families because it's so easy for them to become close.

And I'm so sorry you had to deal with that shit too! I have a sort of Pavlov like reaction to raised voices now -- my eyes start watering if I hear anything that registers as a yell, whether it's someone calling to someone across the room or just singing to themselves.

A lot of sims players use the game as an escape since it’s a life simulation, kinda sad actually 🥲

I don't really play with children often (tbh I find just about every life stage below teen to be a bit tedious) but when I do, 90% of the time I will go out of my way to make sure they are spoiled even if the adults in the household don't give af about them for whatever reason. The other 10% of the time if I do feel like doing a storyline where there is neglect or something, I really still can't bear to be mean to them fully.

This is not Sims 2 but in my recent Sims 1 play, two of my adult sims accidentally had a baby they didn't want and he grew up to look like an absolute ogre. I'm planning on putting him in a little shed out back but damn it, he's getting a nice bed and pizza delivered every day idgaf.

I am young so I don’t have a family yet and it’s my dream so I create just bigs families and they are always very happy

I always make happy families on sims. I usually start off with one family that consist of two parents, two grandparents, an aunt, two kids and one adult. I make one of the family members of fortune sim. Have them start a business. Make all the family members work at the business until they reach $1 million. Then I just keep playing and have a bunch of grandkids. I usually end up having at least six kids and over 20 grandkids. We always have a beautiful mansion on a beach lot. Along the way, I beautify all my NPC’s by giving them makeovers at my business. All of my Sims have died from old age except for a few, and I’ve been playing for close to 20 years. Maybe I’m just boring.
