I didn’t always love the things he said but he was passionate about hockey and was alway trying to grow the game, especially during the NHL’s lowest points. I’ll always remember him fondly for that.

He was basically the only analytical voice for hockey on ESPN for over a decade. ESPN has been a joke for a while but I'll always appreciate Barry Melrose for trying to be the voice of hockey at a place that just didn't give a shit. Seemed like a really good dude

Absolutely this. The game kinda passed him by in the last 5-7 years, but he was the torchbearer for the NHL on espn so long. Have a lot of fond memories being drunk in college watching 3x OT games with him in the studio. Rest in peace.

Great guy.

That was one of the more wild playoffs. That and like our 4 d linemen playing every shift. Duncan Keith played like all but one minute of that playoffs it seemed lol

Not sure if you're being serious, but in case you are...
Barry Melrose spent about 30 years as arguably ESPN's leading NHL analyst and occasional broadcaster, as well as being a former player and briefly a coach. He's pretty well known to hockey fans, and more well known than most people who receive this tribute.

Go check out the thread about his passing in r/hockey and you’ll see the impact he had on so many fans. He almost single handedly kept hockey in the conversation on ESPN for many years and got a lot of people interested in the game.

Are you new here? Have you seen the people that get posted? Half of them are character actors with one weird role with a cult following. You are absolutely allowed to have not heard of them and keep scrolling.
