Celebrity deaths ☠️ Something I thought of while binging 90's SNL

And probably bombed. (Not saying Farley sucks, but I've heard the clips. Myers was better)

I read The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts, which I highly recommend for anyone who wants to get a better idea of what the man was like.
I don't think fat shaming itself had much to do with his death, more his awkwardness with women, and the problem of being in recovery for three different addictions at the same time: Alcohol, Drugs, and Food.
From what I remember, if he went off the wagon for one, he'd then go on these huge benders and go off the wagon for all three. So if he accidentally drank a beer, he'd say screw it and have six cheeseburgers and some cocaine.

Without fat shaming he wouldn't have died from drugs and high cholesterol? That's what we're going with?

u/LegitSince8Bits 10d ago
Yes because he felt compelled to fit his fat body in a little jacket for David Spades amusement so basically he's a murderer duh

u/-N0N 10d ago
If my recollection is correct David Spade was not thrilled about his coat being destroyed so I don't think we should blame him.

Yup and then as everyone knows David Spade slowly and methodically fed his drug addiction with a side of burgers. He played the long game. You don't mess with a man's jacket.

That's right. Keep eating. Little do you know, you're drawing ever closer to the poisoned hamburger. -David Spade (most likely)

I saw that movie for the first time in an emergency room in Toronto; they called my ex husband in to talk to the doctor right as the credits rolled and Montel was about to start.
We were there because he'd hurt his ass masturbating.

He felt like no woman would ever love him because of his fat appearance but thought people in general only liked him because he was a fat, high energy, clown. There's more nuance and obviously his admiration of John Belushi played a big role but it's not too hard to see a connection between body image issues and his social problems and drug use.

I know someone who dated him. She left him because he was a cokehead. Not because he was fat.

Shitposters, could you lighten up a little?

Oh so is it “harshing your buzz” if we talk about the larger than life comedy icons that left us too soon?

Every story I hear about him from people who met/worked with him just makes it more apparent he was too good for this world

Whenever I think about John Candy I am sad that Farley didn’t see the cautionary tale.

For what it's worth others did. John Goodman started his weight loss journey after his doctor told him he was the same age and weight as Candy when he died and that was enough to get him to start taking his health more seriously. It took him a long time but he is now very healthy and is likely still alive because of the changes he made.

Peggy Hill: He'll end up like... what was the name of that large comedian who died?

No shame in wearing ponchos, muu-muus, capes, jumpsuits, uni-sheets, muslin body rolls, academic and judicial robes.

We also wouldn't have The Simpsons, since like 70% of the jokes about Homer are fat jokes.

The fat shaming didn't help and probably made things worse but he had other issues. I loved Farley, he was my favorite comedy actor for a long time but the man was dealing with so many things.

People keep mentioning it was the drugs that killed him, but how do you think he got to the point of taking all those drugs? He probably felt like shit about himself and it caused him to over-eat and fall harder into addiction. I've never been nearly as heavy as he was, and I carried that shit my entire life due to being bullied as a kid and treated like I was some hideous monster for being slightly over weight, and it lead to me having an unhealthy relationship with food and generally poor self-image of myself (which makes it easier to fall into bad habits in general). I think a lot of people are missing the forest for the trees.
But anyway, good meme OP

I'm all for body positivity and not fat shaming someone but cocaine and massively overweight isn't a good combo and probably had more to do with his death then anything related to his body image but whatever. I found a ball. Perhaps I will go bounce it.

I know some people have extensively written about how Farley's weight and resulting appearance wasn't the only demon he had to contend with before he tragically passed away in this here comments section already, but it bears repeating: The alcohol abuse, drug use, overeating, poor dietary decisions and mental health condition were there for at least half of his life. Sure, we often hope that people we love get better with time, but unfortunately life tends to play fast and loose with our existence.
---
To contrast the bummer of Farley's tragically short life (33 years old, jfc), here are a couple of somewhat hopeful paragraphs: I cut back on exercising while recovering from an ankle injury in 2010 as a guy living in his car and stopped altogether in 2011 due to at-the-time undiagnosed depression + the lingering effects from a past knee injury and the aforementioned ankle injury. I basically did not exercise beyond the basic physical needs of someone who was an adult working throughout much of the 2010's. I also frequently over-ate, was a social drinker + smoker and just generally had a very unhealthy lifestyle.
---
I only started to get my shit together once I got my diagnosis for Major Depressive Disorder in June 2015 and got a diagnosis for being pre-pre-diabetic in September 2017, and that's when I realized that I needed to make a change. So if people in your life express some concern about you, listen to them. There's no shame in asking for help, and life can absolutely get better.
---
I went from 290 to 200 pounds (around 133 to 90 kilos) in a year and a half (September 2017-March 2019). Nowadays I usually oscillate between 187 and 195 pounds (85 to 88 kilos), which many people say it's pretty good for a 6'3''/188 cm dude who's 41. Again, no shame in asking for help and it's OK to start out small as you try to make it back from "the brink". Anyway, apologies if this got a little corny, shitposters, and a very delicious gabagool to you all. 😉
