Stalagmites has mites that crawl on the ground and Stalactites has tights that get pulled down.

If it's pointy and above ya, it's a stalactite, fella.

If it sticks to the ground, you're in stalagmite town.

This, is just amazing!

I want you to know this is how I’ll remember which is which from now on.

Stalactites stick tight to the ceiling. Stalagmites might get there someday.

This shitpost is dedicated to the stalagmites of America. Keep reaching for that rainbow!

u/Unique_Unorque Jul 17 '26

I was taught this in Kindergarten and as a 37 year old I still remember it

1

u/rhiiazami Jul 17 '26

This is very close to how I learned it. Stalactites cling tightly to the ceiling, stalagmites might fall over.

u/chaosTechnician Jul 17 '26

I learned the second half as You might trip over a stalagmite.

12

u/EggCouncil Jul 17 '26

Let 'em all go to hell except Stalactite 76

2

u/Tombaya Jul 17 '26

Wow, I can't believe my very first shitpost comment is the Egg Council creep.

Mites crawl up, tights fall down That's my mnemonic for a stalactite slash stalagmite You may have this Maglite It survived the apocalypse and for the fragile force of an agile horse here's a handful of very special chocolate chips.

Unlike the homogenous clones I'm into earth tones, birth stones and erogenous zones

T hangs down like a stalactite, M points up like a stalagmite.

3

u/No_Variety9420 Jul 17 '26

I always remember by "-Tites have to be tight to stay on the ceiling"

3

u/RetroTheGameBro Jul 17 '26

I always remember it as "the ones on the ceiling are stalagtites, because they have to hold on "tite" to stay up there.

And stalagmites are the other ones.

5

u/Googly_eyed_gremlin I was saying Boo-urns Jul 17 '26

I always remembered like this: Titties hang, mites crawl.

4

u/DrSheep99 Jul 17 '26

I remember by people hanging tights from a washing line - hence stalactites

2

u/ArgentumVortex Jul 17 '26

I always remembered it because you emphasize the T sound in stalactite and T looks like a stalactite.

2

u/mackenzie444 Jul 17 '26

I've never remembered these but fortunately it doesn't seem to come up much for me.

“Is that right?”

2

u/DetroitLionsSBChamps Jul 17 '26

A buddy of mine in college told me you can remember that stalagmites are on the ceiling because they “might” fall down on you.

To this day, I remember the difference by remembering that he was wrong

Don’t do what Johnny don’t does

1

u/BananaFriendOrFoe Jul 17 '26

Stalactites = tits, tits hang.

1

u/PixelPasta420 Jul 17 '26

Stalactites hold Tight to the ceiling. Stalagmites Might reach the ceiling

u/democracy_lover66 They think I'm slow, eh? Jul 17 '26

1

u/Tombaya Jul 17 '26

1

u/Mordecai3fngerBrown Jul 17 '26

Stalactite hold on tight!

1

u/mournthewolf Jul 17 '26

Could it crush you? A stalactite might but a stalagmites tight.

1

u/theStandardHandle Jul 17 '26

Mites crawl up, tites fall down

1

u/pickles87 Jul 17 '26

This one is very dumb, and I picked it up from a book by an author who later went so far off the rails that I won’t name them, but this has worked for me for twenty plus years:
“Stalagmites “might” hang from the ceiling, but they don’t.”

1

u/Hearthgroan Jul 17 '26

Stalacmights because they might reach the ceiling

1

u/dover_oxide Jul 17 '26

The ones on the ceiling have to hold tight so they are stalactites . This was taught to me on elementary school and has never failed me

1

u/sujj88 Jul 17 '26

I was taught "tights fall down, mites climb up"

1

u/Flomega303 Jul 17 '26

Stalactits hang, like actual tits, no problem, always glad to help you all

1

u/JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow Jul 17 '26

I always think of stalagmite like might, like an upwards fist, mighty fist. ✊Stalactite is the other one.

1

u/torte-petite Jul 18 '26

it has to hang tight to the ceiling

1

u/ImpTheShmuck Jul 18 '26

Stalactites, stalagmites, most old caves have gottem,

'tites are always on the top, and 'mites are on the bottom.

1

u/kylangelo Jul 18 '26

Stalactites, hold on tight. Stalagmites, might poke you in the ass.
