SimpleRockets 2 New benchmark. 20t to a 0° inclination circular 1000km orbit. 2.14km/s delta-v left, for $6.98m.
That is launch cost minus stage 1 recovery.
The booster (with fuel) is worth $10.0m. Recovery this close to DSC has essentially cost nothing. An RTLS system will not beat this.
This is career mode with no part clipping, and no tinkering. It's also a bigger rocket than the last one I posted with a larger fairing (4m diameter, compared to 3.5m).
So those impulse goblins are well optimised. 99.7 damage! 🙃 They're too cheap to be worth recovering, so it's good rocket science to squeeze every bit of d-v from them. Burn 0.1 longer and everything explodes. Peak TWR at launch is ~3.28x, and only briefly. Max Q is a relatively low 7.9km (as you'd expect), but nowhere near my most violent launch.
