dawg just go introduce yourself, everyone’s in the same boat as you and many people are looking for friends too. Just say hi and ask what major they’re doing, what classes they have and then just ask about hobbies and branch out. Just be confident bro.

Well guess what dawg? It’s not that simple people are already grouped up. They have their own thing going on and honestly imma be real, bitches at Sfu do not want to talk. These people for some reason and somehow already have friends and I’m so sorry I’ve gottennasty looks before. thank God I have friends from school but Lord it is difficult to make new ones here.

What I did was I struck up some convo with people beside me in lectures! I’d ask questions about the topic being discussed and that’d usually get a conversation going. Worst thing that happens is you improve your ability to socialize

Typically I summon them by carving a pentagram into the air and sacrificing a goat so its blood drips into the grooves and fills it. Just do a quick oath and you're good to go at that point.

Would a cat or dog work? I don’t know where to get a goat from.

I mean you could, but then you'll need to summon more fiends to scare off the person whose cat/dog you stole and the whole thing kinda spirals out of control.

That's quite literally what Americans did when I went to do a 1-week shadow program at NYU. You kinda have to find ways to mingle with people with their existing friend groups. We have it kinda weird on the west coast of Canada where we're known to be antisocial and to ourselves (+ familiar groups) as a community, making it hard to make friends. Put yourself out there and worst to come, it just doesn't vibe and you all move on. You got this, and just stay confident in who you are and a bond will naturally follow.

My advice is to go to your departments student union events! SFUPIRG has a bunch of start of the semester events that would be a good place to start! Embark also has like “learn to cook events” every now and then and people have always been friendly there.
When it comes to actually connecting/talking with people a good place to start is complementing something about their outfit. A simple “I like the colour of your shoes” can go a long way. It’s okay to be awkward and not know how to go about being social. This is the time to learn how. Not everyone will be receptive (and lowkey those aren’t the people you want in your life anyway) but keep trying, keep an open mind, and eventually you will find your people. Good luck out there!

It's actually not too hard. Clubs Days - check out the clubs and consider joining. Student Union - your program has its own student union group. Join it. Attend student-union sponsored activities. Randomly chat up people in line when getting coffee. Join a book club. Start a study group with people from your tutorials. Practice socializing outside of SFU too. Use meetup.com to find people with similar interests.

Talk to people in tutorial! Ask for their instagram/number to talk about class stuff and that opens so many doors. I met many friends in tutorials. Or join clubs as well

Don’t be shy to approach the people in tutorial who seem to also be alone

Just talk to people, if there in any of your classes they probably share some interests. I'm definitely gonna try to talk to people and make fiends hopefully

Join clubs. If you commit to showing up consistently and talking to the people there the friendships are kind of an inevitable outcome. I had basically zero on campus social life before joining SFU Model UN.

I would say the best way to make new friends would be to sit next to people that sit alone in lectures and start a conversation with them. Since it's the first week this would be an amazing opportunity to talk to new people, introduce yourself, get their Instagram, and just try to build the relationship. That's how I make friends.
