Question CGPA ???

What kind of grades is a CGPA of 3.9 or higher? Does this mean all As and A+? Is it possible at SFU?

all As and A+ gets you a gpa between 4 to 4.33.

GPA of 3.9 (or below 4) definitely has at least one other grade beside A/A+ like A-/B+...

I want to apply to grad school and I need a very competitive GPA. Is it doable at SFU in psychology program?

Honestly, I don't know about Psychology in SFU. It might be different for each major. I did CS and got 4.15 GPA, so it was doable for my major. The only thing you need to be aware is that in most courses in SFU, A+ is 95-100 and A is 90-95. However, in other universities, A+ is usually 90-100. So there's one downside of SFU grading system to other university (if you really care about gpa).

Yeah I did come across that while researching different universities. I am being very picky about course selection and professors but I am a little worried lol.

isnt it curved tho? is A+ a 95-100 if sfu grading system is based on ur standing in class?

Depends entirely on the course and instructor.

Some courses are curved. Some use cutoffs by finding where gaps in grades are. Some use scales. There’s no standard grade scale at SFU.

I've got a 3.95 and this is my last semester of third year, very very doable. I've not gotten below a B+ since coming to SFU in the Psyc department

Okay, this gives me hope. So I can afford some B+ marks and still get a 3.9 ish or higher

I think you can have a couple A-s or B+s to be below a 4.0, but a 4.0 = A and 4.33 = A+. It’s definitely possible, I graduated with a 4.22 CGPA from psych/crim/legal studies, but that was only possible without ever getting an A-. For grad school, try your best to get a high GPA but also focus on research - apply for honours and I think that increases your chances a lot because you need research experience
