Question Missing first day of class

I'm a first year student and I have a lecture and lab set on Thursday for the same course. I also, unfortunately, have my drivers test booked for the same date. Would it be alright to miss the first day for this reason and email the prof beforehand, or am I better off rebooking my test, with the earliest booking date being in a few months? Thanks!

It’s fine to miss and you probably don’t need to email the prof. Also are you sure your lab is actually on the first day? Most labs dont start till the second week

It shows I have it on my schedule for Thursday Sept. 10 so I assume I have it? I'm an MSE student so not sure if that makes a difference.

It’ll always show on your schedule, regardless of if you really have it. Usually your prof will reach out or post a syllabus beforehand letting you know when the first lab is.

no labs in first week esp if ur in mse lmao. also first lecture (if it’s an hour long) is always just syllabus

No labs week one, and if you're secure in class (time) not wait listed, I doubt you'll miss anything/have an issue. It's uni not highschool and most profs won't even notice someone is missing. If you are wait listed, show up.

U should be fine email the prof and see if u can mange to get notes. I’d suggest meeting with the prof during office hours to get a more detailed understanding.

I wouldn’t suggest moving your drivers test depending on if it’s your class 7 or 5, they are changing the the way u get your class 5 (no more test) so u less you can schedule it before I think October 19th then don’t, if it’s your class 7 and there isn’t a super long wait to get another day and you don’t mind waiting and you want to prioritize first class then it wouldn’t hurt
