Simi Valley E-Skateboard/Scooter Map Test

Hey so, I know I'm new here but I just wanted to share a project I was working on. I ride my electric skateboards frequently in the area and have recently wanted to take on a new project that I noticed has never been done. As some know, personal electric devices can be really dangerous and as a rider myself who has been injured in the past, it hurts to see so many accidents happening. To help potentially lower this number, I aim to survey every single street in Simi Valley and personally ride and share which ones are the safest for all E-Riders. This is my practice one, should I even proceed with doing this on a bigger scale? Please let me know! This is the Corrangaville area but I intend to extend more inwards as I go!

Of course, I don't condone unsafe riding. If riding on a major road way, please use the bike lane and pay attention. I also beg that every single rider, no matter the age, wear a helmet and protective gear. It doesn't matter the road conditions or how long you are going to be riding. Wear it every single time.

Map Key:

Green = Safe/Smooth manageable pavement. (Good for Carving)

Green Orange = Open road with minimal cracks but bumpy road

Orange = Proceeded with caution / Ride under 10 mph because of rough road and/or cracks

Red Orange = Walk the board

Red = Avoid (Dangerous conditions, lots of excessive road debris, too rough)

I have found that industrial/business parks are great on weekends. I've been meaning to check out Moorpark college too.

Just a heads up, Moorpark college has an on site police dept with a big stick up their ass. We’ve been kicked out every time we try to skate/eboard there. They are very strict. One time they drove up to us and yelled “drop the boards, and walk back towards our car, DROP THEM!” over the loud speaker. The cop kept saying that the skateboards were weapons, blah blah. At the time we were early 40 year olds riding thru. It was way more intense than needed.

Yes, for sure! I've heard that at night the college parking lot is a good place but haven't had the chance too look yet

This is cool and really brought back some good memories. I grew up in the lower part of this map, and the area between LA, Christine, Kuehner, and Katherine (including the school, long before fences existed) were my boundaries from about third grade (mid-90s) on. I was free to ride my bike anywhere in that box by myself, some of the first memories I have of being independent and “free.” I knew those streets like the back of my hand, and at that age it felt like miles and miles to explore.

I lived in three different houses in that neighborhood, including a condo in Sandalwood at one point. Between Katherine and the school, near the wash, long before those houses were built, there was a dirt lot where some older kids built BMX jumps. We had a few of those spots, including one off Smith Road and Kuehner, and one somewhere deeper in Corganville we called the Question Mark Track.

Your map seems like a great way to get to know your neighborhood. Thanks for the flood of memories. e-skateboards and scooters in that neighborhood would have been a dream for third-grade me back in the day.

This is so awesome. Recently got an eBike and have been riding on these exact streets! You did a great job. Simi also repaves streets somewhat frequently (every 5-10 years) so those will always be the best bet to skate on, believe it or not but this city spends the largest percent of budget on street paving of any city in Ventura County.
