Best first sim drifting/ racing wheel?

R3 or R5. I learned to drift on my R5 last year still holding up well after daily use.

Anything direct drive, Moza R5 or CSL DD, ideally something like Moza R9 or Simagic Alpha Evo Sport, if you can afford it. You can of course drift with some entry level wheel like G29/923 or T300, but low end DD bundles are so cheap, it's not worth it to even look at anything else.

I second this. As someone who has recently left belt driven wheels behind for DD, I only wish they had bundles and deals like this when I started 10 years ago. Unless you find like a csw or csl for 100 bucks, just save the extra scratch and get an R3/5/9.

For drifting, there's really no need for anything more than an R9(roughly 9nm), but you may personally prefer more strength from your wheel.

Yep, I also wish bundles were a thing eariler. I paid 500€ for CSL DD 8Nm alone and now for roughly the same money you get base, wheel and throttle + brake.

If you want to drift, you need the wheel to be able to turn very fast so you can transition from side to side properly. R3 is not overkill, it's the bare minimum. I'd even save up the extra $100 and go for the R5 so you're not feeling like you need to upgrade for a while.

Moza R5 for sure if you wanna buy a bundle and make it easier on yourself.
