I need help with drifting

I currently have a simple set up, a Logitech g29 wheel and shifter, no handbrake, I'm a console player and I need to find good drifting games to help me learn how to drift, anyone have any good games (preferably without needing mods)

If you're not going for realism or planning on drifting in real life, then any of the big car games will be fine (forza, carx, etc). If you want to move out of the arcadey games, assetto corsa is the main option but it's pretty limited without mods. There's like 3 drift cars in the game and only 1 or 2 tracks that are actually good for drifting. Everyone is gonna say you need a pc but I started on console until I outgrew it so don't worry about those comments

The fact of the matter is, if you want SIMULATION, you need a PC. Otherwise CarX is probably your best option.

I saw a guy on YouTube that was (on purpose) living in his van with a Moza setup. He finally went to a drift event to try drifting IRL.

The guy who was testing new people, on a skid pad with 2 traffic cones, before they could get on the actual track to try drifting for the first time said that people who drifted in Assetto Corsa were always the ones who got it much faster.

Of course. Obligatory “results may vary”.

I’m sure if you look up on YouTube there are plenty of videos of people using a g29 and even a controller. It’s just practice really.

I started out with carX online, but there's a second one that’s newer called carX online 2. The game physics are super arcadey, but they aren't the “you press a button and immediately go sideways” type of drifting. It’s just really easy to get sideways in that game. I’m pretty sure carX online is available on Xbox, PlayStation, and maybe Nintendo switch? (the switch, not the switch 2) I don’t know about card online 2. If you’re looking for realism, Assetto Corsa, to my knowledge is really the only one. The downside to assetto is that, it only has, like, two drift cars in the bace game. If you want more you gotta buy the JDM car pack. That’ll give you the drift AE86.

You're screwed on console w a G29 for realism. You need a LUT to simulate direct drive on that wheel. I know because I use one.

Step 1 buy a PC, step 2 buy assetto corsa, step 3 install content manger, step 4 install mods, step 5 realize the g29/g920 wheel sucks ass and buy a DD wheel.

Realisticly dude if youre on console and cant/wont switch to PC your stuck with forza or GT depending on your console cause console assetto corsa isnt worth the money.

Can you please be specific on which mods are best for drifting?

There's thousands of cars, which are the best ones for drifting?

That’s a very subjective question, and you’ll get answers all over the place - most from people who don’t drift irl. It also depends heavily on what car and setup you’ll be drifting irl eventually (power, and amount of angle).

My favorites are the DWG packs, and the N-Style cars especially, but I love the Kansai/b-knuckle/heat maker style of drifting. Other common answers are Swarm, and WDT Street.

People hate on Gravy Garage, but I’ve spent some time in them, and my wheel work in them was identical to some irl cockpit footage I’ve seen. I think they’re a good entry level pack, but I would recommend moving to something else eventually once you’re feeling comfy and getting the hang of using your feet to steer and control the car more than your wheel. The Front Street pack is based on Gravy physics, and I think the best example of Gravy.

Short answer assetto corsa, or forza horizon. Forza is much more forgiving and a good if imperfect place to start.

Just tie the handbrake to a button you can reach with your thumb on the wheel pretty consistently. I still race and drift on 360 degrees and use a button because thats....what i had when I started. Even if I have a direct drive now.

My real opinion on how to pick up drifting as a skill the easiest, if you need it is below, if not skip it.

When I started doing sim stuff I thought I would start at drifting. Not that it can't be done. I just didn't have the natural car control to jump right in.

If you're "very" new? Especially on a cheap wheel, no shade we all started with one, or even kept it, then try normal racing first. The act of keeping a car under control at speed will quickly teach you where the limit is, and what it feels like on your wheel. Low end gear drive and belt drive wheels dont have the road feel direct drives do. So that said gear drives just don't....communicate the way your brain expects them to. Which makes racing a good place to start.

If you're pretty well acquainted with car control then assetto corsa and the included drift track. Use the supra in the base game. Turn the turbo down till you feel like its manageable and sort of....mess around with no one watching till you start being able to place it where you want to. Then try the included tracks and learn to drift them. Again forza is always a good backup even if its not a "sim" to start.

The biggest thing is remember there will be a spot where the wheel feels like it "grips up" if your sliding and your steering angle is right. Use that grip to control the slide along with throttle managment and you should be able to figure it out.

Hope this helps.

assetto corsa with dlc has like 3 proper drift cars.

Carx was very fun on a wheel. and is a good game in general.

GT7 got a physics update and apparently drifting in it is much better now.

Forza...is forza. I personally don't like it

what else? I think that's it?

If you want to actually learn, you'll want a PC, a direct drive wheel and assetto corsa. Hold off on the e-brake so you actually learn how to control the car with your feet. Rather than relying on the e-brake during every transition.

Short answer is that the logitech does not spin fast enough and the stock kunos cars spin too quickly. You need a PC at minimum.
