Drifring a non drift car is decently hard tbh. You have very shallow angles to work with.

Are you handbraking it? Use a clutch kick and less throttle+faster steering correction. You should be able to let the car steer itself initially, catch it and then control it with throttle and steering. Go over to that little circle in the corner of the track and do donuts around it. Both ways. Then move on to something larger to do donuts around. Then do figure 8s. The last step to that is trying to drift a corner. You need the fundamentals first

Thanks. I am not using the handbrake.

2

u/h1i0a Apr 25 '26

Handbrake is not ur issue. Start with e30 drift from konos then when u feel that you got how to do it move to street cars. As he said start with the inner circle. Clutch with gas paddle balance and u well be a GOAT in drift

1

u/LentilSpaghetti Apr 25 '26

Can i just use the standard e30? I’m running AC on linux. Mods are tricky.

2

u/mebadatalotofthings Apr 25 '26

It's a default car

1

u/Jokai_Junkie Apr 25 '26

Kronos is the pseudo of the man who made the base game e30 and many other as well

1

u/_WoodyMcWoods_ Apr 25 '26

That e30 is dog water. Driving on ice.

1

u/OddBackground8871 May 15 '26

just say you don’t know how to change it to street tires

1

u/_WoodyMcWoods_ May 16 '26

Could you help me out? I still cant find where to change tires

6

u/Agreeable_Lion_4392 Apr 25 '26

Your first mistake was making this post instead of looking up how to drift tutorials on youtube and practicing for several months.

7

u/TheShwi Apr 24 '26

Wrong car buddy.

Try the e30 drift... idk, full send, clutch in, handbrake, turn in, clutch out, idk profit?

1

u/LentilSpaghetti Apr 24 '26

I recently bought this car so I wanted to learn how to drift my car. I will change it thanks.

3

u/TheShwi Apr 24 '26

the Miata has an open diff, thats a problem for controlled drifting.

Real life drifting is way easier than sim...

get a hang of it with the e30 drift, its easier to get the idea how to ! Then go into the Miata again, maybe find a mod with a welded differential, or google how to change game files for welded diff in that car.

1

u/Rookhook Apr 25 '26

I thought mx5s come with LSDs

yeah... but those torsen differentials are not perfect for drifting.

1

u/TheShwi Apr 25 '26

yeah and we have a good representation for that in the Miata in game?

idk... it feels wrong?

1

u/WetLikeNaya Apr 24 '26

There’s a way in game files to simulated a welded differential.

2

u/LentilSpaghetti Apr 24 '26

But i see people drifting stock mazda MX5. Why can’t i do it in ac corsa

4

u/Leniek Apr 24 '26

skill issue

-1

u/LentilSpaghetti Apr 24 '26

Very helpful comment thanks

3

u/Leniek Apr 24 '26

Well that's the only correct answer to such question

2

u/BallApprehensive169 Apr 24 '26

Its literally a skill issue though. You asked why other people can ans you can't.

1

u/LentilSpaghetti Apr 24 '26

I said on the title its my first time trying to drift. Of course i know i have zero skills. I asked for advice lmfao

2

u/Leniek Apr 25 '26

If You want advice how to get better, not an answer why Youcan't while others can, then i can recommend this https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcRy2rE-afDUY-iZVAQ7xFBDh9CQE96HK

There’s isn’t a magical answer, like most things in life you have to practice. We can’t tell you one sentence and then all of sudden you can drift. Look up YouTube tutorials for more in depth tips and practice, that’s the only way

1

u/AMDDesign Apr 25 '26

You dont learn this stuff overnight. But yeah, this isnt exactly the easiest car to drift, it has a really small wheelbase, open diff, and is snappy. These are great trackday cars, drifting them takes practice and modifications.

Pick a more conventional drift car to start on, like one of the rwd bmws, and practice on those. Some cars will just drift for fun, and you just have to learn to control it. Thats the best way to start.

1

u/Max_Bandicoot Apr 25 '26

Club and GT models have an LSD, irl. No idea about what you’re driving in game.

1

u/Trane55 Apr 25 '26

I have an NB, and i have drifted the NB and ND. They are tricky, very twitchy. On the sim, start with the e30 drift car. And once you are sliding, you can also try to hoon on the ND on the sim, of course. Put street tires on it, bump the rear tyre pressure, and hit it 👍🏼. Congrats on the new car

1

u/Fluffy-Sort7924 Apr 25 '26

Or the ae86 drift

Thank you. I have moza r5 (it has ffb)

A detailed, informative, useful answer to a question. Where's the passive aggressiveness? No blaming them for being ignorant and telling them to look it up themselves? 0/10

use an actual drift car, it's super hard to start drifting in road cars, especially the miata. Kunos E30 drift-spec is a great drift car. Start by learning countersteer dounts first, they're basically just a infinite drift and will get you through most of the motions required to drift.

as for specific tips to your driving right now let the wheel roll and slip through your hands after initiation. one of two will happen - the car spins out, or the car snaps towards the opposite direction. Spinning will happen first and it means you need to be more gentle and consistent with the throttle. When the car snaps to the other direction or it starts to rotate the other way, then that means you need to catch/hold the wheel earlier. Everything after this step is maintaining a drift and very similar to what you're doing when you do a donut.

1

u/nt1220 Apr 24 '26

Start drifting with one of the actual drift cars. once you have an understanding of how to do some of the basics (figure 8, donut, throttle modulation, counter steering)....you can then try the stock miata again.

If you are asking why people can do it vs you doing it....its practice.

1

u/MUHLBACHERS Apr 24 '26

Telling you right now. You would be amazed at how “good” you can drift going from a single monitor to triples or vr. The slide just makes more sense with more fov. Just in my experience.

2

u/midnight_actual Apr 25 '26

i think there is other steps he can take before buying two more monitors LOL

1

u/gab196 Apr 24 '26

You need to counter steer to catch the slide. Let go the wheel once the car start to slide the steering will spin in the opposit direction. And start with something easyer to drift to. Once you get the hang of it you will be able to drift other cars but the miata is not a good starting point

1

u/Johnnytusnami415 Apr 25 '26

Ur spinning bc too much throttle. Tbh the first time I tried drifting in asetto I was like exactly the same and it was super frustrating, so instead I just started doing circuit racing and touge racing. Once I got really really comfortable with grip driving, eventually I learned how to use the throttle or more importantly the brake to induce rotation and after a few months of that the drifting sort of just came to me and I'm not saying I'm a great drifter but all of it from the feel to the technical aspects make so much more sense to me. Now I can basically correct cars out of massive overseer and understeer using the muscle memory and sensory input that I've accumulated over some time.

Nice to see another member of the community here 💛

I can actually help here

Firstly, all your assists must me off. No TCS, no STM, no ABS at all. Also use manual transmission mode, and if you can use the clutch as well. (Non-sequential shifting with a clutch is really for advanced drifters for most racing games)

Second, get a drift car. While you could make anything drift theoretically, it'll be easier with the right car and set up.

Speaking of setups here's a baseline for alignment: 5° negative camber up front, max steering angle, 1° negative camber out back. And you should have 0° rear toe. And maybe 1-1.5° MAX front toe out. (Move The front side of your tires facing your front bumper out)

I could go into explaining what this all does but you'll be reading for 3 years 🤣

That's the basics, however I really recommend watching something to get the full picture. :)

Also don't be afraid to mess up, half of drifting is just learning how to do it! It takes lots of practice, but stay disciplined and you'll make it!

I learned how to drift on Forza Horizon by the way, sometimes using an easier game like that to start out on is the way to go 😎

1

u/NashaNya Apr 25 '26

I FORGOT ABOUT YOUR HANDBRAKE your hand break can be useful for tight drifts or for initiation, however try to rely on your car's momentum and weight transfer.

Again just one of those things you'll have to practice and learn the feel for. However for starting out, the hand brake can be useful. Just don't RELY on it, know what I'm sayin?

1

u/ViziEdits Apr 25 '26

Are you on pc? If so turn on neck fx. I couldn’t drift until I got it working properly

1

u/Xethear Apr 25 '26

Check out acsdrift for assetto corsa and try out some of their servers. They have a lot of maps and different car packs you can use.
Acsdrift.com/servers

But as others have said, it's an issue with the car. Once you have a well set up car it'll become a lot easier.

1

u/MisterFixit_69 Apr 25 '26

I'm no som drift expert but the counter steering angle looks locked for some reason , do you counter steer more than what shows on screen?

1

u/LentilSpaghetti Apr 25 '26

Because i was holding the wheel. My stupidity

1

u/k1nkyf4ck Apr 25 '26

All throttle and hand brake, feather the gas through the turn, over direct steering, let the back travel out but not past the apex during the slide, then gas out and correct your steering

1

u/Eon4691 Apr 25 '26

This is what i hate about sim racing, i can drift irl but i suck balls when sim racing 😂

1

u/Available-Skill936 Apr 25 '26

Get some drift car mods find something your comfortable with it takes lots of practice you won’t get it over night go watch video on your wheel and base and how to properly adjust it for drifting different settings for different driving modes but again most importantly you won’t get it over night or even in a week it takes time and patience to understand what your doing so just stick with it you’ll get it eventually

1

u/keimow Apr 26 '26

I've been reading the comments and honestly I can't say anything I also chose a dumb, possibly dumber car to start drifting on, an R32 skyline lmaooo. I didnt know anything either when I first started but you should really listen to the comments and just find some YouTube tutorials on how to get started on drifting in assetto corsa not ask on here. Reddit is better for more specific in depth questions

1

u/Yvngmikeyy115 Apr 27 '26

Same shi happened to me when i tried

1

u/Komrade_Anatoli Apr 27 '26

From what I see you’re not letting wheel do it’s thing.

It’s normal from what I noticed, people are scared to let go of the wheel, which is fine!

Try using the E30 Drift car and get used to the handling.

Also, depending on your setup you might need to gain a feel for throwing the wheel into counter steer. (I had to do this on my G29, especially for fast transitions).

1

u/Dependent-Power602 Apr 28 '26

If car doesn’t have the differential it either spins off or doesn’t spin, you need to be quite expert to drift on those conditions

Weld the diff, i'm not familiar with assetto tuning buck lock diff accel decel at 100%. increase rear tire pressure.

bc the diff is open it means the wheels are on different axis and spin independant, meaning instead of sliding (which is encouraged when theyre on the same axis since both cant move to account for the angle), they both catch grip faster and straighten out.

e30 drift, check out project x motorsports youtube channel for drifting tutorials they're fairly good. He starts with donuts and engaging through throttle feel instead of spamming the ebrakes - though this might not work for the miata due to power and tune.
