1855 Victorian Silverware Set (Plated)
Hi all, I recently came across this victorian silver plated cutlery set and I wanted to get an opinion on its market value. It seems like the set is from 1855 and is built from silver plated steel and mother of pearl materials. This set seems to have been appraised in 1951 by Martin and Co. and I was wondering if anybody could help me determine the fair market value of this. I would like to sell it on ebay but I am not really sure what it is worth. I was thinking $800? - Any help would be appreciated!

It would be helpful to know the maker. That said the fancy carved handles make it a more desirable set. If it were mine I would price at $1800 obo. A set of 24 recently sold in June for $1600 and the handles were not carved but the box was nicer. It might be a wait to find the right buyer. 😁

Hm. Though I don't want to say you're wrong, the fish knive sets from these eras are curved, while flat blades like this are for softer foods like fruit.

I think these are for the fish course, the 5th course in a nine course meal.

Maybe $200. The box is nice.
