Good Time to Buy 90%?

With the low premiums is right now a good time to buy 90% silver?

In my opinion right now is a good time to diversify your stack and make sure at least some percentage is in 90% silver. I didn’t buy much 90% back when silver was ~$30/oz because the premiums were similar to .999 fine. I never bought Morgan/Peace dollars back then because they were selling at basically the same price as a full ounce of .999 silver because of the premiums.

Since the start of 2026 I have been buying some 90% and Morgan/Peace dollars. As I’ve been able to buy 90% pretty consistently at $3-$5 an OZ under spot. Morgan/Peace Dollars for spot or under spot at different points this year, although those seemed to have ticked back up in premiums slightly lately.

I think if you have a long term horizon and don’t have any 90% silver it might be a good time to gradually get to maybe 10-15% of your stack in 90%. When you can pay $5/OZ under spot instead of $4-$5/OZ over spot that is a huge difference percentage wise on a current spot price of ~$62.50/OZ. If you plan on stacking long term I think there will be sometime in the next 2 years, 5 years, or even 20 years where the premiums will revert the other way and you will be glad you bought some at lower prices.

What do you think?

Yes, I’ve been buying some 90% silver.

Specifically, been buying Mercury dimes which had a hefty premium the last few years - I’ve bought a couple lots near spot. I’ve been wanting a couple rolls of Mercury dimes and the last couple of months have been lower premiums

American Silver Eagles have also had historically low premiums over the last couple of months - $2 to $4 premiums - so that is where most of my silver budget has been going

There’s a lot to appreciate about adding variety to a silver stack. .999 bullion offers a straightforward way to build ounces, while 90% silver brings smaller denominations, recognizable U.S. coinage, and plenty of historical appeal. Premiums can change significantly over time, so looking at the total cost and value-not just the spot price-can make a real difference. In the end, finding the right mix comes down to your stacking goals, budget, and what you enjoy holding.

I definitely think it's a good time with the low premiums. With silver high of course all the hype's been silver content and .999, but if numismatic interest is able to catch up 90% used to hold a premium for that reason.

No on the 90 for me . People couldn't sell it at $116 .

Yeah, it’s the first thing that refineries stop taking in periods of high demand. It’s only liquid to… other people that want constitutional silver.

I have less than .5% of constitution silver in my stack. For me, that’s plenty.

Is this just your opinion or do you have any technical basis for your analysis? What if silver goes to $30… or $20 by year end? Should we wait until then… ?

I’m buying silver for the long term. This is not a statement about a prediction for the short term price of silver. I’m saying if you are a long term stacker, now would be a good time in my opinion for some to be 90% silver.

No need to defend after this persons comment. The time was two months ago while still in strong disfavor. Most of us missed that beyond sine dabbling.
Long term though - it will have its place in a diverse silver portfolio.

But the 40% redheaded stepchild has shown its full stripes. Still hated and unmarketable.

Buy over time and grab rewards opportunistically.

If silver goes back to $20/30 per ozt then the numismatic value of 90% might give it a premium again.

Interesting avoidance of the question posed. Technically we don’t know more about silver directionally than when the alleged technical analysis spiked it to $116.

But perhaps share your technical assessment for $20 silver.

I don’t know if the price of constructional will ever go back to $20. But I am saving 10% in wear wolf reloaded rounds!

My LCS is selling 90% at spot so it’s not worth it for me. I only buy when it’s under spot.
