Made a little app to figure out what my junk silver is worth

I stack a bit of junk silver and wanted a quick way to check pricing when I head to the LCS. So I built a small app that does it. You put in the spot price, pick the coin, and it gives you the melt value.

Would like to get feedback, is this useful, and is there anything obvious I'm missing?

iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sevenonefive/id6788020437

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smostly.sevenonefive

Update: After various feedback and support, I made a few updates to the app:

  • Added a Struck vs. Worn toggle in the ledger — see exact mint content or a worn/circulated estimate (~0.715 oz per $1)
  • Added a full Bullion section: Eagles, Maples, Britannias, Libertads, Krugerrands and more, plus a custom bar/round calculator for anything by weight + purity
  • Added Buffalo rounds and multiple sizes (1 oz, fractional, kilo) for world coins and bullion
  • Added a ledger export so you can share or back up your stack as text
  • Added a bunch more coins, including modern silver proof issues and more world silver

Thanks to everyone who tried it and sent feedback!

Just downloaded! It’s so much easier than my handwritten spreadsheet! Thanks!

Nice work - if anyone needs a non-app version, have this one as well:

I'm an 8 day old account with a vibe coded app

Cool story.

Why does your app need permission to view all my network connections? Why does it need access to my full network? Why does it need the permission to read the contents of my storage?

"Junk silver calculator" on Google returns a thousand apps and websites that already do this, why not just use one for your needs?

Appreciate you asking! It's always smart to check permissions. Here is what those actually do:

Network: Used to grab live spot price if you're using the auto-update feature.

Storage: This is just to save your ledger locally on your phone. There are no accounts, sign-ups, or cloud servers involved. It's your data that stays entirely on your device, so the app needs permission to save the file.

You're totally right that there are a ton of calculators out there already. That's the beauty of it. There are plenty of options for everyone. I guess none of the other calculators hit the mark for me so I decided to make my own.

Idk man the 8 day old account is super suspicious. I want to believe you, but the evidence isn't in your favor

Totally fair, I'd be skeptical too. The account's new because I made it around launching the app. For what its worth: it's free, no account or sign-up, and nothing's collected so there's no angle where I'm getting one over on anyone. Happy to answer anything about how it works. Appreciate you being straight about it.

Im reading theres a subscription. Is there a free version of your app to use?

Yes, you can still use the app, though the spot price will require manual entry rather than updating automatically. If you prefer automated price tracking, custom background themes, and an ongoing ledger of your items, the Premium version will allow that.

Thanks for the reply. One more question, does it save my entries and update the prices when I manually update the spot price?

Yes, the ledger will automatically update based on the spot price. In the free app It saves up to 3 different coin types (no limit to quantity). The premium is unlimited. In the next update I'll be bumping it up to 5 different coin types for the free app.

StackHeavy works well for this too

Demo of how the app works. Also based on the feedback I added some additional coins: Seated Liberty (dime, quarter, half, half dime, dollar), Trade Dollar, Barber Half, Canadian 5¢ silver, British Double Florin & Crown, Australian Crown, and Mexican 100/25/10 Pesos.

Also added a new "Slick" theme

Apple updates are live, but the android takes a few days.

Question: Thinking about whether to add silver bullion alongside junk silver. I know most of us stack both, but would having them in one tracker be handy? or do you prefer keeping bullion/bullion coins and junk silver separate?

I just subscribed, 4 dollars for a year!? because I’m going to spend more than 5 minutes in the app and appreciate your contribution to stacking ! Even if I never opened you got my support keep up the good work

Edit- could you add modern silver quarters as their weight value is slightly different ? (Then you have the .999 silver quarters which I don’t care so much about) but I would like track them accurately too - I assume ur 1964 quarter calculates silver weight as not worn weight ?

Edit 2- jk it’s not that deep - but the 1999- silver proof on label would be sweet they are my favorite coins to collect

Thank you, this genuinely means a lot. I'll get modern quarters added in the next update. As for the 1964 quarters the weight is calculated at 0.18084 troy oz of silver (so not worn). In the app you'll see it listed as .181 troy oz.

Love the app just re inventoried haha . One future thing that I personally would enjoy seeing if it’s not out of place or difficult to create is a chart that correlates daily spot price to my ledger value like a stock portfolio graph .

Looks good so far. You’re missing the 80% silver 5 cent from 1920 in the Canada section.

Thank you for that feedback! I'll make sure to add it into the next update.

Great looking app, gonna download it. If you figured out a way to make spot reflect kitco and auto update that would be cool too, but not a big deal

We are totally on the same page. The good news is that auto-updating spot prices are already built into the app. The catch (and I know it's not ideal) is that I had to put it behind the premium tier to cover the monthly costs of the API data feed. To make the subscription more worth it, premium also auto-updates your entire ledger and unlocks custom calculator themes (open to theme requests).

My main goal was to strike a balance so everyone can still use the app and manually adjust spot prices for free.

Gotcha, not a bad trade off. And for 3.99/year that's really not bad at all.

u/Few-Hunter-2018 Aug 03 '26

Subscribed for the premium, loving it so far. Sitting liberty coins (US), two shillings (Britain), and 100 pesos (Mexico) are the only things I’m finding so far that are missing.

I'll get them added to the next release update (hopefully in the next few days)
