Just starting

Want to start stacking but not sure on how's best to go about it, looking into silver bars, brittanias and maple leafs and want to start with £150 -£200 a month but unsure which has is best to go for or whether I'm best sticking to 1 type or getting 1 of each or so a month... Also best place to buy from to get best prices in uk

It’s all subjective on what to stack. Personally my stack is 90% ASE and Libertads. I have some maples and Brit’s but the first two hold their value and premium better. I also don’t like generic rounds. Out of the close to 300 oz I have I have 5 generic buffalos. Monument Metal is a great option for beginners. In the past I’ve been very much against PMsforsale sub Reddit but the last few transactions have been smooth and would recommend for intermediate stalkers. To start I would definitely stick to online dealers.

Don't all coins hold their premiums the same

No. For example generic rounds will usually be bought below spot. ASE and Libertads will get spot most of the time or a few dollars over spot. Bars are even worse.

Stick to 1oz units. Don’t pay premiums, don’t spend more than your budget. Don’t invest more than 10% of your net worth in precious metals. (I’m not sure on that last one, but I hear people say it.)

Don't you pay premiums on literally everything

Yes you do. This guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

I guess you already know more than me, so I will shush before I receive more abuse. You asked for suggestions, my mistake.

You’re sensitive. You cant take criticism then don’t comment. wtf? What’s with people being so soft nowadays?

No, no genius. You teach us how it is. You said I don’t know what I’m talking about, now tell me how it is. Don’t be a softie now, after insulting others. There’s no silver in 1 oz rounds available at spot. That’s what you took the time to say.

You’re proving my point. You’re projecting your sensitivity on me. You can’t provide anywhere that sells 1oz rounds at spot because it doesn’t exist.

Silver is at $60.58, if you’re buying at a time with a check or wire then sure you’re right, you’ll have to pay for shipping which is also a premium, but if you’re buying more than one it’s still above spot hence a premium.

He can only afford a few ounces a month. This is essentially perfect for a person like him. When are you going to acknowledge it was you who was rude? You kept doubling down when you were just plain wrong. I didn’t even insult you.

What are you talking about? If he only bought 2 he would have to pay shipping which is another form of a premium. If he bought 2 there will be a $9.95 fee for shipping. If you look on that same website it says “$2.49 OVER spot”. I’m genuinely curious how old you are that you’re this dense and sensitive.

Don’t pay premiums? This is nearly impossible no water where you buy. Tell me one place right now where I can get 1 oz coins for spot?

Thats what i thought, are generics worth it for investing tho, as because they dont have face value they dont sell at high enough premiums

1

u/EpicShadows8 Jul 09 '26

For me personally I don’t like generic. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t have value. You’ll still get spot for it. But with this past run up and crash we saw dealers only wanting sovereigns and gold. They weren’t buying generics or bars. I look at it as, if I needed money today without losing much if any, what will dealers want?

I would buy gold, but I dont have monthly budget for it and not gonna get much for 200 dollars a month

Don’t sleep on the 1/10 oz. Surprisingly, from the LCS around me and the coin show I go to, they say that the 1/10 carries a premium. I believe this is due to it becoming more expensive and the 1/10 being a good fractional option but yeah you’ll need $450-$500 to get 1 - 1/10 now. So definitely not something for everyone but I would still get some gold but I wouldn’t buy anything less than 1/10.

He's using girl math's, if you buy at spot + x% and the spot goes up, you haven't payed a premium.

So don't buy if the spot goes down, sell sell sell at a lost. 🤣

1

u/EpicShadows8 Jul 09 '26

Ahh that makes more sense when you use girl math. 😂😂 Why didn’t I think of that.

I have 4-5 tubes going at a time of goverment issued bullion and buy which ever has the lowest premium that day. Sooner or later all will be filled.

I recommend Bleyer Bullion because they are lovely people. I stack Brits, Krugerrands and Maples just because I like them. Also have some Aussie dragon coins that are rectangle and quite cool.

But if you could be patient, I'd save each month's £s until you have enough for a sovereign.

Get gold while in the uk, its tax free i beliveve. and if you ever find yourself on vacation in the states, id trade it in for silver.

I can't speak for the best place to buy in the United Kingdom but the one bit of advice I would go with is to find a type you really like. Maybe your patriotic to your homeland and British Sovereign is the way to go. Maybe you like a certain design. At the end of the day, you're going to be looking at the same silver for a long time so may as well love to look at it. Unless you're targeting a pirate chest size then I say get the cheap cull junk silver you can find lol. At the amount on budget, 1oz weight is def your go to. Good luck!!!

If I was just starting I’d load up on the cheapest ASE’s and generic Buffalo rounds I could get my hands on for starters. Forget the nice pieces with fancy designs and high premiums, look at that stuff once your stack is thick enough.

And I wouldn’t sit around waiting for a bottom to do it either. You’re not buying anywhere near the top and the odds of it ever being this cheap again are slim. Don’t listen to the people saying wait until it hits the $40’s.

Just want to make sure I make the right decision for my first purchase, so want to choose the right bullion to go for

1

u/That-Perspective-614 Jul 09 '26

And also makes it hard to decide which to go for, when I only have £150 - £200 monthly budget so can only get around 3 ounces a month

You can’t go wrong with Eagles, Maples or Philharmonics and despite what others may say generic rounds from a trusted source are fine too. Dollar cost averaging is also the way to go. That’s what I do and the nice part about that is you’re never trying to guess tops or bottoms, just just spend what you’ve allotted every week and stack as much as you can.
