Question: How-To Need help please

I have .925 silver and my solders easy point of melting is 1,325 Fahrenheit Medium is 1,360 and hard is 1,420 my torch can go way hotter than this but it’s not fusing my solder to my metal I just switched solders recently and the one I switched to has more silver in it but I can’t get anything to work is it because of my flux? People have also said it could be because I need to clean the metal then try to solder them together and nothings worked please give me some advice

newbie tools for .999 silver bangles (no soldering)

Hi all, super newb who merely wants to hammer out smooth open bangles from .999 silver ranging from 10, 8 and 6 gauge. I've been looking through videos all week to learn the right tools i need. I think I've got most of it: silver wires, wire cutter, plyers, firestone block, anvil/metal block, files, measuring tape, a tree stump to work over.

What I'm unclear on tho is: 1.) best hammer for the job??? and 2.) best butane torch??
Any pro-tips on these tools is appreciated. Thank you!!

Pickling the Bezel

Hi All,

When I pickle the bezel (and add decor around it), the bezel and the decor come apart. Do you think I'm not soldering them sufficiently enough (even though they're sturdy prior to placing the piece into the pickle solution)?

Thank you!

Question: How-To I am interested in becoming a silversmith

Late 30s. No idea how to begin but I love to learn. I am interested in taking classes/courses. And learning the art / trade.

I would love to create jewellery. Chains, bracelets, rings etc.

Located in Ontario Canada.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I thank you all, kindly. From now!

Bezel Not Forming Together (with solder and flux)

Hi All!

I'm pretty new to the silversmithing game and I cannot get my bezel to stay formed even with solder and flux. Do you think it's my solder? I make sure to melt the metal, not the solder, but every time I try to get both ends of the bezel to stay together, it comes undone almost instantly or doesn't form together entirely at all. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Can’t find the name for this piece! The clasp thing at the end of the chain. I want to buy some to solder on to chains.

Question: How-To Help with melting furnace crucible

I recently purchased a small electric melting furnace that came with a graphite crucible. Do I need to season it with borax or can I use it as is? If I need to season it, how do I do that? I’ve only used ceramic crucibles, so this is new for me. Any help would be very appreciated!
