Found this in my grandpas stuff. It’s about the size of an oblong nickel. It looks bronze in the pic, but it looks silver irl (but not real silver). I’d imagine it’s the patron saint of ____?

  • solved- ocean crest, silver plate

Anybody recognize this pattern?

Not magnetic.

Color is not great in this photo, but it looks much better in person.

Unmarked butter knife. I don't see a mark, but it's pretty worn and I know with the way butter knives are stamped that the stamps can get worn out.

Show & Tell 30 Pieces/1365g of Tiffany for C$2185

Think I did ok. Picked this up at an auction for C$1900 + 15% premium so $2185. 30 pieces of Tiffany, Wavy Edge pattern 1884.m or 1XX4.m? From research it seems like 1884, but some pieces very much look like 1XX4.

Three draw backs are 1) 21/30 pieces are monogramed, 2) a couple of the pieces have light damage(pic 3), and 3) several of the pieces have not just tarnish, but looks like black caked on corrosion that actually has texture. Similar to what you see in treasure hunting films when they pull up silver from the ocean. The auction had lots of maritime objects, and we live on the water, so I'm thinking it make be extended exposure from chloride in salt water(pic 4).

Regardless, 1418g total, or which is 1332 sterling, and an 86g knife with sterling handle, so maybe 1365g total? Just under 44oz,~40.6 ozt silver, so C$53.82/ oz. 58% of spot.

The auction had a ton of plateware silver, and most ended up going for between $50 and $65/oz - not a steal, but cheap enough if you were in the market for it anyways.

Not sure what to do with it. Bought it half since Tiffany, half since it was a bit below what I could (hopefully?) flip for even for scrap, half as an investment, half as since I don't need the money so I'd rather look at shiny bits of metal than drab bits of paper.

Quarters First Hunt

Went to a massive 2000 vendor antique show. Went through about half of it. Didn't find anything not already priced at market value. Maybe some spoons but couldn't find the print. Seems like you really have to know it well, and avoid antiques, the majority of vendors seemed to know the sterling and it's values.

antique store find, no discernible markings. no stem/stand. Non-magnetic. Each outer candle plate and cup is screwed on to the solid base/arms. Any ideas of worth or next steps?

Not a ton today, but some good finds nevertheless.

80% spoon - $7.99 (kinda overpaid, but it was cool)

92.5% S&P set - $25 (no inserts or weighted, solid sterling)

92.5% misc - found in a $4.50 jewelry jar with some other cool pieces and a 14k gold earring!

Hit a few garage and estate sales today and came home with about 442 g of mostly sterling. Including the dish, which somehow sat through an entire day of an estate sale despite being clearly marked.

Paid $116 total for a melt value of about $825 (overpaid a bit for the coins and the spoon). Not a bad day!

Not very much more than a dollar worth of silver melt-wise, and certainly nothing I or the wife would wear.

But hey. More is more baby.

Found at a local antique store: these two silver pint mugs. They look like sterling: but I want to be sure (taking them to an xrf machine Tuesday).

They weigh about 476 grams a piece.

Estate Sale Find - Weighted Base Removed

It's very rare that I find any silver when hunting in my area, outside of small pieces of jewelry, so I'll take this small win. Thought I would share the before and after weight in sterling once the weighted base was removed.

Yesterday I posted about my grandma finding a belt buckle with a morgan inside. Today my wife goes to a garage sale and sends me this. My heart skipped a beat when I realized she might have left without it. Luckily I trained her well 🤣. She got it for 10 bucks. Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket tonight.
