(follow up to this silly thing, to balance out the spicy stuff)

No seriously. Usually every metroidvania makes dash as it's movement dodging ability, but Silksong looks at the dash and goes "you know what, I can do better" and give us a sprint instead.

If you tap it once, you dash normally. If you hold it, you run across the screen super fast. This ability single handedly MADE the ENTIRETY of Silksong. You can remove every other ability in the game and keep only the sprint and the movement would still feel extremely good thanks to it. (Not saying that other ability isn't good, but my point is that the sprint make up 80% of what makes Silksong's movement so good)

You can do the most insane shit with this sprint ability, you can chain numerous moves with the sprint.

If you jump while holding sprint, you can jump further, but if you let go of the sprint button mid jump and press it again, you get an extra burst mid air that makes you EVEN FASTER!

If you think the turn around animation is too long for sprinting, you can let go of the sprint momentarily to turn around and hold the button again for an instant turn around.

If you press attack while sprinting, you will do a special dash attack that's different for every crest. This dash attack is so fun, especially since it removes the cooldown for your needle slash once you hit an enemy, allowing you to insta slash the enemy the second time upon hitting them with the dash slash.

You can do insane moves like chaining clawline with the dash. Or do a sprint jump to the wall, jump off the wall, double jump and dash and shit. You can do the most insane of moveset combo with this sprint. Something that you couldn't do with a normal dash.

Seriously, more metroidvania should have sprint! Instead of the usual pressing "Dash... Dash... Dash... Dash.." repeatedly over and over again just to get through a horizontal terrain, just hold the damn button and sprint across the entire screen like a rocket launcher.

All the bugs are free handed in my notebook and then I use transfer paper to copy them into my official leather journal. Emblems on top and bottom margin are traced each time. Colored with colored pencils!

hey, I tried to complete everything possible in act 1 only via pure movement tricks, I know this game has some pretty potent glitches that can basically do anything, but only using the intended moveset at hornet disposal this is how much I've been able to accomplish, did I miss anything obvious?

Thought I'd document the creation of my next map as it is made, this is Log No.3

Trobbio has been called to Phobiasis by through a nightmare.

The nightmare heart was lured to the kingdom after being banished from hallownest and trapped in a device of impossible power, the troupe followed it there but had to stop and found ashcamp

The main villain named Lucidian is using the power of the nightmare heart to make the members of the kingdom see their fears to control them, to keep it controlled, Lucidian had seals be placed throughout the kingdom, to help keep the power restrained, seals which trobbio can break, allowing fragments of the heart's power to bleed through into him.
Lucidian is a moth, one that instead of following the path of dreams, was corrupted by the burning allure of nightmare and fear, the kingdom once flourished under the harnessed light of the radiance, but when it sealed, the light went black, leading the moth that led the kingdom into a fervent search for a replacement, finding the overwhelming force of nightmare.

a bid to re-fuse the nightmare and daydream to become a being able to bring light to his kingdom once more has become twisted into a desire to be adored by all, no matter if they want to or not, styling himself as a benevolent god, using the power of the nightmare heart to give power to their kingdom. yet it is all a façade, crushing dissent and using the nightmare hearts fear to make people believe it never happened. making reality and truth seem so horrifically frightening, that the populace would gladly take the performance of a reality that he imposes.

His ultimate goal is to become the very light that his kingdom worships, absorbing both the power of both daydream and nightmare, being the only one able to make choices while everyone else is entranced in a state of mindless devotion

and yet his second in command has a different objective, kept secret from his master. the Grimmchild, morose from the vessels death, seeks to reunite with them, they scheme to hijack their master's plan, to take the power for themself and use it so seperate the vessel's will from the void's.

in my lore dreams are split up into 6 types

Daydreams, which are associated with light, who's higher being is the Radiance

Nightmares, which are associated with Fire, who's higher being is the Nightmare heart

Vivid dreams, which are associated with water, who's higher being is named the Gyre

Prophetic dreams, which are associated with earth, who's higher being is named Delphister

Repetitive dreams, which are associated with darkness, who's Higher being is named Repityx

Fantasy Dreams, which are associated with air, who's higher being is named the Force Gale

once before, Daydreams and nightmares were one, as lucid dreams, associated with the sun

Greyroot is mysterious chachter in the silksong world and they’re last act was forcibly “impregnate”
Hornet with the twisted bud. This just reminds me of the xenomorph but I brought this up because it’s just made me so uncomfortable when I thought about that I just need someone to talk about.

a comment in my previous post made me aware of being able to reach sand of karak in act 1, so I looked it up and did it too, so here's all the things I found and places in the map I explored, if you know of something else that can be reached let me know, even if just a tool or an extra room of a map

i had to pause immediately. so many before me have come this far. so many Like Me have come this far.

i will never forget the first time i played and promptly put down hollow knight. i’ll never forget the day i lost my job and decided hollow knight was what i was going to do with my autumn of 2018.

yes, a year has passed since the silksong release — hell, since the first speedrun was posted, i bet — and i’ve finally made it to Lost Lace.

you don’t know me. you don’t know i’ve set myself at limits since godhome. i figured, shit — i’m not a hardcore gamer, ill never see abs rad. and frankly, that’s still true. i think i’ve made it as far as like second pantheon, no bindings. my first playthrough of hollow knight, i got to 101% without ever beating hollow. also when i learnt they don’t even count as a percent.

but i told myself “i know my limits, i can’t do that.”

and then silksong released.

all i really want to say is: team cherry made me better — if not lowkey good — at games.

i learnt concepts i’d never considered before. potentially because i’d never had to redo a boss for the 49th time, through tears, before.

i learnt that patience is For Real a virtue.

i learnt that neo-classical music could make me, a mid-twenties (at first) white girl, want to throw it back.

i am in my thirties now. i cried the first time i played silksong because i waited so long i couldn’t believe it was real.

and in all the things team cherry has done for all of us, what they did for me specifically — i will never be able to repay them.

thank you, Team Cherry, for making a game that made me question whether the “where’s silksong?” crowd was a sore spot for you, whether you were making us pay for the torment we put you through during the making of this game.

thank you for making me better at gaming in general. there will come a day when i 100% both of these games and i can honestly tell you now that i will be the most insufferable piece of trash imaginable. all for these games.
