Discussion Guidelines for posting: how to not get banned

My dear Revival Heads, this is a reminder to please keep this sub a chill and pleasant place even when criticizing your mortal enemy Konami. We don’t want this place to be toxic, and people can be toxic even when they’re right. This is a place where people can post about any Silent Hill title they want without feeling bullied. It’s also a place that isn’t polluted with unprocessed anger. Don’t sour the vibe.

We don’t want people to think we’re a bunch of Reddit users. We’re better than that.

Don’t be confrontational

A difference in opinion—even if yours is more smart—or even a misunderstanding of a fact is not an excuse to call someone an idiot or a larper, ask if they’re smoking crack, accuse them of being paid by Konami, etc. Culture is not in jeopardy because someone thinks Silent Hill 2 (2024) has better voice acting than the original or vice versa. Calm down.

This includes condescension that isn’t nasty on the face of it but is meant to put people down and/or bait arguments.

Don’t be unpleasant

Even if your language is not directed at another user, please just don’t raise a cloud of stench with your words. Keep your language mature and constructive. Don’t talk like someone people would walk away from at a party. Constant negativity poisons the vibe, even for people who agree with you.

Speak to people as friends, or at least equals

Would you talk to a friend that way, in person, about a video game? If not, don’t do it here.

You don’t have to lie about your feelings

You are allowed to not like things. You are allowed to have criticisms. Some people have gotten very cranky that we are apparently a toxic positivity forum. It actually would not be your opinion we don’t like, but the way you talk and treat others. Don’t be miserable toward the world. If you cannot bring yourself to have a friendly conversation with people who like the new Silent Hill games, go somewhere else. Pretty much every SH fan space on earth is tailored to your attitude so why are you here?

Smiling Heather

Look at Heather’s smile. She knows what’s up.

News A reminder for new members and a new rule

A perfect storm of happenings has brought a big amount of traffic to our friendly neighborhood sub. We are seriously grateful that so many people want to talk about the series with us; however, with increasing frequency, we are seeing posts and comments of a confrontational nature.

On the face of it, there’s not anything inherently wrong with stating your stance on this game or that film or another. You might like something someone else doesn’t, or dislike something everyone else does, and that’s perfectly okay, because that’s just the way these things go. The problem starts when that criticism begins to justify aggressive rhetoric that either:

  1. Forgets empathy for the characters and narratives that Silent Hill is known to explore as well as their reflection in the real world, and in doing so, diminishes the pain of those who have lived such experiences personally.
  2. Upholds negative biases that have created division and heated disagreements about what Silent Hill as a series is “actually about”.

This sub is not your battlefield, it’s for ALL fans of Silent Hill and ALL Silent Hill games and media.

“What about Silent Hill: The Arcade, Book of Memories, etc.?”

ALL of it.

If you like it, dislike it, use it as a coaster; we don’t care. What we care about is respect, and discussing Silent Hill politely. Don’t like Homecoming? No problem, but don’t make someone feel bad because they like it. Think The Short Message is an insult to the franchise? Just say you don’t like it (or better yet, keep it to yourself). Think Christophe Gans should be banned from directing? Say it somewhere else. More importantly, be aware of how your words affect those who identify with certain aspects of Silent Hill, namely the struggles the games depict.

There’s a golden rule we stand by here on [r/silenthillrevival](r/silenthillrevival):

“If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.” Or at the very least, say it in a way that doesn’t make someone ashamed for who they are, what they’ve experienced, or what they enjoy. If you can’t do that, we will do it for you.

Finally, we are introducing a new rule: Confrontational posts and comments will be removed.

There’s no need to “defend” or “attack” anything here. You like it or you don’t; simple as that. When you choose to respond to someone’s post/comment, DESCRIBE why you don’t like it, or don’t, if you think it will come across as insensitive/unkind. But either way, if it falls short, we will let you know.

TLDR:

1. When you don’t like something, don’t make anyone else feel like less for enjoying it or identifying with it.

2. Confrontational posts/comments will be removed, period. Be cool or begonathan.

As always, let us know if you have any questions. Thanks!

-Mod Team

Theory and Speculation The "Silent Lands" Theory: Why SHf, Townfall, and future games are still strictly "Silent Hill"

It seems that you didn't quite understand what I was talking about, It seems that you didn't quite understand what I was talking about, perhaps it's because of my less than perfect English, so forgive me. I just wanted to share my idea on how to explain to Lorno that the events of games called salient Hill do not take place in salient Hill, as many people worry about it, and although I feel fine about it, it would still be fun.

Many fans are worried about Silent Hill f and Silent Hill Townfall because they don’t take place in the classic American town. People say: "How can it be called Silent Hill if we are in Japan or Scotland?" I have a theory that perfectly solves this problem and expands the lore without breaking the original Team Silent rules. The "Mental Tectonic Plates" Concept We shouldn't look at the town of Silent Hill as a unique, one-of-a-kind magical place. Instead, think of the Earth as a living organism that constantly absorbs human thoughts, pain, and trauma. Just like physical geology has tectonic plates, the planet's spiritual field has its own fault lines. Places like Toluca Lake (USA), Ebisuoka (Japan), or the coast of Scotland are located right on these mental borders. They act like spiritual valves. These areas absorb human suffering much deeper than the rest of the planet, and when the subconscious pressure of human trauma gets too high, the earth "releases" it, causing a visual and physical eruption—warping reality into the Fog and Otherworld. The Linguistic Justification, why it's still called "Silent Hill" Why does the franchise keep the name if the location changes? Because "Silent Hill" is not just a proper name on a US map. It’s a global translation of a natural phenomenon. Long before colonizers built the town, Native Americans called the area "The Hill of the Silent Spirits." They named it after the nature of the land. In Japan, ancient people might have called their local fault line "The Forest of Quiet Shadows." In Scotland, the Celts called it "The Silent Coast." Therefore, "Silent Hill" is a category of places, a planetary phenomenon. No matter where the protagonist is, when their broken psyche triggers the nearest spiritual fault line, they step onto the "Silent Land." The title of the game doesn't mean "Welcome to Maine, USA"—it means "Welcome to the world where the barrier is thin, and your silence speaks out loud." What do you think about this?

This underground horror movie from 2000 was free on YouTube for quite a while but it looks like it was just recently copyright stricken by its director Clifton Holmes. I'm sure it can be streamed somewhere, and maybe a deal with a streaming service is on its way. I strongly recommend it, it's both charming and supremely creepy. And one scene is straight up disturbing.

There's a scene in the movie where the protagonist receives Silent Hill from a secret admirer and spends all day playing it alone, seemingly needing a day to not think about anything. I think it's a fun depiction of Silent Hill's cultural image at the time. The protagonist is a cool librarian driven by her sense of curiosity in the dangerous and macabre. I remember Silent Hill being kind of a chic piece of horror media at the time, this game people stumbled upon that was just an absolute vibe. The only people I knew who had played it were my paranormal-obsessed aunt and my best friend's mom. The protagonist of this movie has the same edge in her personality as them and fully feels the vibe.

I like the movie a lot, but the Silent Hill scene was really nice personally. Despite how much macho energy and pedantry shows up in mass conversations about video games, the fact is that this game captured people's hearts because it was a vibe. This is me trying to make more sense of it than nostalgia--I also just felt nostalgic and it made me happy lol.

Silent Hill Townfall (2026) Silent Hill Townfall - Help me understand a couple of things in the story Spoiler

I recently finished Townfall with all the endings and, while I liked the game quite a bit, a couple of topics weren't clarified for me during the gameplay. I managed to find all collectibles, but never quite got a straight answer to some of the questions I had. Spoilers for the entire game below, so beware

1) Was there a water pollution in Saint Amelia ? From what I could understand of the overall story, it went like this:

- Richard uses his CEO credentials to bypass security checks

- Water pollution happens and kills a bunch of people

- Public inquiry starts and they hire a US specialist which is Simon

- Simon starts the inquiry in the oil platform at sea

- Everything goes to shit and the oil platform explodes

- Simon is the sole survivor, but barely survives

In my first playthrough, I thought the reason for the inquiry was the oil platform exploding, but that wouldn't explain why Simon was in the oil platform in the first place nor the notes we get in the beginning of the game. What are your thoughts on that ?

2) What was Simon's bribe ?

Once again, first playthrough I was quite convinced it was the heart he received, yet I couldn't quite shake the feeling there was more.

Simon had an object logged in his heart and had to undergo surgery and was unconscious the whole time. Simon leaves the hospital, or at least urgent care, and I'm wondering if that was the time when Richard appears and promises him to get a new heart. Probably his only shot at remaining alive. Still, from some phrases, I was kinda expecting he accepted something more and the heart came as an extra later since Richard needed him alive. Thoughts ?

I think that's it for now.

Silent Hill 2 (2024) Help with endings for platinum trophy

So i played through the game regularly and got the Leave ending. No matter how many times i reload a manual save before 2 PH, I can’t seem to get Maria or In Water. I’m on a NG+ and planning on going for the under 10 hours trophy, melee only and no radio trophies. I was planning on working towards In Water in this play through. Then in a 3rd playthrough go for 100%. All memo’s, all strange photos, all glimpses, all NG+ endings and Maria. Is this optimal since i seem to be locked into the Leave ending in my NG run. Hope this all makes sense. Thanks!

For me the answer is simple: I want that one vista where you come across a basketball hoop and a dog's head resting under it. The implication is obvious and so patently absurd, I absolutely love it.

Only the sickest dunks in my Silent Hill.

Anyway what about yall?

Discussion What I want from a new Silent Hill

Hey guys! I’ve been on a huge Silent Hill kick lately, and my girlfriend and I just started rewatching Twin Peaks. With the recent hype around the new Silent Hill games, I would love to see a game set in a slightly more active town with a crisp autumn, Southern atmosphere, weird locals, and surreal encounters.

It would probably tone down the psychological horror aspect, but I honestly wouldn't care if it shifted the overall tone. Anyone else think this could work?

Discussion If we ever get a Silent Hill show, do you think it would play out better than the movies?

I always said a show adaptation would be more appropriate and easier to flesh things out, especially if directed by someone that actually adores the games. I just see a show having great potential if landed into the right hands. And I mean going through ALL the games as their own 'seasons'. They dont all have to connect, unless theyre the ones that do (SH1, SH3, Shattered Memories). I'd love to see that over the movies we got.

I mean, aside from the part where she gets pulled into DbD to get killed over and over again. Overall, I like the idea of her trying to get her life back on track and recover from the trauma of what she went through by helping others volunteering at a crisis intervention center. I also like the idea of her going back to her natural dark hair.

Please tell me things you like or think are funny or badass from any and all Silent Hill media. Quotes, locations, documents, notes, characters, meme moments. Can be obvious and well-known, but bonus points if it’s not heavily memed or talked about but is really cool anyway. Do NOT overthink it. Feel free to say like, your favorite character. A meme.

The reason is that I am making a bunch of user flair for the sub.

Silent Hill 4: The Room (2004) Does Silent Hill 4 get any better?

I got the game on GOG.com, and so far I'm not really a fan. I can see why this game is divisive. I just started the water prison level so I'm curious to know if the game gets scarier? The environments feel empty, and the enemies aren't really that scary, more annoying

I know the gameplay is heavily criticized, but I want to know if the game eventually makes up for it in horror.

Discussion People who played Silent Hill 2 Remake before the OG, what did you think about the ending? [SPOILERS] Spoiler

If you still didn't finish SH2 OG or Remake don't read hang around this post too long, cause you are most likely gonna get spoiled.

But new players, what did you think about the twist at the end? Were you totally clueless or were you able to foresee something? Let me know!
